Carver's Steak & Chops

Ok - we just had a FANTASTIC dinner at this restaurant. We arrived early and were seated without any issue by friendly hostesses. Our server Chris was very nice and attentive and he did a great job all night. The menu has great choices and the steaks all come with soup, salad and a choice of side potatoes. The prices are very reasonable with everything included except drinks. The food was outstanding from salad to desert with the steaks cooked perfectly and the best garlic mashed potatoes we ever had. The portions were generous. The plating visual was perfect. The restaurant was packed by 6:00 and I can see why - they ROCK!On a personal note, they treated me to a comped birthday desert of fresh baked apple cinnamon bread which was really delicious.Thank you Carvers, we'll see you again soon!

We decided to stop there after going to a movie on August 6th. We were very happy the wait wasn't long because of their Tuesday special. We ordered the Shrimp scampi, a medium well Chicago ribeye with a baked potato and a Caeser salad. We ordered a bottle of Cabernet when they brought the food. I wasn't expecting much of the wine since the bottle was $16. Her Shrimp scampi way to much salt in it so she didn't eat it at all. The steak was well...well done. I gave in finished my steak because I was hungry. She had a few pieces of my steak that wasn't over cooked. We mentioned this to the waiter and there wasn't even an attempt to take the untouched scampi off the bill. So, we left the horrible bottle of wine and went home. About 2am my stomach was in knots resulting in multiple trips to the bathroom all night. She was up most of the night nauseated as well.I asked her to tell her friends about our experience since they were talking about going on a future Tuesday. I do not recommend.

Service is great. Venue not too bad... but unfortunately the food wasn't all that locals hailed it to be. My expectations were probably set way too high.TL;DR= All in all, it's not a bad deal to fill your belly for a chunk of meat... but i would prefer the ayce korean bbq one block away. We came for the early senior special.. but probably would not returnStarters:Ceasar salad. Acceptable. Nothing to write home about. Clam chowder. Acceptable. Lots of clam chunks amidst mealy potato bits.. overall tastyish.French onion. Very salty and akin to dry packaged onion soup base mix with a ton of onions. Wasn't my favorite. Bread. Similar to cheesecake factory brown bread but dry, hard and stale. Felt like they took cheesecake factory's day old bread to serve. Butter. It was like whipped cream from the can and oil based. Didn't think I would actually complain about butter at a restaurant. This was not butter. Main meal:We came for the prime rib. My standards were definitely too high (think house of prime rib in sf). This was on par w prime rib at a 2 star vegas hotel buffet line. You could chew it... but it didn't taste good. Served with a luke warm thumbnail of au jus.. the meat and the jus needed more seasoning. The creamy horsey sauce was good. Steak pasta. Do not recommend. Baked potatoes were acceptable. Au gratin potatoes were ok but not as good as baked potato.. French fries were the best but definitely cooked from frozen. Great wine list, lots of senior citizens..... and everyone was kind.Sorry folks but this was not the place for me to satiate my prime rib itch. Not a bad meal for the price but not a place I would recommend or return to. 2.5 stars round up for service.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Carver's recently. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside you're transported to such a beautifully opulent steakhouse. The main dining area is full of warm, rich, dark wood paneling, plus a fireplace. I appreciated that there is an adjoining sunroom as well. Much better lighting for photos, etc. Service all around was professional, thoughtful and genuine. There is also a lively bar & lounge if you prefer that scene. Full menu served there.Bread service here is fairly pedestrian. If Black Angus and Outback bread had an offspring, this would be it. I may opt for the cheesy garlic bread loaf next time. The chilled Shrimp Cocktail was excellent. Six plump, succulent shrimps, elegantly presented. My 8 ounce Prime Rib (med-rare) was outstanding. A good enough portion size for me. Star of the plate was the Au Gratin Potatoes. Probably some of the best I've put in my mouth. I think what I appreciated most was the remarkable value here compared to other similar establishments. Early dinner service from 4:30 - 5:15 pm presents a special menu that includes all of the traditional sides, fixin's, etc. Plus no added surcharges, junk fees or unexplained "taxes" on the final bill. The food and vibe here is definitively "fancy steakhouse", but doesn't break the bank. Highly recommended.

