Asian One

For context, I been to pretty much every Chinese food restaurant in the Ballantyne area on my quest to find a quick and delicious take out lunch option for those times when I am craving some General Tso's, and I realized that it had been a while since I gave Asian One a shot, so I figured what better time than the present right? Overall, this place isn't good, isn't bad, it is just kinda eh, as the portions aren't that large and the prices aren't a great value and nothing really stands out at all. Again, it is not bad if you are in the area and need a quick fix, but even though it is less than 5 minutes away, I have no problem driving by it on the way to other places that provide more flavor, larger portions and a better value.

I was quite confused when I picked up my to-go order, but the food portion size and taste were good. When I arrived, I noticed that there was a bag of food on the table closest to the door, as well as a bag of food next to the cash register. They keep a makeshift barricade near the front entrance that is about 20 feet away from the cash register so they definitely maintain social distancing to the max between staff and customers. I was told multiple times that I was #2. I never understood what that meant since I did not order menu item #2, nor did my receipt indicate that I was #2 (when I checked it later). I did, however, order 2 items. Still, I was very confused when my payment was collected and I was not handed any food. I thought I would be receiving the bag that was sitting by the cash register. Eventually, I was told that the bag on the table closest to me was "#2" and therefore mine. Once I opened my container of food, I realized that my Sesame Chicken (dinner special, $8.89, served with fried rice and egg roll) was covered in a red-orange sauce that strongly resembled sweet and sour sauce. Needless to say, I was confused all over again. Clearly, it had sesame seeds too so surely, it had to be the correct order, but when I ordered this dish from other restaurants in the past, it always came in a brown sauce. Still, I enjoyed my meal, even though it tasted more like sweet and sour chicken.

Service was spot on - Covid sensitive pick up, food excellent, good pricing. Only drawback is the limited menu - vey traditionally Americanized Chinese - what we had was tasty. Very light on the veggies in our selections for my taste. Would live to see coconut rice on the menu and Pad Thai

I can't lie, my food was not good tonight. I ordered the orange chicken dinner which comes with fried rice and an egg roll. No complaints about the egg roll......The rice I tasted first. It was cooked on the hard side. I hate that. Very little flavor as well. So I threw it in a bowl, added some water and about 3 soy sauce packets and put it in the microwave to try to steam cook it for a while. It helped a little. The orange chicken...... It was a bit spicier that normal, but fine, I'll deal. What I didn't like was after a few bites, I got a piece with a pretty harsh, acid like, almost metallic taste. I took another bite from a diff piece of chicken in the same area and got the same result. Well that's all I needed. I was done with those meal. Even if the taste wasn't unbearable, I'm not gonna chance eating something that taste bad that could end up being bad FOR me as well. First time ive had an issue there, but after this, I am kinda nervous to eat from there again.

Love their "takey outey" food. After 6 years of ordering from them, their food never disappoints.

Food was ok, the environment is not welcoming tho, I guess is a ok food for pick up orders

Been ordering from here for years. Quality of food not good today. Tasted like leftovers. Might be the hour and 25 minutes it took to deliver it, which was 40 minutes longer than the estimated time I was told in my email confirmation. When I have to call twice to get a status and threaten to cancel the order, then the food shows up not tasting like it always has, it's tough to be pleased. Going to try some other local options and see if I can get something better for my $$.

We tried this restaurant for the first time. Had shrimp hibachi and steamed dumplings. The food was very good. I would recommend this place.

Doesn't any Chinese restaurant in Charlotte serve real fried rice? Fried rice is not soggy, sticky and soaked with soy sauce.
