"My husband and I had such a great first visit at Calle Sol! There have been many restaurants in this location (The Penguin, NC Red, and a few others), and we are hoping Calle Sol is here to stay.We started with beverages--a club soda with lime for me, and a No Name Mojito with passion fruit for my husband. The mojito was nicely balanced and not too sweet. We tried their Yuquitas de Queso as an appetizer. The yucca was very crispy, and the cheese inside with nicely melted. The green sauce they served it with was exceptionally good, and we used it with our entrees, too. For our entrees, I had the Vaca Frita, and my husband had the Lechon Asado. Both meats were tender, flavorful, and NOT overly salty (yay!). The rice and beans were perfect sides. Their portions are generous, and we were both able to take some of our meals home. Our server was very friendly and helpful. It got very busy when we were there, so another server jumped in to help remove our plates and bring our check. I like how they work to help each other out when busy!A note about parking--there are only a few spots directly in front of the restaurant, so you'll be lucky to get one of them. There's a public parking lot just down the street on Thomas (across from Dish), and street parking throughout Plaza Midwood. We ended up parking on the street near Supperland, a quick walk to Calle Sol. Just give yourself extra time to find a parking spot if you arrive during busier dining hours. We'll definitely be back!"
"Let's get this out the way. $5 bottomless sangria. Now, before you get too excited, they aren't super strong (expected), but they are delicious. Now, the food to fuel your Sunday Funday.Fish tacos: 5/5Yes, yes, and yes. The reviews led me to the fish tacos and they did not disappoint. The tacos are full of tempura-flashed fish with veggies. I left satisfied.I was told that the steak and eggs were good. The place was pretty empty around 1:30pm. Definitely worth a visit!"

"I love the El Dominicano Burrito at Sabor. It is so nice to have a burrito option that is not 1000 calories just from rice alone. The burrito is filled with cabbage and sautéed onion, as well as chicken (or a different meat option, if preferred) and the Rosada sauce. I prefer to substitute in the spicy Rosada sauce and also add shrimp and avocado to mine. It makes for an especially filling and delicious meal.My husband likes the more classic Three Amigos Burrito, which is another great and filling option for someone looking for the "more traditional Tex-Mex" style burrito. The salsas are also excellent. My favorite to put on my El Dominicano burrito is the pineapple habanero salsa. It is both flavorful and quite spicy. My husband likes the traditional salsa arbol, which is more medium spicy. The guacamole is excellent as well. We prefer to top it with hot sauce for an extra kick. One note: Chips are not included with a regular meal and must be purchased separately. Not a big deal, just good to know."
"I enjoyed my lunch here. Huge building and a ton of room for all size parties. Dining inside and out. I ordered the grilled salmon and blackened mahi tacos. I asked for the salmon rare and it was excellent. I didn't really care for the mahi but the salmon I highly recommend. I also had the Mexican slaw which I thought was very tasty. It was a mayo based and had a great flavor. Salsa was full of corn but other than had an excellent flavor, too. Chips were good- not my fav but definitely good. Server was very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were very clean, too!"
"Stopped in for Taco Tuesday. This was my first time at this location. I really wanted the chili cheese Yucca Fries and decided to get some authenticos tacos also. I went with the Salvador Fries with ground beef instead of chicken and 8 Authenticos chicken tacos (4 beef and 4 shredded chicken). The Yucca fries were good. I should of had queso added to them but the rosado sauce did it thang and was so tasty. I think the Yucca fries are going to be my standard order from now on. I will probably go with chicken or steak next time. It's been awhile since I've been to any Sabor and I was surprised but not totally surprised that the tacos on taco Tuesday have gone up about 50 cents in price. That's to be expected during Covid so I didn't fret they are still just 1.49 each. However the tacos had no taste. My niece even stated the tacos didn't taste like anything. The meat was super bland and even with salsa it wasn't any better. The chicken was better than the beef. In all honesty the beef looked like mystery meat. All in all I wasn't impressed with this location. Don't know if this was just an off day or this is the new standard. I will visit again and update accordingly. "Excellent food and fabulous service! We love their tacos, burritos, taco salads and their delicious guacamole! We ordered food from Uber eats delivery and there was a problem with our order. Sabor made it right and told us they would reissue the food. They're awesome and I love their food."
"Good food, nice people, and island vibes. I like the arroz con gandules. They didn't have that so I tried the mixed rice with black beans. I didn't like it. Next time I will get the baked chicken instead of stew chicken. Some of the food wasn't served as hot as I would've liked. Overall , it was a good experience."
"A thoroughly decent place to grab a couple of tacos. I got an "Americano" style steak taco (add $1.45) which comes on a flour tortilla and unfortunately with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. The steak is good though. Also got two "autentico" style, one al pastor and one shredded chicken. Both were pretty good. Generous portions of filling in both. Also got chips, nothing special The star of the show: the salsa bar. Some absolutely wonderful salsas, the pineapple habanero is literally FIRE! Overall, recommended place for decently priced casual dining. The do a good takeout business too. Enjoy!"
"This place is solid. I really enjoy their food. I take my entire class here at least 1 time a year. Love their tacos and service is great."
"Look for the sign that says Tamales if you blink you will miss it. A small unassuming building is a church on one side and a restaurant on the other. Not really sure what to expect was pleasantly surprised the restaurant was bright and clean. The gals running the place this day were sweet but speak little English. That said keep an open mind and a good attitude and you will get what you want. Two chicken tamales were ordered came in a red sauce instead of verde. Was a bit disappointed until tasting them. Texture was right and had plenty enough filling. Three containers wete placed in front of me. Verde a green salsa, red salsa and crema if needed.Taking my time staryed looking around. There are two menues one written on a board the other over head. Not knowing Spanish was still able to understand some of the menu and the prices. If in the area do give this place a try."
"Everything about this location is spot on. The team was all smiles, creating such a welcoming environment. My food came out hot and fresh--absolutely delicious. Despite the store being very busy, the restrooms were spotless, which says a lot about their attention to detail. The holiday vibes with a lit Christmas tree, great music playing, and the positive energy from the staff made the whole experience top-notch. I can't wait to come back!"
"Staff was very nice and welcoming. The steak taco and nachos were good. Place was surprisingly not busy."