Carver's has a class and charm that I enjoy. The trios filet is three 3.5 oz filets each covered with a different classical sauce and it was great. Crystal, at the bar made a crazy good Manhattan. And then she made me another one. It also came with perfectly done fries (perfect) and large and awesome wedge salad, and a side of cheese covered mushrooms (yes please.) Ummhummm - who doesn't want that??

I was seated in the main room late this Sunday evening. Waitress name is CheyenneFood:I ordered the Cheesy Garlic Bread as my Appetizer. For my entree I choose the Prime Rib - 10oz Cut with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and the Clam Chowder.The Prime Rib was tender and well cooked. The creamed horseradish was just right for me. Made me wince ever so slightly. Perfect!The soup was the right temperature. I added the cracked black pepper. Lovely. I enjoyed the Cheesy Garlic Bread. I ordered the cheesecake with Strawberry glaze. At the time of posting, was too full to have sampled dessert yet. Ambiance/Atmosphere:In the main eating area there is a hearth and fireplace. Nice decor. The area has low lighting with candles on the table (real flame), with a light over most tables. Nice. In the attached eating space, there are LED's lighting the room. Very nice. There is instrumental music playing. A bit louder than it should be, I think. But nice compared to nothing playing. Hold My Hand by Stanley Black. Service:Cheyenne did a great job taking care of me. Chris, a busboy caught my attention as he works very hard. Observed him breaking down tables. He is who sat me. Told him that I will be back and would expect to see him as a server. Shared with David/Manager. He shared with me that cooks have been here 15 years. Good turnover here in the restaurant. Great staff.

The Texas Chile Oil Ribeye is so good. What I like about Carvers is the quality of the food without the stuffiness of a steakhouse; you get good steak and you can bring the family. The crème brûlée was also perfection.

My sister and I brought our dad here for Father's Day. I moved to Rancho Bernardo in April 2023 and learned about the place when David, one of the owners (and/or managers), let me go ahead of him in line at the UPS Store one day when we were both returning items to Amazon. I didn't know that I should have made reservations and thought we might be in for a long wait but David remembered me, even though it had been several months since we met. David made sure we were seated quickly.The dining room was comfortable and the fire place was going, but the room temperature was comfortable. The food and service were amazing! My dad had the prime rib, I had the tri tip salad and my sister had a sandwich. I will definitely go back and would like check out and sit in the glassed in room that seemed to be overlooking a park.

I had the 14oz rib eye with a loaded baked potato and cream of broccoli soup. The steak was made well, tasty and the detail per serving was the thing that caught my eye. The chef garnished the steak plate with seasoning so if you felt like it was a little too bland for your taste you could just run your steak over the garnish and waaaalaaa seasoned to your preference. My boyfriend had the bigger ribeye and also enjoyed it as well. The broccoli soup was well made and topped with cheese upon my request. The service was top tier. The inside seating was very nice. The ambiance included a lit real wood burning fireplace. This is a good place for a date night. The restrooms were clean and parking was good. I recommend you make reservations or at minimum call before you go. It was 430pm and the place was at capacity for a Thursday. I recommend a stop by if your in the area. Prices are reasonable for a steak house.

Steak house tucked away behind other stores in Rancho Bernardo. We didn't have to go all the way to La Jolla or Downtown! We didn't make reservations...probably better to but we were immediately seated in the bar area. You can still order food there but the ambiance is "bar style" there. They had different sports on TVs showing. We all ordered prime rib medium rare (besides rare there's no other way anyone should order this cut of meat). Came with our choice of two sides. I got clam chowder (oyster crackers were stale) paid extra for this type of soup and au gratin potatoes. My husband got tomato soup (which was the soup of the day) and garlic mashed potatoes. My daughter got salad and French fries. Ribs came with au jus and horseradish. It was cooked just right! We all enjoyed our prime rib. I forgot to mention we got table bread with yummy honey butter!Cant wait till we come back again soon!
