My husband and I attended the Symphony on Friday - Mozart - after dining at Sobys. What an AMAZING night and a fantastic performance!

Were able to enjoy them in the Peace Center for a performance of a Hector Berlioz symphony, they were amazing. The performance was fantastic and I would strongly recommend enjoying a night with them.

Holiday at Peace program presented by the GSO... amazing special spectacular good show!As always, Maestro Tchivzhel and his orchestra were at the peak of their game! Such a varied and entertaining program featuring the talents of guest vocalists Gary Mauer and Beth Southard (husband and wife) who have extensive credentials including Broadway as members of the cast of Phantom of the Opera. She starred in the role of Christine. Local students of the International Ballet Academy also performed several times during the evening.Santa made an appearance... moving throughout the auditorium visiting with children and parents.Maestro Tchivzhel spent the first part of the performance sporting a smoky cranberry jacket that had a subtle muted shimmer to it as he animatedly conducted the orchestra. BUT AFTER the intermission... WELL! The BRIGHT RED iridescent wet-look jacket sparkled and twinkled with his every move... and every bounce of his hair. For Maestro Tchivzhel conducting is a joyous aerobic activity... for the audience it is an energizing delight to watch him conduct the GSO.Mere words are almost inadequate to recognize and commend the talent and professional expertise that comes together for these GSO performances. Thank you all for blessing the upstate with your talents!

This orchestra has excellent musicians. Unfortunately, its conductor is a prima donna and a Russian immigrant. Most of the music they play is incredibly dull and aimed at people over 60. The conductor likes everything faster and louder. Not every piece benefits as a result. Fortunately, for him, many of the musicians are very good. The trumpet and trombone section are excellent. The principal flute is very good. The principal oboe is sub-par. When the conductor speaks to the audience, he can't be understood. Ticket prices keep climbing and value decreases. Boredom level increases and this is reflected in the half empty house at most concerts. (When they do popular stuff like Mozart, ticket sales are better, but those concerts are getting more rare.)
