My friend and I stopped by here for a snack as we were in the area. We ordered some egg tarts, a red bean bun & a hot dog bun. Everything was affordable, but it is cash only! I enjoyed the red bean bun a lot. It wasn't fluffy and not too sweet. My friend enjoyed the hot dog bun. We tried the egg tart as is and it was good. When also tried it warmed up, and it was better. I would definitely recommend and come back when in the area!

Cash only at this cozy family bakery! Their pastries are amazing and delicious. I especially love the ham and cheese bun and buttercream cake (creamy, familiar flavor). I'll be back for those curry beef pastry and pork roll because I was drooling at those through the case. Love that this Chinese bakery has been here for 30-some years, I hope they stay open forever!

I got a Hot Dog Roll and Small slice of Butter Cake. The Owner was not at the counter when I walked in. He was in the kitchen. His Chinese friend called him. He disappeared after I got my pastries. So customer service might be lacking but the Prices are so reasonable. He sells drip coffee too. There isn't much variety as 85 Deg. But 85 is often closed. They did not bother to open during this Snow storm. The icing is less sweet than Amer. Cakes. Costco Cake was the worst when I had to it for Company Bday parties. Cake House is boarded up, but open every day.

Where I'll usually stop for coconut buns when I'm in the area a friend at work loves them. I need to try one the savory pastries next time. They were out of the regular coconut buns so got the large to cut up for friends at work. And pick up an egg tart for myself. One of the nicest owners told me the bun was still warm. Cash only.... oh

Custom ordered a 8" durian cake from Cake House. The lady helping us was very nice and explained exactly how they would make it to set expectations. It's like a traditional Asian fruit cake, but they whip the mousse with frozen durian. The durian taste isn't very overpowering, but you definitely taste it. They were able to make it within a day.

Cake House is a classic Chinese bakery in the ID and I have been going here for years. They make a lot of standard Chinese fruit cakes, but my favorite is the napoleon cake with puff pastry in it (which I order annually for my birthday). The cake is only good day of before the puff pastry gets soggy, but it's the perfect balance of light cake, fruit, and flaky/slightly crunchy puff pastry! I've seen the cake sold by the slice on occasion, but always make sure to order ahead to ensure I get my cake for my birthday.

I will start off by saying that I am truly spoiled when it comes to Chinese pastries and bakeries as a Vancouverite so when I visit Chinese bakeries in other cities, I'm definitely a tough critic. This place is in the heart of Chinatown and they have a wide selection of Chinese pastries and cakes. They had your typical bbq pork bun, coconut bun, sponge cake, Swiss rolls, and beef curry buns. Like most American portions, their items were big! Much bigger than what I'm used to at home. I needed something quick and something that would survive my train ride back to Vancouver so I opted for a bbq pork bun and a sponge cake. The two items came to $8.35 USD and that price hurt because that is significantly more expensive than what I'd pay at home for these two items despite these two items being bigger than what I'd get at home. The sponge cake was decent, a little dryer than what I'm used to and not as flavorful but in a pinch, this would do. The bbq pork bun was salty but the bbq pork was tender. I felt a bit ripped off with the filling since there wasn't much in there so it was more bun than anything. Service was quick and it looks like your typical no frills Chinese bakery with an unassuming store front. And like your typical Asian business, they take cash only.
