Boxcar Grille

A Statesville staple. If you want decent food, average service, and a quick meal this is your go-to. I wouldn't describe anything as beyond "average/good," but they are consistent and kind. Always a good burger which is surprisingly cooked to the temperature you request. Love their chips and salad bar.

Boxcar Grille is definitely a family favorite of ours. But to be honest, I have never eaten off the menu, just their buffet bars. They have an excellent breakfast buffet on the weekends and during the week/weekends they have a salad bar. Everything on the breakfast bar is good and fresh. There isn't as much choice as the giant buffet chains, but what they do have is tasty, good and filling. We came here once for the salad buffet, and I was very impressed. It also doesn't have as many choices, but what they did have was fresh and crisp and cool, and really hit the spot. They have options on their menu to mix it up a little and add the salad buffet to either something you have or add a baked potato to it. I tried the baked potato, and that was also cooked, perfectly fluffy and hit the spot. They also have the option with the salad bar to either have "all you can eat" or one plate only. I'd like that choice, because I only wanted one plate of salad and baked potato, and I still was very, very full afterwards.The ladies that work here are super sweet. They're constantly cleaning, refilling, the bars, getting drinks, etc. They really work hard for their pay. I appreciate that. If you're in town, you really do need to give this place a try.

I stopped in here for a quick week day lunch and had a great experience! Love the salad bar! The pineapple chicken was tasty and the veggies had a great seasoning on them. The lunch specials were great value and the service was kind and quick. I loved the railroad themes and the unique layout that

We arrived at 8:20 for a 9pm closing but we got excellent service, the food was good and the salad bar was fresh and plentiful. I ordered twin engine tips with grilled veggies and green beans. I'm not a fan of cauliflower and there was too much and the broccoli was undercooked; I could've eaten a whole plate of the grilled carrots tho. Green beans could use some fatback seasoning or even some chunks of ham or bacon for flavor. Tips were cooked just right. I'd probably ask for half veggies on these next time. Not many people in there since it was closing time but those who were seemed to be pleased with the service and food. It was very quiet even with the bar and pool tables going.

Service was great! It's an older place but huge. They have an area with pool tables. The salad bar was great! A great size for a meal or a side. The food was decent. The patty melt was nice and fresh and the burger was good. The mac n cheese was terrible. Reminded me of the Gerber toddler mac n cheese meals. The bread is great!

Me, my siblings, aunt, and grandma had gone there one Friday night a while back. It was me and my siblings first time, and we absolutely loved it! Their burgers are top tier and they have a variety of burgers to choose from. I had the black and blue burger. That has blue cheese crumbles and gooey delicious cheese. Best burger I put in my mouth! And they have a very delicious salad bar, you can order the bar and have unlimited salads! It was so good we went at least two Friday nights in a row. I hope to go back soon!

I would just like to know why do you get little salad plates for a 1 trip salad bar and a big salad plate for unlimited wouldn't it be more logical for the big plate to be a 1 trip salad bar and a small plate for unlimited? you can't get very much on that small plate for all the things offered on the salad bar for 1 trip so make the big plate for 1 trip salad bar and the little plates for unlimited because you can always go back and get "unlimited" with a small plate. it really makes no sense to me and then charge $5 for a 1 trip salad bar. Thats a rip off and you should really look into changing the plate situation or the cost of the small plate 1 trip salad bar. now as far as your breakfast bar on the weekends I think is expensive first of all for it to always be empty and having to wait for it to get replenished is ridiculous and to not offer the salad bar with the breakfast bar with that price is also ridiculous. Golden Corral offers way more then here and I spend the same amount as I would at this establishment. so between Boxcar Grille and Golden Corral I pick Golden Corral majority of the time.

Always had good service but tonight I ate 1/3 of my meal and found a hair. Didn't eat anymore and brought it to the attention of my server (quietly of course ) because these things happen. She did apologize however didn't reflect that on the bill.
