This was my first time here. Compared to the other restaurants in Old Town. It is very slow. There only two waiters. The closer it got to 1pm. The busier it got. The service is okay. The waiter was very polite, and checked on us often. After the food was served. The ambiance is an old time western Mexican theme. Right next to restaurant, are musicians that play for the plaza. So you get to hear some smooth jazz and Latino music. The food was pretty good. The Molcajete De Maria, is a great option for a first timer. It is filled with a wide selection of the treats. Inside has carne asada, chicken, onions, cheese, cactus, jalapeño, shrimp, and chorizo. My favorite part was the cheese. Two thick cuts of queso fresco. This item is served in a piping hot Molcajete. You must be careful with this. As it can burn you. This is also a dish shared, and shared a little fast. I say this because the dish is hot, and will continue the cooking process. Especially the shrimp. They will overcook them and make them stick to the Molcajete. The smoothies sweet. So if you love sweet drinks. This is up your alley. The Jamaica is not overly sweet. This is a nice drink on a warm day. I would come here again.

Also the drinks are STRONG! The service is always fast and they are always checking in on you! 10/10 especially for locals like us

A must go-to place in Old Town! If you're here, ask for Robert. He is an amazing bartender/ server. The margaritas were made fresh and delicious with a touch of originality from Robert's bartending skills. The chips and guacamole were made fresh and were delicious!

We went down to Old Town for the Dio de los Muertos event and stopped here to eat. while the outside seating was nice and refreshing, with lots of shade which was very nice because it was a sunny day. There was nice live music playing out near our seating which saved the whole eating experience. We were seated right away, but it still took over 20 minutes to take our drink and food order.we ordered the fish and chips, calamari, and two enchiladas. All of the food came a once and was over 30 minutes of waiting. All of the food was warm, nothing was hot. The fish and chips and calamari all looked like it was made out of the frozen food section of a supermarket. No sauce option for the fish and chips, and the calamari was rubbery. The enchiladas (one red, one green) tasted very plain with little to no spice or anything to enjoy. The meal came with beans and rice, which the beans were almost solid and the rice was very dull.Lastly, we had to ask a separate waiter for our check because our waiter disappeared after some time.I'm not one to complain a lot about my reviews, but this place was a huge disappointment. I will not return or recommend this place to anyone.

Wow just wow!!! We visit Old Town often and have eaten at most of the restaurants in the square. We decided to have late lunch early dinner on Thursday 6/13/2024 the waiter was horrible the food was very sad for the price and stone cold. There were 6 adults and 2 kids in our group only the kids said their food was okay. I don't know how this place is even open at this point with so many good Mexican restaurants in the area. Please do yourself a favor and don't eat here.

A little difficult to find, reviews said the best breakfast burritos were made here. After parking twice and walking a block or so, we found Casa de Maria and ordered a couple of chorizo con huevo burritos to go. They send along a few chips and salsa. A little on the pricey side, we were glad the burritos were very tasty. The burritos were large so there was enough to save for a second meal, great rewarmed. The salsa was really good. Easy, free parking just outside the square.

Party of 3 on a Saturday afternoon and we were seated very quickly. We enjoyed some shots, margaritas, tacos and a sampler molcajete. Everything was perfect and I'm still thinking about the food. We sat outside and were treated to some live music. Our waiter was never nice, funny and checked on us a few times. This was a great spot and I would eat here again.

Best chile rellenos thus far ! Wow !!!! I definitely recommend you to order the chile rellenos . Service was great ! No wait to sit down on Mother's Day . My husband loved the surf and turf burrito. Chips and salsa were great also. First time coming here and we will definitely come back ! Fun atmosphere, a singer was playing which was pretty cool . HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Casa de Maria was once my family's absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in all of San Diego. We always looked forward to it for birthdays, special events and always recommended it.Now, we are looking for a new place. The food was fine, but two of our favorite dishes have been sold out multiple times. Our latest visit had the worst service, even so bad that the server never put in an order for a house margarita and we had to go to the bar to get one. Such a disappointment.
