Hinsons Drive-In

We just ate at Hinson's. Reviews seemed amazing, we are locals to Matthews and enjoy supporting local restaurants, however, we will never be coming back again. It took 60 mins to get food to the table. There was a total of 15 people in the restaurant. My husband's family owns restaurants, that is CRAZY long. We ordered burgers, chicken tenders and fries. There is no reason for it to take that long. Mind you we had a 3 year old with us so pure torture waiting. The people next to us ordered hot dogs and it took them 60 mins to get their food...for hot dogs seriously?Our server was FANTASTIC and brought us a box of toys to entertain our toddler. Food was just okay. I love a hole in the wall restaurant (this was the most hole in the wall I've been to) but if none of your money is going into the facility then the food needs to be fantastic not mediocre and take an hour to make. The onion rings were great but everything else was just okay. Fries tasted like they were from the grocery store. My bbq sandwich I didn't even know it had slaw in it until the end. The meat itself was good but could have been more flavorful IMO. I don't think I would go back. I can get the same quality at south 21 and faster.

AWESOME BURGERS! Billy loves his customers and loves cooking the perfect diner burger and Ellie is as attentive a server as you'll ever find. Get the crinkle fries and round off a phenomenal meal. Ice cold beer and live music on Friday nights. You'll be glad you stopped in to a legendary burger joint. Be sure to ask about their history. It's really interesting.

I love a good burger and Hinson's consistently delivers on just that. The burgers are cooked on a small flat top by the kindest man who truly appreciates his customers. I have had the Garden Burger, a hotdog, and the Hinson Burger and everything has always been prepared perfectly. It is a hidden gem, that may not be much to look at, but the food is on point!

Don't miss out on this piece of history. Before Charlotte was a massive city, this place became an important place to meet and eat. Beer and wine available, reasonable prices and an experience that will transport you back to pre-2000.

I really wanted to love this place and give it more than three stars. The reviews led me to think I just found a great new spot to add to the list. I had the special chicken sandwich of the day and my friend got a burger all the way. The sandwiches were surprisingly small, not much bigger than a Bojangles biscuit. They were tasty but again painfully small. We split $16.00 sample basket of 3 sides and that probably wasn't worth the price tag even at half the price. The beers were ice cold and our wait person was fantastic but walking out the door at over $44 for food and a few beers at a dive type bar is tough.

I got the garden burger, onion rings, and a hot dog "all the way." Absolutely delicious! I will definitely be back. The prices are great, and the food is even better. A lot of places cut quality in favor of low prices, but the same cannot be said here. Low prices and good quality food. 10/10!

This is a true dive bar/hole in the wall. A place you can sit at the bar, get to know a few locals, drink some cheap beer and smash a burger made on a flat top in front of you.
