First off, if I pay $75-$100 for a round of gol, I want a fun enjoyable experience. Instead, Birkdale gives you pin spots that would be acceptable for a Sunday final round of the US Open, but not for a Saturday morning outing with my boys. Come on greens superintendent, you can do better than this. Secondly, I played about 6 or 7 holes before having to stop due to a blister on my left hand index finger that is very painful when gripping a golf club. So I rode with my friend as that was my ride home, and when I explained and asked for a 9 hole rain check, the big bald guy was a real jerk about it. Arnie would be disappointed, this ain't it. you're money is better spent elsewher.

Arnie would probably not be real happy with the condition of his course today.I was able to snag a $35 deal with the GolfNow app and got on for a 130p tee time. I got paired with a guy named Clint who had just retired and moved from California to Denver NC.He had played before & we're about the same age so it worked out good. He was able to offer some guidance on how the course plays.I'm sure when this course was first built in 1997 it was considered a premiere course. Not so much today as the years have not been kind. The tee boxes are good, the fairways are good but the greens were in very poor condition. There were bare spots, unprepared divots and ragged patches. The front nine was much worse than the back.I really didn't care for the layout and design of this course. Way too many green side bunkers and the green design and pin placement made it very difficult at times. The Staff was nice, the Starter was great, the check in was smooth and easy and the facilities seemed OK. There is a driving range and a small practice putting green area.On one of the holes on the front nine, balls that are hit from the driving range and are off-line come into the fairway which is very frustrating.I doubt I play this course again. I was disappointed since I had heard so many great things about the course when it first opened.

I enjoyed the facilities, and my round today. But, I only played 9 holes and the greens were not in good condition at all. They aerated the greens and your putts felt every hole like pot holes in NYC!! Now, I know that is par for the course, so to speak but don't charge me full price ($35) for 9 when you know your greens are in this conditionSo for now, You should skip over this course and play down the road..... I know I will, even though this is the most convenient corse for me.

Horrific condition. Greens full of bare spots, bumps, spike marks, ball marks, and slowwwwwww.How slow? Negative 4 on the Stimp.Bunkers have more ravines then the Grand Canyon. I had a 10-footer for birdie on six; the super decided my ball needed to be washed and turned on the sprinklers.Final straw? After playing behind a guy with two kids for 2-1/2 hours on the front, we went to 10 tee to find the starter let a twosome jump in front of us. Not cool. Not sure why we even bothered to get a rain check. One positive note: beverage cart attendants were pleasant, helpful, attentive and frequent.

Caddyshack.........period. I've been here a few times for a beer. At least 2 bartenders that each time.Beer is priced OK, food is the same. What I find interesting about this place is that you can play 18 holes and get stoned to the be-jesus in the bar afterward.........which I've seen on each occasion. Folks so drunk they could barely stand.Families....guys staying away from the wife at home (for like the last 10 years)...older guys that have just enough liquid courage to chat up my GF while I'm right beside her.Add in decor from the VERY early 80s/Late 70s and you have a place with a lot of character.....................and pretty much not much more.

I have not played 18 yet, but this review if for their driving range.Pros- Grass TeesOpen till 7pmCons-Really old and horrible range balls. $14 for a large bucket, about 120balls.The folks at the clubhouse was nice enough. There is a chipping green andn putting green. All that is great. Except for the condition of the range balls. I got frustrated at hitting them becuase they felt like wet mud. So much that I dropped a few of my own titleist at the end of practice , hit them to get some sanity back...Otherwise, good place, price is decent. But pleease... get some new range balls...

The greens are tiptop now after being completely rebuilt in 2021. It is a neighborhood golf course, so don't expect more, but it has some really good holes, a couple of weak ones, and several for the average weekend golfer to enjoy. Good people, an excellent driving range, and a really nice walk if you choose not to ride. Birkdale definitely in comeback mode.

Old reviews don't reflect Birkdale in 2022. I've played there Sept 2020, Jan/Apr/Oct 2021 and Feb/May 2022. I did NOT like Birkdale in 2020-21 at all - it was in poor condition and the some greens were awful, only played there because my regular golf buds booked it. But new management put a lot of work into the course in 2021 and they have vastly improved the place especially now in Spring 2022 - just played there today with 11 other guys, and all of us were pleased, everyone noticed the improvement. So if you want a good course to play around Lake Norman/Huntersville - I would now recommend Birkdale.

Great golf course, great people, great food in Arnies tavern, if you have not been there make sure you go even for that just the food and even if you're not a golfer. It's a small very nice atmosphere and ambience, they have a few TVs where Sports plays and especially golf if it's golf season of course. Family atmosphere, there's many locals that congregate here after their rounds of golf or even just for the heck of it and everybody knows everybody so it's very family feeling, and they welcome you with your new which I was when I first went, I'm talking now about Arnie's Tavern, the golf course is pretty amazing also and well-kept and very nice greens, overall fantastic place to golf and inexpensive especially cheap of course during twilight during the summer months and golf season. Jeff the owner is fantastic, great guy, you can't even see him behind the counter in their golf shop there once in a while. If you haven't taken lessons, I would highly recommend it because they have some professional golf teachers who are certified. Terry was fantastic, again I highly recommend this golf course

I've played in many, many clubs across the US and Europe and I specifically like to go to some local spots to check out a few games because you never know what you'll find.I was extremely disappointed in this place. People had said the greens had gotten better but they are not in top condition. My game was off, bunkers are in need of work and even the cart path is in disrepair. Whoever is in charge of the greens needs to find another course or maybe a putt putt place to work at. A real professional needs to be put in this. Could be a good course but there needs some work to be done. I wouldn't recommend to anyone who plays with passion.
