"Great friendly & fast service! Fresh n tasty. The salmon teriyaki was nice n crispy n perfectly seasoned. The shrimp tempura was super crispy n perfect w the sauce. It's a small place but it packs bug taste."
"Ambiance - 5 starsCustomer service -5 starsAppetizers (chicken karaage and hand rolls) - 5 starsRamen itself - 3 starsMine the Umami ramen didn't state it would contain Chasu, the menu description was "Umami means "essence of deliciousness" Flavored egg, scallion, kikurage, red onion." But it came with huge portion of in my case, unwelcome chasuI did feel the appetizers were superior to the ramen itself, my bf agreed but our dining companions who reside in Boston felt their Karami ramen bowls were 5 star worthyTo each their own.i would come back for apps and my bf for the Sapporo on tap and friendly service!"

Visit Restaurant Page"This grab-and-go sushi stall is located inside of Hmart Burlington. They have a good amount of prepared sushi and grilled fish in containers in the front along with bottled beverages. And then the rest, the menu is posted on the wall for hot or cold dishes freshly made upon order. Because it's attached to a grocery store, parking depends on how busy it is. But I would travel here during odd hours so I haven't had any issues.Una-Ju- Broiled eel on a bed of rice. Side of seaweed salad, crab stick, yellow pickled radish. Not a fan of crab sticks just randomly inserted but everything else was pretty good!Overall Service: When I am hungry, I tend to stare at the menu for a while and the staff here were very patient with me. I made my order and they let me know the estimated time it will be done. Which is great for perusing the bakery next to them while the food was being prepared and when I came back, they handed the bag to me. Easy peasy!"
"First time in for me today. We tried to stop in another day but they were closed for vacation last time. Glad we got to catch them open this time around!First their menu is definitely got a lot going on. Sushi ramen Thai, kind of overwhelming at first.Pricing is on the higher side for rolls and dishes imo. The chicken skins. : fried well, crispy, but fried unseasoned. Asked server for some dipping sauce and salt and it was good; server quickly got me something for it. Probably wouldn't start with that again next time. The Hokkaido don was what the lady ordered she said it was fresh and yummy comparable to Tora's bowls. They ran out of sea urchin and let us sub it out for otoro. That was cool of them.I got the spicy basil with crispy chicken. Flavor was good! As i was expecting for the dish. The portion of chicken was a whole cutlet cut up into strips, a lot of onions, peppers and basil leaves.Rice doesn't come with the dish so added a side of white rice. I would note, the sauce was super watery, I'm used to having a bit thicker of a sauce for this type of dish but again, flavor was good! The Thai ice tea came in a nice glass, definitely on the creamy side flavor wise, a bit watered down but enjoyable nonetheless!Probably will be back to try some other dishes. The space is open, plenty of seating!"
"If there's one thing Boston is lacking, it's omakase spots. Compared to NYC, we just don't have that many. Few and far between, I am always excited when I find one. Enter the brand new spot, Wa Shin. The host/manager Matt was super friendly. He was very polite, and is the expert on their alcohol. He can tell you all about the drinks and sake and suggest something to your liking. Absolutely ask Matt for guidance on your beverage selection. Chef Sky's omakase concept is not to be missed. The setup is roughly 12 counter seats if I'm not mistaken, but the area dedicated to the sushi chefs is huge. Many places I've been to in NY, the area for the chefs to work is very small, or smaller by comparison to Wa Shin. This feels like the design was conceived to spotlight the experience behind the counter. This feels much more authentic.A beautiful interior, and limited seating, you're really getting a premium experience. The price does correspond to that level of offering as well. Seatings are Monday thru Saturday, 5pm, 7pm, and 9pm, as of now. It did run up right to the end though. The next seating is already waiting for you to be done. Expect to spend the full 2 hours there, which is awesome, as you're not rushed. The omakase selection is pretty awesome. The menu is expertly curated by Chef Sky. The Uni is from Hokkaido. The salmon from New Zealand. The fish is all sourced from hand selected destinations. The scallops were so sweet. All the courses were VERY fresh and fine tuned to please your taste buds. Chef offers purple Uni as well. The shell is purple, so the Uni itself just looks very much like regular Uni, but it's so delicious. The aged tuna was so good! Fatty tuna melts in your mouth. The chefs use a kind of scoring technique with the knife in some of the pieces, which makes them much more tender. They care alot about the preparation, which is a tribute to Chef Sky. The omkase experience is just that... an experience. I've been to $70 omakase in NYC and they crank out the courses in an hour flat with little care. This is a premium offering with premium fish and hand crafted courses with sushi chef expertise."
