I rode past this place a few weeks ago & noticed it was new. I asked how long they had been open & I was told 3weeks.I'm kinda sad the meal I had wasn't that amazing because this restaurant is super convenient. Right off of the i85 Statesville Rd. Exit beside the infamous Pilot truckers rest stop. I walked in today expecting to see a large open floor restaurant & it didn't even meet half of my expectations. Everything seemed dim, a little old, & the ceiling's are very low. The tables & chairs & furniture look outdated. Maybe they kept the furniture from the last owners. However I don't see myself ever "dining in".So, I ordered the Oxtail plate & the only "sides" it comes with is red beans & rice along with cabbage. Any Caribbean or Jamaican restaurant I've ever been to & ordered Oxtails, the red beans & rice was mandatory & you get to pick two sides.....Well here at Cocoa's your 1 side is going to be red beans with rice & your other side will be cabbage & that's what your going to eat darn it! So no bother on mentioning any sides, just say, "Oxtail plate" & 2ndly there going to charge you $20.04 for the dinner plate. This includes a a bread roll. This does not include anything to drink. I mean just to go on ahead and & put it out there, I feel ripped off!...The cabbage that I didn't ask for was decent, a little too sweet though. The oxtails were too wet & covered in brown sauce, the beans and rice were average. I also forgot to mention, the food is kept warm in aluminum catering pans off to the side of the register. I honestly only eat oxtails from these types of restaurants so I cannot foresee myself going back to try anything else. It was 4:15pm when I visited, so I assume I was charged dinner prices. Don't take my word for it though, EnTeR aT yOuR oWn RiSk!

The WORST!Run don't walk in the other direction. They burned oxtails... like blacked and everything. Also if you think people can't taste the BBQ sauce you're crazy. The rice and peas are under cooked and gummy. Whoever cooked this should be barred from the kitchen.

This location used to be on Statesville Avenue, now they have moved into a bigger space. So far what I've tasted, the food is less than average. I wish that they would step up their game! This has the potential to be a nice restaurant since they have a bigger, cleaner space. Butif they can't get the food tasting better, they will be closed again.

Uuummm....the only thing worth eating there is the jerk pork....the jerk chicken didn't have any jerk seasonings on it at all , I even asked for more sauce and it didn't help ....collard greens were from the can , it taste like it anyway....the ox tails were really tough, they didn't simmer them at all or not long enough, there were some young people working there taking orders and they didn't have any type of customer service skills at all, they should just throw the whole restaurant away!!!Not real authentic Jamaican food ......we wanted it to taste good so bad bc it's so close to my house but we were definitely let down.

Amazing food! Great music! Nice people they even let us try samples before ordering as we were indecisive. There wasn't music seating only 2 booths and 2 tables and a few high stools. Place could've been cleaner but overall, pretty good.

I was excited to go here because I love Jamaican food. The chicken taste NOTHING like Jamaican it taste like rubber. The collard greens were watered down. It was extremely terrible and I have never experienced food like this and it's a disgrace. There were no jerk season on it at all just oregano and etc. Do not waste your time but there is a great Jamaican place called Antony's you should try. Also Zoewee's kitchen have amazing African food but do not come here.

Restaurant was exceptionally quiet on a Friday night. That was kind of a sign. Looked like they were using a grill in the parking lot to cook the jerk. Should also have been a sign. Almost didn't look open but found a door and went in anyway. The place is dark, cafeteria style. Food appeared to have been sitting a while. Decided to try the food since we were there and we haven't found a Caribbean spot in Charlotte yet. Picked the oxtails, mac and cheese and plantains. Everything was okay. Oxtails had good flavor; and the mac and cheese looked like the freshest side. Plantains were in the back and we got 3 pieces. The young staff persons were friendly.Cost was more than expected ($15 for oxtail dinner) and wasn't posted anywhere. The food and staff deserve 3 stars, but everything else (ambience, cleanliness, appearance, portions, etc.) deserves 1, hence the overall 2 star review. This location is new. We'll give them a bit before trying again.