This place is fire! It is hard to find good vaca frita where I am from. It was very flavorful and crispy. The salad was excellent as well. I also had to try some fried yucca since that's my favorite dish. It's a fun place too, we came during lunch and due to the lunch special seems to draw a decent size lunch crowd. We enjoyed the back room with all the string lights. One of Charlotte's true gems!

We visited Verde on a Saturday night. We heard about it via our Offline membership and then all the great Yelp reviews sealed the deal. We grabbed a couple friends and decided to take the one hour road trip to check it out. The night we went was downpouring so the drive was longer than an hour, but it turned out to be well worth it! The hostess was friendly from the moment we walked in the door. We requested a table in the back and she was happy to accommodate us. Thank so the miserable weather on a Saturday night, we had no wait despite our prime dinnertime arrival. Score! Our server was a lovely as could be and made a few menu suggestions that were spot-on! My husband ordered a traditional Mojito and it was the best we had outside of South Florida! Each couple ordered Empanadas for an appetizer. One chicken and one chorizo. I had the chorizo and it was excellent. The meat had a wonderful flavor and the empanada pastry was light and flaky. The green sauce that accompanied the empanadas was creamy and delicious with a nice little kick of spice. Two of us ordered Mar y Tierra and loved it! Everything was seasoned perfectly, the vegetables were cooked perfectly, and the arepa was the best I have ever had! My friend never had an arepa before and now she's hooked. Everything about the arepa from the taste to the texture was amazing! We especially loved the light caramelization on the outside. Oh man, it was good!! Another person in our party ordered Pibil and ate every bite. My husband had fajitas and asked for both the Tamarind chicken and Chimichurri steak, which they happily obliged. I had a taste of both the proteins and they were delicious! All around, it was a perfect dining experience! We will definitely go back to try their brunch w/bottomless sangria!

Sabor is an amazing Charlotte success story. Founded in 2013 in the Elizabeth neighborhood it has now spread not just around the Charlotte area but throughout the state as well. They did this by serving up delicious food inspired by the street vendors found all over Latin America. My first introduction came at this location here in NoDa. After a night out with friends we found ourselves quite famished and decided to repair here since they are open till midnight on the weekends. It was a nice summer evening and it was a lovely time chowing down on nachos and drinking margaritas outside on their small patio which faces the sidewalk and is great for people watching. The restaurant is fast casual and you order your food at the counter, and the prices are very reasonable. I like to pop in and eat inside, but when I lived in the neighborhood it was a great place to put an online order in and then go pick it up. From their tacos, to their yuca fries, to their street corn, they have authentic and delicious flavors. You can also customize your own bowls, burritos, etc. to make things taste how you want. This is a Charlotte gem and I have found them to be of comparable quality at all the locations I've been to, but this location in NoDa will always be my favorite.