"Don't let their random/wide-ranging menu deter you! I really do like Le's but you just have to know what to order. Their sushi isn't anything crazy but my go-to is their bun cha (vermicelli bowls), a generous portioned mix of noodles, pork, veggies, and a spring roll all to be tossed with fish sauce and crushed peanuts. The seating is primarily large tables (half of them are booths) and I've never had to wait (which could be a plus or minus depending on your perspective). Lastly, I do appreciate their fast and friendly service!"
"Normally I don't like to do too much for my birthday, but my sweet Christopher is AMAZING and the BESTEST! He took me here for an early birthday dinner & Oishii's is always a great time. Tonight, we got the hamachi appetizer & salmon on fire, 3 maki rolls (toro truffle, for the love of salmon, & crunch mango), two entrees (chilean sea bass & squid ink noodles), & of course, had to end our meal with the lovely coconut sphere (my favorite!). We were not the biggest fan of asparagus or cucumber rolls last time we were here so we decided to skip out on those rolls. Everything tasted absolutely delicious per usual & cannot recommend Oishii's enough for sushi! Their menu is a bit on the pricey side BUT very generous portions and not skimpy like other high end restaurants. Dark ambiance here. Don't be shy to use flash for pictures hahaha. The toro truffle is a MUST, as well as the coconut sphere. 10/10 ;)"
"The person answering the phone is so rude. The food was good. The service not as attentive as I would have liked, just ok. The place is nicely decorated."
"Consistently good! That's how I would describe Super Fusion. It's a no frills joint. You think of takeout sushi, and this place comes to mind. Fifteen minutes and your order is ready. We've ordered multiple times now. I don't believe they have an online ordering system, but it's super easy to call and place your order, takes a minute at the most. We've had the spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and a couple other rolls - they've all been tasty. A special mention of their vegetarian roll, the Hawaii one, which has mango, banana, avocado, cucumber, and cream cheese. Don't knock it till you've tried it! And thanks to the many many Yelp reviews recommending the Beni Toro Banana, we ordered it and enjoyed it. I never thought salmon and banana fried in a ball, drizzled with sauce could be so good - and especially that sauce, yum.The next time you want a quiet night in, watching a movie, and you wonder "sushi night?", Super Fusion is your place!"
"Really yummy comforting food. Got the seafood tempura roll, yaki udon, and chicken katsu curry. Everything was really tasty and the portion size was good. Tons of veggies in the curry which I liked. Other katsu curries are just the sauce. The veggies were still crunchy but completely cooked which was nice to add a texture contrast. The yaki udon was my favorite. And the seafood tempura roll was delicious and huge. Would definitely eat here again."
"Sushi Man is the spot to go for casual sushi in the Newton/Chestnut Hill area! Their sushi is quality AND quantity is generous. It was my first time coming here today and was definitely not disappointed. We ordered two appetizers to start: agedashi tofu & chicken karaga. Both were 10/10! Each table has low sodium soy sauce, regular soy sauce, & shoyo for dipping. Tasty and not overdone. For sushi, we got an order of salmon sashimi (comes with 2pc/order), sunset maki, caterpillar maki, and dynamite maki. At first, I wasn't sure if the amount we ordered was enough but when the apps came, I was already feeling pretty stuffed haha. Definitely generous portions here AND I AM ALL FOR IT! All the rolls tasted super fresh and you can tell they do not skimp at all with the ingredients for each roll. Everything was amazing and my favorites were the dynamite roll & sunset roll... hands down. Our server was also AMAZING. Loved her! Very sweet and kept coming by to check in on us & refilled our waters. Each meal comes with fresh oranges at the end. The oranges were juicy and sweet. Parking: They've got a parking lot to park at with lots of spaces available. Overall, I had an amazing first meal here at Sushi Man tonight and would most definitely be back SOON. If you're ever in the Chestnut Hill/Newton area, you must try Sushi Man!"
"Definitely one of my favorite sushi places considering I do not eat seafood or meat. It has selected vegetarian options, but in my opinion they are pretty good compared to other places in town. Most of the locations are small and cozy, except for the Boston location. Parking is hard to find considering the location. The service is good but if you sit upstairs and they are busy, it can take a little bit before someone takes your order. My favorite items to order are-Miso soupYasai GyozaSweetie Roll - my favoriteHawaii Roll - 2nd favoriteOrder the gyoza sauce instead of soya sauce and have your sushi with that. the sauce is delicious."

