Upon a friend's request, we decided to try Capitaine Bar & Grill for dinner last week. Upon entry, we were greeted and taken to an open booth. The place was kind of empty at 7 PM. We were then greeted by Shawna and a waitress in training. We ordered the fries and Alhadji Spicy Suya with shrimp. It was $14 for 1 skewer of shrimp and veggies with a unique and flavorful spicy sauce. It wasn't worth the prices but it was delicious. The fries were just that, fries with seasoning on top. We ordered drinks as well. I ordered the Manhattan and my hubby and friend ordered the Lemon Drop Martini. My Manhattan was on point. It definitely had a kick to it which I thoroughly enjoyed. The hubby and friend really enjoyed their Lemon Drop martini as well.Next, we ordered our entrees. I had the lamb T-bone with curry potatoes and jollof rice. I know, I know, two starches. I typically order a green vegetable but they done have many options for green vegetables. I've always heard jollof rice is the best rice on the planet, so I had to try it. My t-bone was cooked well done and was so flavorful. The jollof rice was phenomenal and the curry potatoes were delicious too. Our friend ordered the sautéed mixed greens and jerk wings. She said both items were very good.My hunny ordered the Capitaine burger with more fries. He too enjoyed his meal. Finally, I had a sweet tooth. Since the food was good, I asked Shawna for a suggestion on dessert. She recommended the famous sweet potato maple cheesecake. I went t with her suggestion, and boy oh boy, that was kneading of the best cheesecakes I have ever had. It was soooooo tasty. I wanted more but didn't want to overdue it.Overall ratings1. Alhadji Spicy Suya with shrimp - 4/5 (very good nut not worth the price)2. Manhattan - 5/53. Lemon Drop Martini 5/54 Fries - 4/55. T-bone with curry potatoes and jollof rice (wasn't spicy, fyi) - 4/56. Burger and fries - 4/57. Wings and sautéed greens 5/58. Sweet potato maple cheesecake - 5/59. Ambiance - 5/510. Customer service (Shawna was personable and gave some great recommendations. She did an excellent job and so did the waitress in training) - 5/5Overall rating - 4.6/5 I will definitely be back with more friends and family. Overall, I highly recommend this lounge to those looking for some flavorful food.P.S. they offer hookahs too. By the time we left the restaurant was more crowded. You can park on the street for free as well.

If You Don't Go You Won't Know! FYI: GRATUITY IS AUTOMATICALLY ADDED.Saw the recent IG shoutouts and thought we would give Capitaine a visit. Stopped in on a Thursday evening at 8pm for a late bite to eat. Upon entering the vibe is a cozy and intimate space. The seating area to the left of entrance seems a bit awkward but is functional. There are a few high top tables in the center and four large booth tables to accommodate a party of four or five easily. The bar offers additional seating. The crowd was moderate, not overwhelming but the only two waitresses(one was also the bartender)seemed a bit stretched out. We weren't greeted upon entering and attempted to seat ourselves but all vacant tables had dirty plates left from previous patrons. The manager finally cleaned a table. When ordering we asked about drinks shown on IG and if they had a drink menu. They do not but we were told they can pretty much make whatever you want. We also noticed hookah pipes sitting near the bar as well as another customer smoking hookah when we walked in. Had to ask the waitress what the price was and flavors. There was no menu or listing for this either. While waiting on food we noticed a few customers complained about their food orders and checks being wrong. I saw a few people have to inquire about their orders being slow. We ordered food at approximately 8:10pm and received entrees 8:54pm. Entrees we ordered were the Capitaine Platter (grilled shrimp, lobster tail, and a side of plantain) Also ordered the Mango Habanero wings with a side of fries. Drinks were Sunrise Mimosa Margarita and Blue Lemon Drop, they left a lot to be desired. Lobster was over cooked, shrimp were ok. Had to ask for drawn butter for lobster which seemed foreign to them and it was obvious from lack of seasoning and refrigerator taste. Wings were the smallest I've seen. Not sure where they found that chicken and there was not a lick of heat for the habanero. Best thing ordered were the plantains.

Worst shrimp tacos ever. No seasoning and tiny. The restaurant looks nicely decorated but it's overpriced and over hyped.

I went to this restaurant on Saturday around 6:00. The waitress was polite and attentive. The mojito drink was delicious, I added strawberry to mine. The food was mediocre. I ordered the tropical platter the presentation was cute however the steak was overcooked, tough and fatty. They remade the food but it wasn't any better. My sister ordered a basic chicken sandwich, which was undercooked. The manager apologized for the inconvenience and accommodated us. My boyfriend ordered the jerk chicken wings, they were fresh, by far the best thing out of everything we ordered. The establishment was cute, clean, not too many tables, good music. They offer hookah, which I don't particularly like for food establishments but the ventilation is good. Overall good place to hear music, get hookah and drink. They have patio space which could be upgraded to match the aesthetic inside.

