Carmen's Authentic Mexican Food

Food is awesome consistently. Best Mexican food takeout in San Diego. Imho. Best things there- Shredded chicken tostada with everything Shredded chicken tacos Shredded mixed burrito, add cheese All they are soupsEverything is good, haven't ordered anything I didn't like so far. The service is always friendly, and the owners are very kind, family owned, run and operated. Enjoy talking to them when we eat there. We usually get it to go. They have a lot of regulars who like talking to them as well. Ambience is mostly takeout, but some people like to eat there.. They have probably seven or so tables. A San Diego must! They have really good homemade salsa, but it is hot. I love it though!

My friend can't stop talking about Carmen's. He invited me to a party where he had Carmen's cater the food and I just had to try it again. Carmen's is a local, family-owned restaurant that has been serving amazing food for years. It may be a bit hidden, but the locals all know about it. IYKYK The service is welcoming, like chatting with tias and tios. I ordered my favorite Chile verde, hoping for pork but the special was chicken and it was fantastic - just the right blend of verde sauce, veg and cheese. The refried beans were exceptional and the rice was a perfect complement. And those chips were addictively good. I had to take my food to go, otherwise I would have definitely gotten some chips and guacamole. Can't wait to go back!

Their Enchiladas Verdes was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Sadly I don't live in SD but if I did I would absolutely be a regular. My food came out piping hot, pretty quick, and was only $15 for all this food. Truly authentic and delicious! They told me the red enchiladas are also really good.

What a great and affordable neighborhood find! Thanks to my neighbors who have been coming to Carmen's for years and now introducing me to this place I'm going to be a regular. The chips were crispy and tasty with a dusting of chili powder on them (made all the difference)! I had the two taco (chicken) plate and the chicken was white boneless and shredded with great flavor. The taco shells were made fresh and crisp with just a touch of oil and warmth on them... loved that. If you want an affordable, simple, tasty no frills, mexican lunch/dinner this is a great spot. Very basic and simple decor and furniture, but great and affordable food. I'm sold.

The Mexican food here is authentically made fresh and it tastes like home. Their dishes like rolled tacos, carne asada and enchiladas are much better and delicious than any regular taco shop. Everything from the guac to the sauces were delicious. The locally owned business has friendly, caring service. They are so nice here. The store has good seating and is warm, welcoming.

I have heard about Carmen's for years. I happened to be in the neighborhood and was craving some Mexican food. I stopped by and was greeted righted away. I love Chilaquiles and saw it on the menu. It was some of best Chilaquiles I've ever had. The eggs which I believe makes the dish were cooked perfectly.

Ordered the potato rolled tacos and the chips and guacamole. Both were good-I do think their rolled tacos are above average- the shells are crispy and bigger than your average sized rolled taco. The guacamole was phenomenal. I am giving 3 stars because the restaurant itself seemed a little geriatric- But the food was worth going. Just an overall solid three star experience-in a very positive way! Oh yeah- the horchata was ridiculously good too!!

Great food, reasonable price, and friendly staff. Went for a surf and turf with garlic shrimp and a California burrito. Both were fantastic. Carne asada was flavorfull, shrimp was perfectly cooked and tender, and the tortilla was nice and toasted.

The food was decent. The service was interesting. I wanted to know what was in one of their burritos and the person working there didn't know. What's in the burrito also wasn't listed on menu. Instead of helping me figure out what's in the burrito they asked me what I wanted....Strange to not know what's in your burrito or to not even ask the kitchen.