My friend and I went here for dinner a few months ago. Luckily, we were able to find metered parking near the restaurant. For appetizer, we got the chicken karaage which came in 4 large pieces with a shishito pepper. The chicken was actually pretty juicy and savory.I got the umami ramen which came with a half soft boiled egg, thinly sliced pork, scallions, red onions, and wood ears. The ramen was ok but not a wow.We also got some yuzu scallop and unagiinu hand roll. The yuzu scallop roll came with cod roe and scallop sashimi with yuzu sauce. The unagiinu one came with eel and egg. Both hand rolls were really good and fresh.

I finally got to try raman! Stopped in here for a quick lunch break- spied raman on the menu. I ordered the spicy raman- choice of pork or beef; I chose pork. Got a beeper and it was ready in about 7 minutes. Raman came with a small dish of kimchee, which I did not care for. So the raman was ok. It did not blow me away. Not much pork. Came with a half an egg & wood ear mushroom. $13 lunch.

OKAY I came back for the jumbo sushi again and this is A LOT better than what I was served last time. Just compare the 2 photos and the recent photo is a lot more presentable, the fish thicker, and they had sea urchin and salmon belly this time. Now this is something I enjoyed 100%The tako wasabi app is raw octopus in a wasabi sauce, super fresh and a bit spicy. The octopus is a little crunchy and it is an unfamiliar texture to any other fish. The uni ikura don is so decadent and the uni is so fresh! The uni melts in your mouth and it is so delicious. The cooked salmon and egg bowl is incredibly flavorful. The marinade on the salmon is sweet and savoury. The salmon is cooked to perfect, super moist and juicy. This is a great menu item for those who don't enjoy raw fish. The aburi tori roll is interesting. The toro on top is torched so it gives a nice kick of smokey flavor. There is mango inside so there's a mix of smokey, sweet, savory. I came around dinner time and they dimmed the lights so the ambiance was cool and relaxed. It was a busy hour and there were lots of big parties. But overall a very casual and social place. Super happy that I came back again, I have a better impression of them now.

I'm speechless. Wa Shin is that good! The omakase rivals the best in NYC with the freshness of the fish and the exceptional ambiance and service. It ain't cheap but for the caliber of food, you are more than getting your money's worth. I love when a chef focuses on highlighting the natural flavors of the fish. I don't need a lot of fancy bells and whistles, aka going overboard with the sauces and garnishes, and it's a thin line between overzealous creativity and one or two add-on's that really make the piece sing. The painstaking eye for detail is apparent from the wood used for the counter (hinoki, imported from Japan) to the staff making sure your drink is always filled to the little bowl of house-made pickled ginger (with a tinge of yuzu) is never empty. I noticed Chef Sky would adapt immediately to customers' preferences - if someone didn't like shrimp, he switched it out for another fish; if someone else preferred less wasabi, he made sure to modulate. The chefs also constantly made tiny scores in the fish for more depth of flavor, especially for the pieces getting torched. I could go on and on about what an incredible meal this was. The rice - temperature, coherence, taste - was perfect. From start (an oyster topped with uni) to finish (lychee sorbet), everything reflected a commitment to taste that you wouldn't expect anything less from someone who was mentored by Nakazawa himself. My favorites:- King salmon. Insanely buttery. Best piece of salmon I've ever had. - Tamago. Like an eggy cake. If you've watched Jiro, you know that scene of Nakazawa trying to perfect the tamago and this was all I could think about. - Medium-fatty tuna with caviar. - Eel: this isn't the eel you see in sushi spots where it looks a little too perfect and is drowning in sweet soy sauce. This eel was a lighter color and, yes, cliched as it sounds, melted in my mouth. I will say that a lot of the pieces were pretty light and clean, with only a minimal amount of sauce or garnish. I walked out feeling the perfect level of satiety after 18 courses. To top it all off, Chef Sky is a hoot. Can't say enough good things. 5/5! 10/10 A++++

I hadn't been here in a few months and was pleasantly surprised at the updates they had made to the dining space when we came here for dinner on Valentine's Day. New seats, dark-stained wood tables, and table decor. The sushi prep area moved to the ordering station / kitchen entrance to create space for a nicer bar area. Food options are still the same, although actual menus are nicer now (printed on card stock vs the old plastic sheathed menus). I got my usual grilled shrimp on vermicelli, and we also ordered sushi and the rare beef pho- all very good. Restaurant was filled with diners that night and lots of takeout orders, nice to see.

