The historic railroad club is here!
One of the enthusiast who was talking to my husband while I was checking out the 1950's replica of Hendersonville.
This little kid could not stop smiling and did not want to be put down. I can't blame him!
The rear of the building.
Lights and passengers whizzing by!
Headed for the tunnel!
I love the little ledges that allow you to step up and get a closer look.
Don't forget to push the button and watch her go!

The Historic Hendersonville Depot is where the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club showcases their model trains. Western North Carolina is the background behind the trains. There are trains to see both inside and outside the depot and the volunteers will answer questions. You can tell that they enjoy showing these wonderful trains. The detail in the displays is very impressive. The Farmers' Market is nearby so you can visit both if near downtown Hendersonville.

This place is amazing and the volunteers are so passionate. The to-scale model of the train going through western NC is beautiful and mesmerizing. We went as entertainment for our toddler but my husband and I were just as impressed. We'll definitely be back. Admission is free but please consider a donation!

THE HISTORIC HENDERSONVILLE RAILROAD DEPOT!This little station is bright yellow and white so there is no missing it. It was built in 1902 after the original building proved too small to handle the traffic. Several additions were added to the station over time as traffic continued to increase. However, passenger service was discontinued in 1968. The station sat quietly in disrepair until 1992 when the Apple Valley Railroad Club was granted permission to use the depot as a meeting place. The station, (now owned by the city) was then restored to its original state and is now being used as a museum. Today the railroad depot is an awesome little stop if you enjoy trains. Your visit will be hosted by the enthusiastic members of the club who are full of information regarding the history of the railroad. The model located inside of the station is a representation of the train's route through various towns, (including Hendersonville) as it appeared in the 1950's when service was at its peak. There are several tracks running between two rooms and it is evident that a tremendous amount of time and attention was dedicated to preparing the models and the detailed displays. One member told us that it actually took five years to set up the display and models. There is even a display representing the Island of Sodor, (Thomas the Tank Engine), and yes Sir Topham Hat is on scene! This little depot is a necessary stop on your visit to Hendersonville regardless of age or gender. Big kids and little kids will enjoy watching the trains go in and out of the tunnels. Don't forget to exit the rear door to see the larger model. This one wasn't as fun because the attendant was a bit too distracted to give us a show. No problem, the inside models were better! Don't forget to leave a donation so that we can keep this gem going!
