I had the great pleasure to dine at Doan's during a recent visit to Charlotte. Our friends dine her often and told me it was amazing, however as I have styled myself as a pho connoisseur I was skeptical. Luckily my skepticism was solidly, completely, entirely unfounded. The menu is extensive and has an entire vegetarian section which includes dishes such as spicy lemongrass tofu (delicious) and vegetable rice noodle soup (VERY YES). We tried both, and I was truly flabbergasted by the soup. The broth is incredibly complex and flavorful, and the addition of cauliflower to the typical veggies was a welcome surprise. The serving size of the soup is generous; those of us who ordered it were able to finish our bowls and were very satisfied. The inside is cozy, the servers are efficient and patient, and the pricing is quite reasonable for the quality and quantity. Doan's - if you're ever looking to open up a second location, I hear Louisville is a good place to be.

After many years of hearing about Doan's and reading my friends' Yelp reviews, I finally made it. Sadly, the quality has declined over the years, and I'm not sure I'll take another chance. I called to place a pick-up order for vegetarian Spring Rolls and Tofu Pad Thai. The order was ready pretty quickly after I arrived and paid. I was disheartened to learn that there was a 10% service charge for takeout that wasn't mentioned via phone, but I thought if the food was as good as I'd heard, it may be worth it.The spring rolls were delicious. They were spot-on Vietnamese-style rolls, super flavorful and crispy. They made me anticipate how good the entree was going to be. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was terrible. I know what you're thinking: this is a Vietnamese restaurant. Why did you order a Thai dish? 1) The reviews mentioned it was good, and 2) I have had some of the best Pad Thai of my life at a Vietnamese restaurant. Let me tell you where they went wrong: Pad Thai is generally a balanced Tamarind or Soy based sauce with al dente rice noodles, protein, egg and peanuts. That's it. This Pad Thai was chocked with bell peppers and broccoli over the traditional inclusions. I thought, "Oh, maybe I misread the menu, and this was only because I'd ordered tofu." NOPE. All their Pad Thai is served this way. The tamarind sauce was also overly sweet, and the noodles were soggy. These additions and poor execution ruined the flavor profile and made this dish impossible to eat, much less enjoy. I ordered a second lunch from Showmars via delivery that sat for 30 minutes and was better executed. I can't say I'll be back, especially since better Vietnamese food is nearby.

Food: 3/10Service: 2/10Ambiance: Subjective Food was subpar. Pho was bland with too much noodle and not enough broth. You may think more food means better review but what's crucial with Viet food is ratio. Service was odd to say the least. 10% Tip is added for takeout order. Doesn't make sense. Seems like it's just about the money and not about quality of food. Can't say much about ambience since that subjective. Neither good nor bad, just really dark.

Perfect for a hearty meal. The broth was rich and the beef was tender. Great value for money

Probably some of the best pho in charlotte. Love their spring rolls and the other dishes on their menu. Definitely in my top 3. Interior is dark and intimate but always clean. Very welcoming family.

Doan's Vietnamese Cuisine is a great little Vietnamese restaurant in south Charlotte. We are quite fortunate to have four very good Vietnamese restaurants on South Boulevard. They are Doan's, Vietnam Grille, Saigon Palace and Crispy Bahn Mi. All of them are great! In the old days, I had to trek out to Central Avenue or Shamrock Drive to get excellent Vietnamese food. Now it's in my backyard!Doan's does a very good representation of Vietnamese cuisine. Their summer rolls are always fresh. Their spring rolls are always crunchy and not greasy. The vermicelli bowls (Bun) are served warm with lots of fresh herbs. The Pho is always great as well. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. If you want to experience Vietnamese cuisine then you won't go wrong visiting here.

If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food/pho, this is the place for you! I have been searching for a place like this in Charlotte for a long time! Their broth is phenomenal - both depth and flavor. The meat is surprisingly tender and delicious. Portion sizes are good. Service is usually quick, with the exception of my last visit. I have been disappointed by many places in Charlotte for pho, but this place does it right. Best pho in Charlotte! Highly recommend!

We stumbled upon Doan's accidentally. It's tucked away in a strip mall - but trust me you don't want to miss this one!The place has plenty of seating and is very clean. It smelled great and we were not disappointed in the pho. I'm used to larger sizes at most Vietnamese restaurants, however they didn't skimp on the meat, noodles or veggies and we left full. The broth was divine and we can't wait to be back.

Has a 90s Asian resto vibe inside. The summer rolls are fresh and go so well with the peanut sauce. I really enjoyed the Grilled House Special. The sweet grilled pork really complimented the rice, egg, and pickled vegies. If you're Filipino like me, you know what I'm about. Pho had a light flavorful broth with good cuts of meat. Delicious!Let's continue supporting small local businesses instead of putting them down just because of their ambiance.

LOOK AT THE OTHER ONE STAR REVIEWS. THE OWNER IS A RACIST! YELP KEEPS REMOVING MY REVIEW! IM GOING TO KEEP REPOSTING UNTIL I DIE. There is a graciousness, a welcoming warming feeling walking into almost every single Vietnamese restaurant that I have been to since discovering Pho! This place is the VERY FIRST DISGUSTING NASTY HORRIBLE ENERGY THAT I HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN GOING OUT ANY PLACE TO EAT! I'm a very respectfully New Yorker! Born and raised. I love Jean George and got engaged at the Mercer Kitchen but use to frequent Juniors downtown Brooklyn in college... I say this to say... I know many of good places to eat and have been to so many different places. Nougatine is my favorite at the bottom of trump plaza! My favorite Pho place in NYC is Mekong in HARLEM! Baby.... this was something UNREAL! She better be happy I didn't sl@p that nasty frown off her face... ooooogly @ss b1tch! We walk in, we sit down. The woman that brought us the menus had an attitude as we were walking to the table... she hands us the menu and I said can I have extra large beef pho with extra beef and extra noodles! You know what the woman said? No! Yes that's right she said no, that's too much! No you can't do that. I looked at her like she was crazy! Are you serious? I said no problem. I'll go else where! Got up and left. That woman is a loser. Never been to a place and ask for extra which I obviously can pay for, and got told NO! I'm glad she told me no because I then went to Pho Van on South BLVD and had the best and hottest bowl of Pho I have ever had. So it worked out. I'm happy the lady was a b1tch...