Sushi was solid, really enjoyed the crispy rice. The flaming salmon was a great visual presentation. The lobster rangoons were good but I would have preferred a more traditional sweet and sour sauce. The chocolate cake was good but it's nothing I haven't had before. The sphere dessert was cool to look at, but it was better to look at than eat.

The setting is one of a kind and unexpected. Super spacious inside and had lots of private rooms for you to reserve. The private rooms definitely make your meal feel more intimate and quiet. We mostly ordered sushi while we were here. The cuts are super thick and tastes fresh. The wait staff were also super friendly as we were celebrating a birthday and was able to cut the cake there. Food was overall a little pricey but I think you're mostly paying for the ambiance.

My boyfriend and I come here very often and each time we receive great service & hospitality! If you're around the area you must try it!! I drive 25 min and totally worth it each time :) def recommend their crab ragoons and beef chow foon!"
"I tried both Avana's Avocado Salad $4.95 and Kani Salad $5.95 to go and found them both fresh and refreshing, but that the Kani salad was inaccurately portrayed on some online ordering options, including the one found on Avana Sushi 2's own website. The Kani salad is described as Crabstick, cucumber, avocado, mango in a dressing. There was no avocado for sure, and probably no cucumber. The mango was sparse. It was mainly dressed shredded kani on a bed of lettuce."
"Came here with a few friends who was craving sushi for dinner. After some casual day drinking and catching up we needed a place for a late dinner. They close at 1 AM. As we got there at 10 o'clock there was a decent rush around 1130 midnight. We all ordered the sushi which was delicious and super fresh. Drinks for a little bit on the sugar side so I stopped at two. Great amendment was I was able to switch to Jen instead of vodka for the wakikki drink"
"This restaurant is nestled in a basic strip mall in the center of Winthrop. The decor is simple, black high top tables with booths line the side across from the bar, and low top tables like the opposite. We were greeted immediately and sat in a high top booth. The menu is extensive with several different types of options. We chose the shrimp volcano which was a bit underwhelming, the seaweed salad was tasty, the Winthrop at the beach sushi roll was delicious, and not pictured is the spicy cashew plate with chicken. The breading on the chicken was soggy and fell right off. That was something we read in other reviews so be aware. The drinks were good and service was excellent. Would try other menu options!"
"TL;DR - Very solid food, nothing remarkable, but hits most of the right notes. Service needs refining. Went here with a group of people (there were 6 of us) and ordered the Spicy Tuna Rangoon for an appetizer and for Davis Square Maki and Mexican Roll for mains. Also had some green tea.The Spicy Tuna Rangoons were definitely an interesting spin on Crab Rangoons (one of my weaknesses). In terms of filling, they definitely did not skimp on the meat, as they were filled entirely with spicy tuna, and not 98% or more of cream cheese! (Can't say this is the case here, but in other places it has been known to happen). Nothing remarkable in terms of flavors, but pleasant. The dough was not immediately out of the fryer, and I personally would have liked it a little crisper, but this wasn't glaring. Also possible they wanted to wait until more dishes in my party's order were ready. The sauce provided was pleasant as well, a spicy mayo, possibly? Sushi rolls also did not skimp on the meat! Fish itself seemed to be of high quality. They were definitely tasty, but unremarkable. Some of those touches which would service to distinguish them were lost for me. For instance: the Mexican Roll was supposed to have: "avocado wrapped with tabasco sauce", but I don't recall that distinct Tabasco flavor. Possible they were referring to the sauce used on top, but if memory serves, I would not call it Tabasco sauce. The tea wasn't the tastiest green tea on the planet, but for a cold night with unlimited refills, I will take it!Then came the service: it was fast and efficient, but there were moments of unprofessionalism which made the experience less than stellar. I realize this is not the caliber of restaurant where servers wear tuxedos with bow ties, but service is part of the experience nonetheless. A couple examples: When handing food to someone further down the table, the server's shirt came uncomfortably close to hugging my food. When refilling water, some spilled on the table, truly no big deal, she apologized, we said it's okay, but the not miniscule spill wasn't cleaned up (nor even extra napkins brought over). Finally, a can of iced tea ordered fell on the floor, and thankfully didn't burst. She apologized, and served it to my friend anyways. I would say to bring a new can in any case, but especially in the midst of a pandemic."
