This is a really nice, semi tight municipal golf course. Like most municipal golf courses, it plays slow. It was in nice shape and fun to play.

Boone Golf Club is a solid 4-star mid-tier public golf facility. I really enjoyed our round at this scenic course which is nestled in a valley among the Blue Ridge Mountains. The weather was perfect, the staff was friendly, the pace of play on a very busy Saturday was reasonable, the course was in excellent condition, and the price was right. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this track to anyone looking to play a round in the Boone/Blowing Rock area. The course opened in 1959 and was designed by Ellis Maples who designed numerous courses in North Carolina. This is a relatively easy course, making it great for beginners and casual golfers. From the tips (blue tees), the course measures 6,686 yards with a rating/slope of 71.3/128. We played from the white tees where the course measures 6,018 yards with a rating/slope of 68.1/120. Generally, the holes are quite scorable for many amateur golfers yet challenging enough to keep your interest. The layout of the course is fairly straightforward and compact. The design is understated. There are no houses on the course. The holes are positioned closely together, but not too close. The fairways are nice, wide, and accepting. The rough is moderately thick, thicker than the rough at most public courses I've played on, but not high-end or PGA Tour course thick. The greens are huge so they're easy to hit. However, you'll want to stick it close. Otherwise, you could be left with some really long and daunting putts. The greens have quite a bit of curvature and undulation to them. Some of the pin placements can be rather tricky. Your short game skills will definitely be put to the test.I was really impressed with the condition of the course. From tee box to fairway to green, each hole looked great. Not that all private clubs have tip-top conditioning, but the way this course has been maintained, it looked private club quality; nicely manicured. The large greens were in terrific shape. From hole to hole and from fringe to fringe, the greens were consistently smooth and fast. Our balls rolled true. We played a skins game and it made each putt pressure-packed. We had no issues with the greens. As mentioned above, the course is nestled in a valley. While you are playing golf in the mountains, the holes on this course do not have any extreme or significant elevation changes. Most elevation changes are minor to moderate and, in fact, several holes are comparatively flat and level. That said, you get some great views of the nearby mountains all around you. Just about every hole has a beautiful vista. There aren't a whole lot of trees/woods/forest to contend with and from that standpoint, the course feels pretty wide open. You do have to thread your drives between hallways of trees on Nos. 6 (par 5) and 18 (par 4) back towards the clubhouse, but that's about it.I'd say the number of bunkers is at or just below average. Like the rest of the course, the bunkers were in outstanding condition with soft, light tan/white sand. There are water hazards, but not many. A few creeks wind and weave their way throughout the course. The biggest water hazard is the pond which guards the par-5 6th green. It's a forced carry for your third shot and according to the scorecard, it's the hardest hole (No. 1 handicap hole for both men and women) on the course. Good luck. The clubhouse is situated on top of a hill and offers a fantastic panorama of the course and the mountains in the distance. There are a range and practice putting green, which was in wonderful condition, but we didn't have time to use them. We did stop by the clubhouse grill at the turn to pick up hot dogs and drinks. The grill is called Fairway Cafe & Venue. A menu is provided in your golf cart. If you want to pick something up at the turn, call ahead when you're on the 9th (or 18th, if starting on the back) tee. We started on the back, called in our orders when we got to 18, and our hot dogs were sitting on the bar waiting for us when we walked inside.I got a chili & slaw dog ($4.25) and a Windy City dog (Chicago dog, $5) and they were both delicious. Aside from hot dogs, Fairway Cafe & Venue also serves sandwiches (including a BBQ pork sandwich), snacks, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The grill processes payments using Square. Android and Apple Pay are accepted. Unfortunately, there was no food and beverage cart service during our round. I'm not sure why and it didn't make sense because the course was absolutely packed the day we played. They really should have had a refreshment cart. The clubhouse is two stories and spacious, particularly the golf shop which seems to stock a decent amount of equipment and apparel. The golf carts are basic electric E-Z-GO carts and they were in good condition. I don't think the clubhouse has adequate shoe cleaners. I only saw a couple scrubbers and one of them was completely worn out.We paid $55 each for our Saturday morning round which I thought was a fair price.

I want to echo the other reviewers' sentiments on over booking. These guys have no problem taking your money and then shoving four groups on one tee box. We played the front nine in about an hour and a half because we were the first group of the morning. We made the turn and there were three groups of four on the 10th. The starters just started sending people off the back, cutting in front of everyone else. The course was nice but when your back nine take 3 hours to play, it's ridiculous. We were ALWAYS waiting. These guys just take your money and don't care at all. So far, 100% of the reviewers have said the same thing, so you are warned.