Cabo is always a pretty easy, casual option for us. Being right near Ballantyne Backyard is nice so we can grab a bite to eat before or after exploring the attraction going on in BB at the time. I am more of a traditional Mexican food fan but my husband and daughter are so-so and Cabo has more options that satisfy them :) Service is good but not fast so keep that in mind. Here's what we tried:A Little bit of Spice cocktail and the mango jalapeno margarita - both were delicious. Spice one was very light and refreshing and the margarita was on the sweeter side.Queso is always a must here for us.Kids meal was solid - huge portion of quesadillas and fries with a big cup of milk. And crayons with coloring page - always a win. We tried the blackened mahi, steak and fried shrimp tacos - all extremely delicious and filling. We got the plantains and jalapeno cheddar mashers for the sides - OMG. Both so good.Plenty of parking and outside seating - a nice option when in the area!

First time here and I was super impressed. Their food is really good and it has a food truck style of offerings. There's Mexican corn and several other items that aren't found in your typical Mexican restaurant. We had the quesadilla, kids taco and burrito. Each has choice of protein and tofu is an option. Everyone absolutely loved their food and it was very generous portion sizes. There's also a salsa bar. We sampled a few of them and the fan favorite went to the pineapple habanero. It's on the spicy side but it was very good! For a quick bite that's delicious I highly recommend Sabor!!

Great food if that could just get it right. I've ordered take out from this location six or seven times and every time they mess up the order. At first I never checked the order before leaving the store and got home to disappointment. Now I check before leaving and notice the discrepancies before leaving. My wife went by this week to get takeout on her way home and didn't check the order at the store. Of course it was wrong and when she called back she was told "oh, well we are about to close. Can you hurry back to get the rest?" The food is good, overall. I like the fish and pork belly tacos and my son, teenager, devours the tress amigos burrito. I love the chips and salsa.

Oh my goodness! We could smell the amazing food from the parking lot, and then we walked into a very inviting restaurant. The decor is festive, and the music was Spanish and festive. I didn't see any good pictures of menu so I got some for you. Now, I'm a sucker for a soup and apparently they have a special soup they only serve on Sunday. SANCOCHO. This soup is rich, the broth is thick and very flavorful. And the stew is meaty - they said it's made with oxtails, smoked pork and chicken. There was also a piece of corn on the cob, some yucca and plantains. Seriously, this soup is a warm loving hug from Grandma and I will totally make the nearly 2 hours drive to eat this again! My Sister had a Goat stew that was also very good. Hers came with a side of red beans and white rice. Those ted beans were delicious, very well seasoned. There were so many different dishes that sounded amazing. I definitely look forward to eating here again. Oh, yeah, my sister wanted me to tell you that (we sat by a window), that the window sills were dust free, and the floor was not sticky, and the women's bathroom was clean and smelled nice.

Killer salsa bar -- the green monster was especially tasty (as well as the pineapple habanero on the fish taco). That said I wish the spicy ones had more heat to them. Guacamole was great too (and a good portion for the price point). Fish taco was good but not worth five bucks and the shrimp taco was also quite tasty though very small. Overall I would certainly go back for salsas and guacamole and I should also add that my friend loved his burrito. Service was nice enough and the atmosphere of the place was ok -- a bit worn (for example our booth seat was cracked in numerous places) but totally fine.

