Big Dipper

If you want a taste of grandma's cooking, look no further than Big Dipper. It's a small little cafeteria style restaurant where you grab a tray, pick your special and sides and then go down the line and let the homemade desserts speak your name. You're treated like family from the moment you walk in and I suspect that most of the patrons were regulars. I ordered the beef tips and rice, stewed cabbage, and green beans. The beef tips and rice tasted like nostalgia, like my grandmother (adoringly known as "Nannie") had called me over to her wood stove heated home and fixed me a big plate of her cookin'. They treated my children like royalty. The gentleman who I suspected was the owner engaged with girls and really made them feel special. My family has been back a few more times and has been very pleased with everything they've gotten. I was told the soup and grilled cheeses was perfection on a cold, rainy day. They have daily specials, but I suspect it's all delicious!

Very good food ! The beets were nicely pickled and seasoned, mashed potatoes always homemade. Service is excellent as well feel like family.

I got a vegetable plate at the drive-through today. Five vegetables, and I had difficulty stopping at five! They all sounded so good. I will just have to go back frequently! The squash casserole (special) was delicious, and the staples were excellent--green beans, pintos, slaw, and mashed potatoes. They were generous with the onions I asked for on the beans and pintos, and the lady at the window was friendly and chatty. I loved that. The price was reasonable, and I will go back again and again! I used to go here long ago, and they have had a (not recent) change of management. I will become a regular again.

I grew up eating at the Big Dipper--either grabbing dinner with my parents or going out for a special date with my grandparents. So I have a lot of good memories surrounding this place and their food. I grabbed a lunch here and was so happy it was Thursday--chicken pie day! Chicken pie day was always my favorite growing up. In addition to some fabulous chicken pie, I had some green beans and broccoli casserole (another Thursday special). The portions were good size, especially for lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will come back soon (maybe on a different day to try a different special).

Excellence home cooked food. Very authentic southern fare, made to free dishes and cafeteria style serving. Will definitely return every time we go through Asheboro. Very convenient exit from I74

This place is a must if you want great home cook meals and hospitality. The food reminds me of my mom's home-cook meals. She has Alzheimer's and can no longer cook, but this is a wonderful alternative. The staff are so nice and provide excellent customer service. I would highly recommend Big Dipper!

I am so pleased that we stopped to check out this small mom and pop restaurant. Asheboro wouldn't be the same without the Big Dipper vibes. The environment is quaint and simple, yet inviting and friendly. If you're vacationing to the zoo, and want an inexpensive and delicious place to dine at, look no further.Tamara is a phenomenal host and waitress and she made our experience quite the treat. I would definitely recommend either the special of the day (in my case the baked chicken and two sides, Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes for me), and the cheeseburger that my travel buddy got.There are several different salads and handheld options. And they have plenty of sodas and other beverages for your choosing. And if you're thinking about dessert, you are in good shape because they make their own! Go visit the Big Dipper for a meal today!

This is very unfortunate because I was willing to buy breakfast and lunch from them today and both times got disappointed they have not updated their website nor their menus which means it's false advertising they refuse to honor their prices advertised and caught attitudes saying look sorry but not sorry all we can do is whenever the manager comes in we'll let her know both the menus and website are wrong and need to be updated. This morning wanting a breakfast plate came up to 8.99 instead of the 7.99 advertised this afternoon wanting a plate advertising 5.99 and it's actually 8.99 seriously I'm very disappointed to have to be at work all day knowing I'm excited to try your food out to be lied to about the prices and told sorry not sorry only have one start because I could give zero stars

We were on the way to the beach and stopped in, so glad we did! It was a great breakfast with large portions and very reasonable prices. The staff very nice. Highly recommend!
