I came here on a Sunday afternoon for the first time to see 39 Steps. As many people said, parking is street only, so be sure to arrive at least half an hour ahead of time. The theater has two stages. The main stage can accommodate maybe 100 to 200 people, but it created a really nice atmosphere. The backstage is much smaller. The play I saw was on the main stage. I enjoyed that everything started on time and had only a 15 minute break for intermission. The play itself was fantastic. I know that Asheville is a cultural center with lots of artsy folks, but the actors were top-notch even assuming that. I will be coming back for a few other plays this month, and can't wait to see what more they can offer. I also enjoyed that the play was translated into American sign language. I think including diversity and accommodating people of different abilities is essential.

Last night my husband and I attended the sold out show, Elf the Musical. The small theater put on a fantastic production! We enjoyed every moment of this hilarious version of one of our favorite Christmas movies. We will definitely return for other shows.

ACT is sending an incredibly dangerous message by FIRING an actor from a production for raising safety concerns.I was already uncomfortable with their health policies for shows -- as an immunocompromised person, I feel that they aren't taking public health seriously and are endangering their cast and crew and our community. But to remove an actor from a show after he respectfully raised concerns? That's absolutely unacceptable. We know the deadly consequences that ignoring safety can have, and ACT has made themselves part of the problem.I love Asheville theatre in general and have attended past ACT shows, but I won't be supporting ACT until they take a stand against this disrespectful and dangerous choice and publicly commit to stop silencing those who speak up for what's right.

I love ACT's effort and overall professionalism, but this recent production of Bright Star was so painful, I couldn't even return after the first act (I've been in and a patron of theatre for decades and I've never brought myself to do that - till Bight Star.) Those players tried their hearts out but this awful script that makes an ABC after school special seem palatable, absolutely uncontrolled lead female singing volume that made your ears cry (there were points where it felt like she screamed words and notes out) in this a dreadfully outdated, recycled story that has been overwritten forever will make me think twice about ever going back. Even the opening number felt like the finale, I knew something was off right then.

I really enjoyed my experience at the Asheville Community Theatre. I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought my ticket to 9 to 5 as I thought it was going to be in the smaller building on the corner but there is another building I discovered that was much larger. I'm not sure of the number of seats but it was around 200. The stage was large as well so the cast of at least 30 was able to utilize it all and even were in the audience for some parts. The seating is divided into five sections; left; right center and back right and back left. I sat on the left and thought the view was great. The ticket was $30 so not bad for a show. The back sections are $15 and I'm sure had a great view too as those seats were still fairly close to the stage. The cast was very talented. If I did not know otherwise I would have assumed it was a professionally produced production as the singing, choreography, and sets were elaborate. I wish I lived closer to attend more performances but I will make the drive to see a few a year. The show was very timely with the Me Too movement. "If you don't take the reins It's gonna stay the same. Nothin's gonna change If you don't change it!"The location is great here as there are so many restaurants nearby to go before or after a show. I did not need parking but finding it could be a challenge although the friendly staff likely has suggestions for those that need parking.

This place is freaking wonderful!! For such a small town there is a massive amount of talent. There has been some serious talent in every production that I've seen here. But note that I'm a musical lover and I can't really say how good their plays are. Except the Christmas pageant which was so hilarious! At the Asheville Community Theater I've seen several shows. The stand outs have been Young Frankenstein, awesome, awesome! Igor's performance was super fantastic! Igor was played by senior in high school and he gave an extremely impressive performance. Another of my favorite performances was The Great American Trailer Park, so funny, great singers and an adorable set. The sets are just one more thing that I am always impressed by. I applaud the set designers they hire. They are always really wonderful and set the mood and give that boost to your imagination to help transport you to wherever they want you to go. This is a wonderful venue and the casting is always impressive. This place is a fantastic place to spend your money at! Go you won't be disappointed!

This theater exposes children to inappropriate sexual content.I took my young children to Elf Jr on a special trip with hundreds of other elementary school children. Though advertised for children, the play had inappropriate sexual content. My children were horrified by this and I had to answer many questions from them after the play. When I wrote to them about this, they rudely told me not to come back. They are very unsympathetic to the needs of family and children.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!We recently attended a play at the 35 Below venue. This venue is located behind the main venue in a small building and has a bright blue awning. I do believe that this is the "off color" underground theater that is strictly for adults. So, when you are considering community theater, be sure to contact the theater directly to ask about the specific content of the play or production you want to see. We failed to do this and was surprised by a raunchy and distasteful presentation. At no time was there a warning that this play presented very adult content and we simply prefer more traditional performances. The actual description of the play was a fail as it gave no indication of the show's true content. Also, this Is a small venue that only seats 40 people so if you are not sure if you will be able to sit through the entire production, you will want too sit on an outer seat. ***Just know that there is not much going on in this area so you will definitely want to eat before attending a performance. ***That one Greek restaurant within walking distance is not open on Sunday. ***Parking is challenging, arrive early.
