Hidden gem. Great comfort food and a friendly staff. Great place for a quick but delicious lunch if you're in the Rockingham area.

I was traveling with a couple of friends through Rockingham, NC about lunch time. We googled "country cooking near me" and found a diner with a high review and we decided to stop for lunch. The name was #1 Diner at 953 S. Hancock St. I am glad we did! This was a hidden gem. The food was delicious. The prices were great. Best of all was the service, it was out of this world! I just can not say enough about this restaurant. I ordered the fried porkchop plate with 2 sides for $10. It came with 2 porkchops and one of my sides was the salad bar. The salad bar alone was worth my time. The porkchops were heavenly and the sweet ice tea was right on point (not everyone can make good ice tea). My friend had the cheeseburger with chili and slaw along with potato wedges and tea for $7.99. She said hers was fabulous as well. Oh, I forgot to mention the coconut cake was also amazing. They have homemade deserts for 50 cent! They have daily specials also. We are already planning a special trip back to try the turkey & dressing and the chicken & dumplings. I wish I had taken a photo of my plate, but I didn't know it was going to be so good. If you are in the Rockingham area, I recommend #1 dinner.

We were traveling Hwy 74 and were hungry. My husband pulled off on an exit to look for a place to eat. As we drove by I saw a small diner with a LOT of cars around it. We decided to try it. Best decision we made that day. The food was very good. In fact we liked the country style steak so much we tried to recreate it at home!
