The orchestra shell. Beautiful!
Heck of a walk to get here!

This past weekend, we headed north to Brevard to check out some amazing bands playing at the Mountain Song Festival. Having been to Brevard numerous time, I was surprised that I was complete unaware of the venue hosting the event, the Brevard Music Center. The event itself was awesome and featured some brilliant bluegrass artists from classics like Hot Rize and Steep Canyon Rangers to up and coming artists like Molly Tuttle. The covered, open theater, is a gem. Great acoustics, beautiful facility, and great for a show on a cool evening. The property was beautifully landscaped and had little cabins and ponds throughout. I can't wait to see another show there and learn more about the BMC!

Quaint venue and beautiful lighting! Brevard Music Center Center is perfect for people who have a love for different types of music and artists! They have friendly and accommodating staff that make you feel welcome. Our family often brings food and picnic blankets. We like to picnic on the lawn with friends when we go to a concert. A great relaxing Saturday night for sure!

Had tickets to the opera and on the tickets it said Brevard Music Center. Turned out the venue was at the Brevard college which made us late for the performance, missing the overture and unable to get to our reserved seats up front. Many others had the same problem. They made us sit in the back in poorly located seats. We left at intermission. Had it been clearly stated where the performance was located it would have been great and I'd give it 5 stars but this ruined it for us.

Why are there no reviews for what is decidedly the only, truly five star musical event that happens every year in WNC? This is a must for locals and tourist alike. So many people that live here don't even know about it and they are celebrating their 80th anniversary this summer. The music includes world performers from Steep Canyon Rangers to Artistic Director Keith Lockhart conducting world class classical musicians in some of the finest repertoire on the planet. There is also a wonderful opera company with guest artists leading young opera singers from around the globe. And their repertoire is far reaching and comprehensive. I cannot, cannot stress what you are missing if you don't check it out. This is the last week of a two month festival and I can't wait to go to the Sunday afternoon performance of Beethoven's Ninth. Everybody plays! Everybody sings! Did I mention most of it is in the woods outdoors under one of the finest orchestra shelters in the US?! GO! PS Bring a picnic. You can get the wine and gelato there.

I had a great experience at Brevard! Awesome facility and staff, but the summer institute is definitely not for the faint of heart, things get intense very fast there, and it may be hard for some to keep up.