"Definitely a hidden gem in the Central Ave area as the service was friendly and always came with a smile and the server seemed genuinely excited to find out it was our first time, as she gave multiple recommendations as to what we should try since we had never eaten Salvadoran food before. From the papusas to the house specialties, she was spot on with every suggestion as the food was hot, delicious and full of flavor. So, if you are looking to try something new, I highly recommend you give El Pulgarcito a shot as you won't be disappointed!"
"I enjoy dropping by Sabor for a quick lunch from time to time, especially on Tuesdays! They have unbeatable deals for Taco Tuesday. Their nachos are also really good. The price is good and they give such a big portions size. It's definitely shareable! I wish they would put a little more queso but other than that it's perfection!Good food. Great prices. Quick service. Can't beat that!"
"Whoo hoo I found yet another spot that I will be visiting strictly for empanadas. Now I love me a good empanada.Best of all La Caseta is located in Camp north end food stalls so it's always some sort of entertainment of some sort going on there for the most part . We tried a variety of the food items from the tacos , empanadas, & chicken arepas . The chicken arepa also won me over big time .The dipping sauces adds a little extra spice to any and everything on their menu . You can't come here and not order a Jarritos to wash it all down with . When you go do it for the culture ! I'll definitely be sure to peep my head in here every time I'm in the area ."
"I was very impressed with the empanadas. We had several of the empanadas we tried different ones. The beans were really good seasoned well and to tostones were light and crispy. They give you several sauces to try my favorite is the pineapple one . We also tried 3 desert ones the apple an Nutella a peanut butter my favorite. I would have given them a 5+ but service was not good along with the language barrier. They labeled 1 wrong for us another one we didn't get. It was a little struggle bus trying to the server to understand what we were telling her. I'll be back now I know what to expect:)"
"Everything is awesome. I live the soup and the empanadas. They have great chicken and side dishes. Great prices and service"
"This is a nice Spanish food restaurant chain in NC. I got the Cuban rice bowl. The meat and the plantain was very juicy. The rice and beans were also delicious. The prices were really good for what you get. I paid about $11.00 for the bowl. I don't know how many locations they have but I will look that up. Not like NYC but it is close."
"I come here often and am always pleased, but y'all did me wrong this time. So this review is really not for others who may try them, because the food and service is always good, but more for the restaurant staff to not cheat us patrons! I ordered what I always do, two beef empanadas and the carne asada fries. Everything was made fresh and tasted delicious, as usual. However I got 1.5 empanadas (see pic) and the sauce container wasn't even half way full. I also noticed that the carne asada fries were still so good but a much smaller portion. I will now check my order before I leave from now on. Let's do better cause you're by far my go to for fresh, hot and delicious food!"
"If you want authentic food for a fraction of the price of mainstream restaurants... this is your place. They have a ton of lunch specials for $9.99 including the Burrito en salsa verde pictured below. They have extremely generous portions, but even I didn't expect it to come out this large. It it a very meaty burrito, stuffed to the brim with tender pulled pork, refried beans, rice and cheese, smothered in a pool of salsa verde. One of my favorite orders to date! Their salsa is one of my favorites - so fresh with great flavor and a tiny kick to it. The restaurant is located conveniently off of Albemarle rd and is spacious on the inside with the usual Latin vibes - music and decor."
"Took to go the Honduras and El Salvadoran steak. Considering that it was a weekday lunch, service was pretty slow and we had to wait 15 minutes longer for our to-go order. The meat was tough and not very flavorful, but the beans were amazing and portions incredible. Two people definitely could have shared one dish!"
"This location is just ok for me. I was in the area and decided to get a to go order. I've been to other sabor's before but this location was a first for me. There was only one table there and I didn't wait long to place my order. The staff isn't that friendly and it was hard to hear anything the cashier was saying because it was so loud in there. Also, they do have salsa to go but only two different flavors. I had to ask for the salsa I wanted. I ordered two meals and when she handed me the two to go solo mini cups of salsa, I asked for two more and she seemed slightly annoyed. Not my go to location and not sure I'll be back."
"Truly love this branch of Sabor ! Best one of all the venues . The servers are accommodating and pleasant . The food has been great quality and also fresh and hot . Extras that you add are a good price and not skimpy. The Empanadas are really one of out favorites and the Carne Asada Fries make my mouth water just thinking about them !"
