I finally had a chance to try out this place in Optimist Hall.If you are craving a chicken sandwich, look no further.This place lives up to their name. The chicken sandwich was juicy and tasty. Everything about it was great.The sweet potatoes fries were amazing.They both compliment each other. I will have to go back here sometime soon.

Chicken Not So Waffle Sandwich (2/5): Very disappointing sandwich. The chicken tasted like something you'd get in the freezer section (except it was still fairly crispy) and the bun was like a cheap hamburger bun. I also wasn't a fan of the pimento cheese. Pretty small sandwich too.Fries (3/5): Very mediocre, but it's hard to mess up fries too bad. RATING SYSTEM5 - Great (Need to get this again)4 - Good (Would get this again)3 - Ok (Might give this another shot)2 - Not Good (Won't get this again)1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

This was a solid chicken place, I had the not so waffle sandwich and also tried the chicken nuggets. Sandwich is a little small but the flavors are definitely there. The chicken isn't my favorite but as I stated earlier was definitely solid. Nuggets were pretty good too. Like the options they have and would try again. Staff was also friendly and quick service

I'm pretty bummed that I'm only giving this place 3/5 stars. The pimento cheese stuffed mushroom sandwich was so good. It was absolutely phenomenal. The staff was great, and there was plenty of seating during lunchtime on Sunday! But the sweet potato fries were awful. They didn't taste good fresh or reheated. I was so excited for them and very disappointed. Maybe it was just a bad batch, but I would be hesitant to get them again. The sandwich though?! I'd eat that every day!

My partner and I are visiting family for Thanksgiving. As a part of my one new restaurant a month journey, they suggested optimist hall ! It was a lot of fun walking around and getting all of the free smells ! It also wasn't as busy as I imagined it being. The four of us each got something different: I got the chicken sandwich from Boxcar Betty's. It had pimento cheese, bacon jam, and maple syrup ! I definitely recommend: but be aware, it is super messy. The chicken is breaded and fried perfectly. Honestly one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had.

I ordered the boxcar sandwich. This was a pretty good sandwich. I loved how big it was! I did expect it to have more flavor. I could not taste the pimento cheese or spicy Mayo that much. The sweet potato fries were also lacking some flavor and a lot of them still had the skin on. I would have liked more cinnamon sugar on them or a fun dipping sauce.Overall, the food was good and the portions were nice for the price.

Boxcar Betty's is one of my fav go to spots in charlotte for a quick bite with full flavor! Their boxcar chicken sandwich is chefs kiss. The pimento cheese is amazing and the chicken is fried to perfection. I love their spot in optimist hall because it's the perfect spot to have lunch at one place, grab a cocktail somewhere else, and have a dessert at one of the other vendors. The best part is you can sit inside or outside, so you can decide what you are feeling that day! The service is always friendly and attentive and quick! I would for sure give it a 10 out of 10 and highly recommend to anyone who is either visiting and needs somewhere quick to go on their lunch break or any Charlotte natives who are in the mood for a delicious chicken sandwich :)

Picture this:It's a Saturday afternoon, literally Noon. You need to be down the street for 2pm. You have a husband, 1 yr old and a 10 year old who all want/need different things for lunch at the food hall. Is 2 hours enough? Not at rush hour!I begrudgingly jumped into line at Boxcar Betty's after learning the empanada place doesn't put cheese in their empanadas (Blasphemy!) Betty's was close to where we were sitting and honestly had a somewhat short line. As I stood in line waiting I could see food sitting on the counter all prepped but waiting for at least one more ingredient with a plump of some weird brown stuff in a ball on the bun. They sat for a good few minutes and started making my stomach churn. I thought about stepping out of line but knew I needed food. I only stayed because I told myself that is a buffalo sandwich I am not getting buffalo! As I cashed out, those sandwiches still sat there.I had a chicken sandwich minus the pimento with bleu cheese and bacon jam (oh how I LOVE bacon jam!) I bit into that sandwich and in all honesty, my taste buds rejoiced! It was flavorful. The fries are basic. Nothing special. I did order chicken tenders which is a little closer to popcorn chicken but it was fresh, a good amount and the kids really liked them.Let's wrap up that picture:It was a rush down the street and we did not make the 2pm deadline as a whole family. We had to split and conquer as we got caught on the wrong side of the train tracks. Moral of the story, if you have someplace to be at a certain time allow PLENTY of time during midday or eat somewhere else.

I love a good fried chicken sandwich so a place devoted to it seems right up my alley. I've been meaning to stop by Optimist Hall to try this place for a while. One day while working remote I decided it was time to try it so I ordered on Door Dash. I ordered the Plain Jane and the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. On the Plane Jain I swapped out the mayo for spicy mayo, the chicken was good but I wish they added more mayo. There wasn't a lot so the sandwich was kind of dry. I think next time I would add another condiment. The Buffalo chicken on the other hand was great. Smothered in Buffalo sauce and blue cheese it was very flavorful and savory. The quality of the chicken they use is top notch. It's a simple concept that they execute well. If you are seeking out a solid chicken sandwich look no further.

Not one to leave a bad review but wow is this place disappointing. I have had better chicken sandwiches at my old high school. You should go get a McChicken at McDonalds for $2. You will be more satisfied. This is the skinniest piece of chicken I've ever had on a sandwich. Look at my finger for scale. Do not spend your money here. This is so mid I am so shocked it has 4 stars overall
