This was my first visit to Shelby (for the Main Street Conference) and was impressed with the revitalization and especially the Earl Scruggs Center. The staff was very accommodating and friendly and the exhibits were informational and interesting. I like the upstairs exhibits that included promotional products (seat cushions, sewing kits and pennants). The restoration was lovingly completed of this historic building.

If you are in Shelby and want to see a truly wonderful piece of Americana history, SEE THIS MUSEUM! They have done a wonderful job of not just documenting the life of Earl Scruggs, but the cute little town of Shelby.

First of all, we can't say enough about our delightful docent, Clyde, who is a native to the area and shared interesting facts and stories, answered our questions, stayed nearby without hovering, filled us in on using various displays, and made our all around experience great. Thank you also to Rachel, who was the docent we met when we returned from lunch who continued our "education"! The museum ties together the history of Cleveland County and the southern culture with the bluegrass/ country music that it gave birth to. It's definitely a comprehensive experience with hands on displays and a room upstairs filled with instruments to try out yourself. Everything was neat and clean and in working order. We highly recommend a visit!

Stopped after seeing the sign while driving from Charlotte to Asheville. As a struggling banjo player, we had to stop. It was an awesome museum with some great interactive exhibits, really well done.