I saw a very appealing IG post on this restaurant. I went on April 11th around 6:30p, we were the first people there. There was a very sweet bartender who was also hosting and serving. She took our drink orders which took a while to come and mine was pretty, but tasted like a bottle of lime juice with a sugar rim. They also did not have a drink menu which was surprising to other tables as well. The wings were tiny but good, they didn't taste of mango habanero though. The Jollof rice and curry potatoes were delicious. The Alhadji Spicy Suya was a piece of thin steak with no distinct flavor, but was tender. After we arrived more people flooded in and the kitchen was backed up, my friend got his wings but I did not get my food for another 30 minutes. The kitchen needs more help. Luckily more servers came in to relieve our poor waitress. The potential is there. The music was amazing and the decor is nice.

Don't eat at this restaurant because you will be waiting 2 + hours even with reservations and the waitresses will act like it's your fault and have an attitude because you been waiting forever.

Ciara's post from a few days ago was our EXACT experience and yes the GRATUITY IS ADDED no matter what size your party is.My husband, daughter and I are from out of town and wanted to find a spot with good food and a good vibe. We saw this place on IG and decided to walk in Friday, April 12. I read the reviews, but it's a new restaurant and of course there will be growing pains. We pull up. The parking is minimal maybe 8 spaces, but thankfully a car was leaving from the small lot, so we parked easily. Most of the parking is on the street. We arrived around 9:15ish for dinner. We were able to get seats at the bar after a reasonable wait of maybe 15 minutes. It had a great energy and vibe. Music was good, crowd was mature. The bartenders were wonderful ladies, personable, made great drinks and earned every penny they made! Everything on the menu was available, so we were off to a good start. We put in our orders around 9:45. We notice that it appears that there is one chef, no soux chefs (maybe one who also operated as a busboy). Around 10:15 we notice a table of gentleman that were already seated in their booth when we first arrived getting their food. We then look to another table of ladies that were seated before us and they had drinks but no food. Around 10:25, the bartender tells us there is one more ticket and then our food will be cooked next. While we were waiting for our food, the owner came and sat with friends next to us at the bar. The head bartender was in constant contact with him and he didn't seem to have any care or urgency about the poor operations. He seemed very nice, but many nice people go out of business. I saw an online order come get picked up after waiting for some time. Umm this business has no capacity for online orders because there was ONE chef making every meal order as they came in with little to no assistance.Around 10:40 (almost an hour later) our food comes. DO NOT ORDER THE SUYA PLATTER WITH THE EXPECTATION OF AN ACTUAL PLATTER. The platter was a 5-6, 1-2 inch length slabs of delicious tasting thin steaks, overcooked tasty shrimp kabob, and a few grilled peppers. By the way, the grilled peppers were the "mixed vegetables". My daughter chose the jollof rice as her side. It was cold and uncooked. We sent it back and didn't bother wanting another one ( since it would have taken Lord knows how long). I enjoyed my burger with the plaintains. My husband enjoyed his tacos (2 come in an order). The food tasted good. I don't fault the chef. He was doing the best he could, but he clearly needs help.We complained about the wait and got comped round of drinks and took 10% off the receipt for the uncooked food. Again the owner seemed very nice, but for a new establishment he should have been jumping in to do whatever as needed to make it move more smoothly and instead he was busy socializing. I won't go back there again. The food tasted good but the overall value was lacking in addition to the unreasonable wait.I hope the owner is reading these comments. Your chef needs help! Make the adjustments sooner than later so there can be a later.

I really had no expectations, just wanted to give this place a try since it was new and then I would be on my way!! Oh-em-gee...the decor; the service; the drinks and most importantly to me, the food!!! I almost stop going out to eat because I was tired of getting salty, average, over-priced food! Well, let me tell you, Capataine is one of the best restaurants that I've visited in a long time! The food was seasoned to perfection and grilled just right. I literally couldn't stop licking the chicken bone! The Jollof rice melted in your mouth with succulent vegetables and unique flavors. The plantains had an exterior crust but was moist on the inside! Even the ice cubes are an honorable mention because they were the right amount of crush and made the cucumber and lemon taste so fresh and crisp In my water! Bree was our server and she took really good care of us recommending the right choices for our palate. The decor was upscale and says a lot about the owner, Eugene...well traveled with excellent taste! He's from Cameroon and I swear he must've bought every ingredient and every recipe from his homeland to Captaine! Can't wait for Keith Lee to drop in for a visit to this hidden gem in the Northside of Charlotte. It's gone knock his socks off! They have a hookah bar and a nice selection of alcohol! I pray for the continued success of Eugene, his wonderful staff and his new restaurant! "Honaeyyyy"!!