The course was beautiful and we had a great time playing it. However I have never been treated so rudely by a golf course employee.. My group and I were yelled at by the marshall for misunderstanding a sign that read "All play #10". The sign was supposed to say "all play starts at #10". We were treated very harshly by this employee. I've never left a review before but I feel very strongly that we were mistreated and threatened over a simple misunderstanding. In front of other golfers on the tee box he yelled and got into my face as if he was going to hit me. My friends and I have played golf all over the country and have never experienced such threatening and unprofessional behavior.

Do not go here if you are a young woman, college student or new player. The course marshal will harass, intimidate and bully you off of the course. My daughter and her friend hit one tee shot and were approached by the marshal. They were told they did not belong there and should leave. The marshal also lied saying they would get a refund. The clubhouse would only give them a rain check even though they were told to leave. I had to call out there and push them to get the refund. Awful treatment of people for a public course

Several days ago I phone Boone golf to schedule a round of golf with my grandchildren. I informed them that we are new and would need to be the last to play today. My granddaughter had started taking lessons so I want to encourage her to continue. I rented two golf carts and 3 golf clubs. We were so excited to started a new adventure. We started on hole one and followed the couple in front of us. At hole two the guy who works there and had been following us had pull his golf cart next to my daughters and was talking to her and waving me over. I went over and he started yelling at me and pointed his finger at me and told me not to argue with him. I had not said anything. I ask him what was going on and he said I dropped a divot and we had gotten on the grass and he wanted want us to leave now! I was shocked! I said we would. He returned our money and told me not to come back until we all knew how to play. Next time I will take my grandchildren to Wilkesboro. This is not the type of memory I want to make with my grandchildren!

I am shocked Boone GC doesn't have a higher rating here. The course was in phenomenal shape. Not just for a muni, but on par with some private clubs. No bare lies, consistent greens, etc... very well maintained. Also, a lot of mountain courses can have ridiculous side angles or hokey, impossible holes, but Boone doesn't. Obviously it doesn't play particularly long, but it's not gimmicky. Finally, to speak about pace of play- we did have to wait on the group in front of us occasionally, but I think it might've been due more to their skill level. This a resort town with a lot of relaxing retirees, so I think that should be considered. Our group got around in less than 4 hours.

First our disappointment....... Only got in 14 holes as the pace of play was incredibly slow. When we got to #6 on the front side (they put us off on #10 first) we caught the group in front of us and realized the problem. There was a group of 8 young men, all teeing off togetther and playing the hole as an eight some. Several of the players would hit their drive poorly, go out and pick their ball up then bring it back to the tee and proceeded to tee off a second time. I counted 12 tee shots including their mulligans before we could tee off. We could not believe our eyes........It was obvious that it would be dark before we could finish. So we packed it up and called it a day after 14 holes. As we drove to the club house we noticed a five some(ahead of the eight some) that were playing the hole in clear view of the pro shop. Rather disgusted I went into the pro shot to complain. I was told by the pro there were no eight somes on the course even though I had just witnessed all eight tee off together. I guess he thought I was blind. I pointed out the window to 5 players on the below green. Their excuse was the course was crowded today and the pace of play was slow. I asked why we never saw a ranger the whole day - again no answer. It is very unfortunate that those who run the course from the pro shop have an "I really don't give a darn" attitude when valid concerns are brought to their attention. I give the course superintendent an "A" as the course is in good shape. The pro a "F-" Come on you are better than that fellows. I hope the people these men work for see this review and explain proper and acceptable golf etiquette because it was not in evidence here today.

Excellent course, good pricing, good food and drink prices and friendly people. Could use a cart person though and should take er a little easy on over booking tee times. Other than that, a great course in Boone!

This is a fun course with challenging holes and easy holes. The management completely overbooks the tee times and players are stacked on top of each other. I've played here two times now, and both times, I've felt either rushed or held up on each hole of the 18. I cannot remember feeling like it was a normal hole that I could just sit back and play. This most recent time, we were a twosome paired with a handicapped twosome - the man was on crutches! It was impossible to finish holes timely and not break etiquette. It was hard on us and our new friends were embarrassed to be holding not only us up but also the people behind us. They didn't wholly play most holes bc they felt as though they were holding up the entire course.
