Havana Carolina Cafe

Very easy to access from 85, it's right off the interstate. I've been a fan of this place for years! We stopped quickly this morning for some Cuban coffee and a snack. The coffee here is legit strong! I love it. The people are always so nice. My wife snagged a few empanada things for the road and dang they were tasty! Thanks HCC!

Stopped by this cafe to try Cuban food in NC. I've lived in Miami so my frame of reference is pretty good. I love authentic cuban food. I ordered the roasted pork with plantains. I'm used to the pork being marinated - cuban food is known for it's colors of citrus and vinegar like tastes on the meat, contrasted by the rich flavor of the beans mixed in with the rice. The meat was a little tough and I could not taste any marinade on it at all. When I have to add the spices and marinade it defeats the purpose of eating out. The rice and beans were as expected and the plantains were good as well but still a little too ripe so they were not caramelized as well as they should have been. I also tried a ham croquette which was a little soggy. Although the first go around wasn't what I expected I would go back but next time I will pay more and try the restaurant to see if they get it right. It's not Miami but it will do.

My first visit to this family-owned Cuban restaurant was enjoyable all the way around. I tried several new-to-me Cuban appetizers - which were delicious - but I'll have to look at the paper menu they let me have, to remember what I bought! Portions were good and prices were reasonable. I was with two friends, one from Cuba, and she made some recommendations for me. The small restaurant is popular with the older generation from Cuba as well as the American-born Cubans. I'm glad we were introduced to it. Owners take time to talk with you, give you ideas for what you may like. There is a well-stocked cooler with Cuban beverages and desserts. There's outside tables to enjoy on the warm days, tables and stools at bar, inside. They also serve a variety of coffees, including dark, rich espresso.

Havana Carolina Cafe in Kannapolis NC is a must try!!! The food was Marvelous, tasty and filling. The cafe is clean and has that Cuban feel to it. The staff is very helpful and always smiling. They will take care of you. This is definitely going to be a spot I return to again & again.
