Boat launches onto Lake Wylie and lots of parking for trailers, this campground is quite "back to nature". There is a building with a restroom but I didn't spot a playground or any other "active" features. There are good spots for fishing too.Yes, there is actually an island and they have several docks. Plenty of trails to walk and you can bring your leashed dog.Great park, free entry. Lots of nature.[Review 16875 overall - 3204 in North Carolina - 388 of 2022.]

This island is adjacent to the McDowell Nature Preserve on Lake Wylie, and is very wooded. There are paved and dirt walking trails throughout with platforms and overlooks along the way. There are six large campsites with fire rings and grills, but there were other camping areas as well. We had enough people for this weekend of camping (about 200) that we rented the entire island. OMG! It was such a nice venue. There is a pavilion with an enclosed area for preparing food with kitchen, sinks, etc., along with many (I didn't count!) picnic tables on the cement slab under the covered area for serving dinner and for gatherings. There are also four actual large bathrooms which I wasn't expecting. We rented addtnl port-o-potties but we really didn't need them. Better safe than sorry! We had a DJ setup under the shelter and it became a stage with spectator area at night for entertainment. There is a nice sand volleyball court next to the pavilion if the island and lake don't offer enough entertainment and exercise. Don't miss out on the floating dock that goes out into the lake. We brought floats and hung out there during the day. There are two large parking areas at the head of the island, but plan to walk alot and carry your stuff a good distance. Beautiful spot for a picnic or family gathering. If it's like SC parks, you can probably get a yearly pass. It would be worth it if you live in the area. Only 10 minutes away from Fort Mill/Rock Hill too.

Nice little island on Lake Wylie. You can walk their trails, take a stroll with the dog, have a picnic or do some fishing. I've never seen a snake here, but plenty of turtles... had to mention this due to the name. The area gets busy in the Summertime and there are many boaters on the lake coming and going from the boat ramps. If you are looking for something a little more quieter, come at off-peak times or find a different spot.

Love this place, great place to fish, hike, take the dogs out, I'm a fan. The name still scares me. I always watch where I step when I'm here simply because of the name.

Beautiful walk...if you can actually enter the trail. We've driven to Copperhead Island twice to walk, only to find that it was rented for a private event both times, so we had to leave and find a different place to walk. If it's closed, that should be posted on the front page of the website. (We shouldn't have to search the website and "pretend to rent it" to find out if we can go for a walk)

I'm sure that it's a beautiful park. I would actually love to see it. However, they allow the entire island to be rented out privately and the rest of the public is not allowed past the parking lot. I was told this happens every single weekend. So I guess my family will never be able to enjoy it unless we rent the whole island. I read that there is a covered picnic table area. Maybe they should consider renting out just the covered picnic table area instead.

Nice little place...don't leave anything in your car. We walked for 30 min. And came back to our car window smashed in, purse stolen. The credit cards were used within 20 min. - just take it all with you or don't bring it at all.