"Wow, what a meal. It's not common to see Honduran food in the US. Salvadoran food is a bit more common, but is still hard to find. If you look at the low reviews, you'll see that those people were not ordering Salvadoran or Honduran food, and knew very little about Latin American culture in general. I'm glad that I ignored those reviews, and went here, based on the recommendation of a colleague. The food was amazing. I was sitting on a table across from a group of five, so I was able to see their food as well as my food. I think my soup, the Honduran Seafood Soup, is the prettiest bowl of soup I've ever had. It also might be one of the tastiest, but it took me almost two hours to eat the vast majority of it. I asked for an empty bowl for all the shells, since I didn't feel right putting them on the table. The bowl contained four crab clusters, and multiple clams, mussels, shrimp, and assorted vegetables. There was a full serving of fish on top, a bowl of rice w/ veggies next to it, and some warm tortillas wrapped up in foil. Easily enough food for two people, or for two meals. The complimentary chips and salsa were great as well. I also can't say enough about the service. The hostess and waitress were extremely friendly, checked in several times to see how I was doing, and get a solid 5 stars. The whole experience cost me $22 w/ tax and tip, which is very reasonable for the amount of food, specifically seafood, that I received. I bookmarked it, and will certainly be back."
"First time trying Quetzel. Maybe it was the timing of the lack of business but I was disappointed in mymeal as was 3 of the 4 that had lunch. The quesidilla only had chicken. I know how hard all the business are trying to survive so I don't want to be negative. Hope all small businesses will get through this difficult time."
"Came here before going to a concert downtown and will definitely return. Love the atmosphere, service was great, and the food and drinks were fantastic. Also, loved the bean dip that came with the chips and salsa."
"This is a small family owned restaurant that does things right! This review is based almost entirely on the food which is fantastic! It's a small, simple place that's nicely decorated but definitely NOT fancy. In fact, it's a little divey but charming nonetheless! They don't serve alcohol so forget about that. This place is all about the food!I think they have the best pupusas in town! They have a very distinct corn flavor and are always cooked perfectly with a crunch on the outside of them. They are served with pickled onions and shredded cabbage plus a homemade sauce on the side. Outstanding!Everything that I have had here has been great! Some dishes that I will mention are the fried chicken which is as close to homemade fried chicken as you will ever find in a restaurant. If you want great food at reasonable prices in a casual atmosphere than this is your place!"
"The food was good, however, the service was trash. When I walked in there were about 3 female staff in the front (not to mention the 2 outside on their phones ). They were so deep in their sidebar conversation they weren't paying attention to customers walking in."
"I can't tell you how authentic this might be, but it sure is delicious. Rather than have one of the varieties of fried chicken, I had the grilled. It arrived with a whole lot of chicken on the plate, a good amount of fluffy rice, some salad and a grilled jalapeno (that was pleasantly warm and not overly hot). Speaking of hot, it was right off the grill and plenty hot.Service was good. There is a television (tuned to a Spanish-language station) and a small play area for the kiddies. Soda is canned Pepsi varieties, they didn't appear to have a fountain.Great food, good service, decent price."
"I walked up to the bakery and tried the empanadas. It was my first time. It was hot and fresh and was filled with potatoes and beef. I got several to go and it came with a spicy sauce. It was DELICIOUS!!!! I will definitely com back and try their breakfast and Colombian coffee."
"Very satisfied, my family and i just moved here and were very pleased with not only the taste but the quantity of food that we received. The ladies were very helpful with all the questions that we asked and treated us as if we were family. This is a go to spot for tacos and we were very pleased!"
"It was our first time buying food from Juanita's the lunch special is very fulfilling and authentic. We had the Roasted Pork Ribs lunch special, an order of sweetplantains to go very well packaged and felt the portion size is decent. We also ordered a chocolate cake it was very good. We had bought authentic Dominican cake from them in the past at another location. Plenty of parking and location can be tricky, pay attention."
"This place has changed names to Como En Mexico. They serve Mexican street tacos and definitely better than before. They make banging food. Real $ tacos on certain days. Salsa is fresh, get red and green. My go to are 3 tacos (Asada and Pastor are my go to tacos), side of rice and/or beans, less than 8$ total on taco nights. Hidden gem, and better than any other place nearby for both flavor and value. Try it!"
"The food was fresh and authentic. The service was polite and helpful. The ambiance was nice and clean."
"This place is a hidden gem to begin with. Around it, you have Taco Bell...Denny's, McDonald's...etc etc. But when I'd want authentic I would automatically go to don Pedro's or to the east side of charlotte. But to honest...some of the best places to eat are easily overlooked. I've been in and out of this gas station for years but finally decided to give this grill a try and it's one of the best choices I've made recently. They not only have street food (tacos, burritos etc). But they also have some of your larger meals. There were too Latino females cooking on the grill when I went and they both were very friendly indeed. This will surely be my go to spot whenever I need a taco or Latino fix. Give them a try....it's great."
