EJ's Soul Food and Vegan Restaurant

This place was pretty good. The food was a 8/10 for me. I had oxtails over rice which were very meaty, yams and collards. My family ordered the cabbage and they didn't really enjoy it. The service was slow, half of our table was done eating before the rest of the table got their food. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for these things. I would return.

Service and food were great and the atmosphere is nice too. I had the BBQ jackfruit sandwich and my boyfriend had the ox tail. It is one of his favorite foods and said it was fantastic. Apparently, it is roasted so the meat is much more plump compared to stewing. We also tried the salmon bites and took some homemade red velvet cake home. Highly recommend and so happy EJ's is in Gastonia!

The food was slammin, wings nice & fresh! The beef tips were so tender & the mashed potatoes were so creamy & yummy! Service was fast for a Saturday night. It's very cute inside. A couple TVs to watch the game.

The restaurant was not very busy when we arrived for a late lunch, around 3:15 PM on a Saturday. I had already decided on the salmon patties with yams (sweet potatoes) and collards. The salmon patties were more like large balls vs. patties. They were okay, a bit dry. The Yams (sweet potatoes, my thing) were good, but there was more juice than potatoes. They definitely had potential. The collards needed seasoning. I ordered sweet potato pie to go and ate it later that evening. They were gracious enough to give us a small sample. As expected, Jackfruit was not for me, but my lunchmate enjoyed it and ordered a sandwich to go.I understand Sunday's are the busiest day of the week for EJ's. The menu was shown but we couldn't order from it. It includes chicken and waffles. We were told that the place is packed with every seat taken. Since this is a ways from my location, I doubt I can make it down there on a Sunday morning early enough to get a seat.

Food here is amazing! I've been a few times and yet to be disappointed. My family and I visited after church yesterday party of 10. They handled our table with ease and food came out in a timely manner. I've also came for drinks and live entertainment on a Friday evening and was pleased with music and crowd. Only thing that was a miss is the location of the stage doesn't allow for a good view of performers, depending upon where your sat.

The service was slow. The food was just ok and the prices were high for the portion sizes. Ambiance was nice.

My jeep club and I had the pleasure of dining here after a hike at Crowders this weekend! Ms. Dara the owner is super sweet! We met, sat and ate with her mom too!Hospitality was beautiful and the food was SOOO good!! This will be our spot after hikes for sure :)The place is very spacious and clean! This restaurant is definitely tops for Soul-food restaurants! My family and church family had such a great time. We got to meet the owner and she was so kind and so nice. Our waiter was really cool and gave us everything we needed as well! Literally, ALL the food was so good! If there's anything you would like to try, I would definitely say the pork chops and the fried sweet potato pie! I can't express enough how good the fried sweet potato pie was! All the food was so tasty and flavorful but not overbearing like some restaurants! The ambiance was also very family friendly as well! I will drive from Charlotte any-day to visit again! I definitely look forward to going back soon, for sure!

The food was extremely flavorful and very thoughtfully crafted. There was enough options as a vegan to feel very included in the menu for choices. The service was great, our drinks always stayed full, she checked in with us throughout our meal. The ambience in and out of the restaurant is perfect, there is plenty of parking, and a great outdoors area for the kids to play. We were passing through town and found this gem, we will be back next time we are in town. I would even go out of my way to get back here.

This is the kind of soul food that makes you want to take a nap when you are done. I wish I would have took a picture of my plate before I ate my food, however this is the finished results lol. When I tell you it was not just good.....it was good good. Also the service was great and they were on it. The fam and I will definitely be back! We ate outside and enjoyed the weather with outside seating and some smooth music.
