Curry Gate

So I've heard a lot of buzz around Curry Gate over the years. Many have stated it is among the best Indian restaurants in the Charlotte area. I still need to go into one of their brick and mortar locations, but for the time being I decided to try their food stall in the Monarch Market to get a glimpse of what they have to offer. Since this location is only a food stall it stands to reason that their menu is a bit more limited. That being said they have a great system for ordering. You choose your protein between lamb chicken, and paneer, then you choose your sauce. They offer traditional curry, the always popular masala, and if you're a little sensitive to spices you can get the mild butter sauce as well. In addition they also offer a palak which is a spinach based cream sauce, and korma which is described as a coconut flavored creamy sauce. There are a lot of different variations you can try, and when they serve it to you they have the rice and the curry separate, so you can choose how to mix them up. The portions are generous and the food is delicious. I will say that I think they tone the spices down a bit, probably based on the Uptown market. I am eager to try one of their brick and mortar locations as I've heard they are much more authentic, but for a quick taste of India this is a solid place to stop by.

Amazing Indian food inside monarch market! I tried the tikka masala which comes with a lot of chicken and rice. The chicken was super tender and the sauce was flavorful. I do wish it was spicier though. I also had the garlic naan, which was nice and flavorful. Overall, service was great and I loved the food!

Stopped by for a quick takeaway dinner & was completely impressed. Cooked to order, this was piping hot and freshly madeChoice was paneer curry. TONS of paneer in a flavorful tomato based sauce. Not spicy but this evening I was not looking for heat & their combination of spices hit the spotPaired with a mountain of rice - included in the price, this was enough for 2 meals & probably could have even been 3 easy meals ( but I was extra hungry ). Stuffed myself silly & still had half left over......cannot wait to dig in again!

Delicious Indian food. Love the naan and paneer. The mango lassi is a must for spring/summer as it's so refreshing and tasty! Everything I tried was fantastic! Highly recommend

It doesn't taste like traditional Indian. It's been augmented for an Uptown pallet. Wasn't my favorite but edible. The Samosas (Veg) were huge. I also went mild and should have went spicy. I was expecting a creamier sauce. It tasted oily.

Recently visited curry gate inside monarch market for lunch. All I can say is it's very americanized. Portion, price, quality and taste all miss. Very disappointed with this place. My friend (whom is also Indian) laughed at the quality and taste of this food.

We got take out at the CurryGate 2. I haven't had this type of food in many years but I am so excited my first take out meal of this variety was from here! Everything was so delicious and very quick and ready for us to take home in insulated bags to keep the fresh meals hot all the way home. We had the Vindalo and the Korma with rice and garlic naan. The price was a little expensive so we might treat ourselves to this less often for our budget but for what we had it was a very flavorful meal. If there was an opportunity area, I could see potential to expand the dessert offerings.

Curry Gate is a Charlotte favorite. They have opened two new locations, the latest one is inside of Monarch Market Uptown. This is a fun market with lots of food stalls and a bar in the center and upstairs! Of course, this is a great place to meet up because you have so many options, but why would you choose anything else besides spicy, comforting Curry Gate? I was worried that everything might be already prepared and it wouldn't be spicy since it is a small food stall, but it is still made to order and you can order your items as spicy as you like. We tried the momos, channa masala, chicken korma and butter naan. Everything we ate was delicious and I can't wait to return.

I still love to visit this curry gate when working in uptown but I think the food quality is much better at their original location near camp north end. The serving size is smaller and my order has been wrong a few times.

Ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken tasted like rubber cubes. Not even hint smell of the smokeyness. Nan was not even close to a traditional nan. Rice is too dry. Expensive too. Only positive side is service is good.
