Citrus the Diner

Normally, my reviews of Citrus The Diner in Denver, NC are for the incredible food and great service at this wonderful restaurant. Ahhh, but you can get take out, too. And not just off of their menu!My wife was at Citrus several weeks ago and inquired if they could make a birthday cake for my upcoming birthday....I was not present for this conversation. The owner of Citrus, a gentleman named Blake, said he could make a cake. It turns out that he is a master pastry chef and cakes are a specialty. It was agreed that I would like a chocolate cake and Blake made his version of a chocolate birthday cake. We could not have been more impressed by its look and the taste was one of the all-time best (and I'm 73). We were both wishing that we had known about Blake's cakes when we were married.....this was sooo much better than our wedding cake!If you look at the attached photo, you'll see that there were black cherries on top of the cake. In addition, there are homemade, dark chocolate truffles along the top edge. This was the chocolate cake you dream about receiving for a birthday, anniversary, or any other special occasion.Citrus The Diner is a great restaurant that just happens to have a phenominal pastry chef as the owner. You cannot walk in and order a cake for tomorrow....they need advance notice. And they do not have a ring binder with photos of cakes to choose from. But if you ask them to make you a cake, it will be special! We highly recommend this option for the next birthday event you need to plan for!

We came here for brunch on a Sunday. Our was busy but we were say fairly quickly. We ordered the kids meal first and that came out quickly. Our lunch/ brunch was tardy, fresh and hot! The Dirty waffles and fried chicken was flavorful and crunchy. The Buffalo chicken wrap was delicious and the guacamole was a nice twist. Great service. Our server followed up a few times and do did the host/ owner. Parking available in the Plaza.

Traveling through Denver NC today and Yelp lead us to Citrus. It was a wonderful experience. Our server was attentive but we were also checked on by a few servers. The menu is extensive with really unique options. Our meals were delicious. The restaurant has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and is decorated with cute citrus murals and colors. Loved our experience.

Great food. Kind staff. Fun space. My whole family including two little guys enjoyed everything we ordered.

Delicious food. Food was fresh and service was great. Not really suitable for larger groups. We were a party of 8 and we had to split up.

I ordered the pineapple upside down pancakes. By description, these pancakes should have been a home run, but they really missed the mark. The pancakes were pretty gummy and had no flavor at all. The batter was over mixed and they do not use buttermilk which cuts through gluten strands and gives an airy texture to pancakes. They tasted like they come from a pancake mix and not from scratch. I also ordered a biscuit with some gravy. I definitely preferred the biscuit and gravy over the pancakes. Their gravy had rosemary in it, which was a nice added flavor. Freshly squeezed orange juice was a nice addition to breakfast. It's a cute diner and the staff was friendly. I'd return again to try more of the menu, but I'd steer clear of the pancakes.

Banana bread latte and lemon blueberry French toast were fantastic!!! Husband liked his short stack with strawberries and bananas.

Found the location in Google and my friends that live in the area said they hadn't been but heard the food was great. We got there and waited about 30 mins. It was worth the wait! I had Marian's Favorite omelet and the hubby had Uncle John's Biscuit & Gravy Platter. I was not expecting the biscuit to be so big and fluffy... definitely homemade. The sausage gravy was excellent as well. I did taste a little sweet something qith the biscuit and gravy which was a twist, but still very good my omelet looked like all egg, which I like, versus when milk gets added. We also got Mimosas. They bring the mixer part in the glass with a small bottle of Prosecco. Our bill would have been much cheaper had we not had 2 each... yum! Our waitress was having her first day back after being out and she was phenomenal! I venture to say we'll be back to try a few other things.

I've been to this restaurant several times, and every single visit has been outstanding. The service is always warm and welcoming, and the food is consistently hot, fresh, and delicious. This time was no exception.We indulged in a variety of dishes, starting with beignets served with rich hot chocolate dipping sauce. Each bite was heavenly. The stuffed French toast was perfectly decadent, and the country-fried steak biscuit was hearty and satisfying. We also tried the bao buns, which were a delightful surprise, light, flavorful, and perfectly balanced.The cozy dining area, with its charming decorations, added to the experience. I look forward to my next visit.

We decided to try Citrus for the first time for Sunday breakfast. It is almost an hour from home. Worth the drive! This restaurant is charming and lovingly decorated. Every detail is wonderful. The service was friendly, attentive, and we never wanted for anything because they checked on us frequently. Every dish and side was flavorful and perfectly cooked. We both had omelettes and they were lovely, and packed with ingredients. The biscuits were tall, light and fluffy. We brought home two cinnamon rolls for later. The inside was intimate and super cute. Restrooms were scrupulously clean with clever and uplifting artwork on the walls. Patio was super inviting with tables, umbrellas and planters. Most of all, the staff was happy and enjoyed the guests and each other. We will definitely be back. Next time we hope to bring our dog and eat outside.