"Surprised this has such low rating! It's not the best sushi in town but it's pretty generous for the price. Usually sushi places around here will engineer these tiny little cylinders of fish and charge the standard $8-$15 for a roll, but Blue Fuji I think didn't get the memo and is still making pretty chonky makis. It's not the best I've had, but it hits that sushi spot. The staff is also pretty happy and accommodating, the place kind of has this low-key vibe. It might help that the times I've been here it's been pretty empty, but honestly I like that versus the insanity that places like Fuji get up to.Generally a good place to go for sit down or take out, kind of confused why this would have such a low rating. I thought by serving sushi and not poisoning your customers your default was four stars."
"I will never get tired of coming to Maruichi's! It is located across the street from their market, in Brookline. **Maruichi Select is their cafe + food & Maruichi Food&Deli is their grocery store market**Their matcha is incredible and superior to most places in the Boston area. I used to frequent here at least once a week to get their matcha. Today, I decided to try their seasonal mango matcha iced latte and it did not disappoint at all! It was super refreshing and is the perfect drink to sip on, on a nice summer hot day. The mango purée paired well with the matcha and I would most definitely get this again! I actually went in here twice today haha because I peeped that they had matcha milk jam in stock, which I have been searching for a store that had it in the area but was unsuccessful for over a year. So I was a happy camper today when I was able to locate it in store! I can't wait to try it with strawberries and on toast. Their onigiris are tasty & HUGE; if you need spicy mayo, they have plenty of condiments available with plastic sauce cups.I have tried their chirashis bowls before in the past and highly recommend. Fish is high quality. Great cafe place to visit to grab a coffee or matcha and a snack (maybe even lunch because everything here is super yum!). They've got plenty of seating here and are open till 9pm usually. Parking: Lots of parking available, mostly meters. Parking spots available on the street or can park in the parking lot by the back entrance of the maruichi food & deli market, across the street."
"Not sure why the ratings are so low here. My experience was very nice and the food was tasty. The best time to come here is when they have their lunch specials! The prices are great and portion size is generous. I ordered a spicy beef cold udon, and it was like a tan-tan noodle but with udon noodles. The noodles were nice and chewy and I felt happy with the amount of beef I got. The sauce was great! Service was excellent as well. Haven't tried the AYCE yet.. maybe next time!"
"One of my favorite sushi places in Boston!!! True hidden gem. The ambiance and decor of Purple Shell is a bit lacking; when you walk in it doesn't look like anything special. The food (quality AND presentation) is what blows this place out the water. Ignore the LARGE menu, complete with pictures (the combo of those 2 usually scare me off). It is easier to use the online menu (than the paper version) because all 93748595 food items are neatly organized. I ordered the pan fried pork gyoza, crab rangoons, the fire salmon, torched toro maki roll, and a bunch of pieces of the signature nigiri (torched wagyu, double tuna, torched salmon belly). Every.single.item. was DELICIOUS. The fish was all SO fresh; tasted like it was caught the morning of. The gyoza and the crab rangoons were perfectly lightly fried and crunchy. Each piece of nigiri had a pop of flavor, the flavor combinations blended so well. I ended up ordering doubles and triples of the nigiri. The service was friendly, and helpful. Our waitress gave us several recommendations and informed us of her favorites. She was always around if we wanted to order more food, but was not lingering or nagging. I really loved Purple Shell and would highly recommend to everyone! Love love love this restaurant!!"
"Loved it so much that I came twice in one week. Everything is freshly made. I love that they have pre-made sushi options for quick pick-up but if you don't see something that you like or they are out they will make it for you on the spot if you wait. My favorite is the avocado dragon sushi roll. The fish is fresh and the rice is fluffy and delicate and avocado is soft and creamy. The spicy mayo is perfect. Service is extremely pleasant and attentive. Restaurant is clean and has a spacious dinning area."
"Who doesn't love a great restaurant that is in or close to their Hotel? I know I do!After staying at The Godfrey Hotel (right next door) we had the pleasure of eating here which was both convenient and excellent. We could head right up to our hotel room afterward. RUKA is part of the same restaurant group that owns Yvonnes, Coquette, Mariel, and Lolita to name a few. It is a Peruvian-Asian style cuisine that offers tapas-style dishes and some larger portions as well. For a Sunday evening, they were jam-packed so we sat at their sushi bar. The menu is broken down into categories such as Chilled, Hot, Makimoto (sushi), and Wok. I liked this since some of these dishes can be overwhelming and having it outlined like this gave me some knowledge of what to expect. Their Cocktail List is amazing and offers a little bit of everything for everyone. I decided to stick to one of their Sake to pair with some of our food. I wish they offered Sake Flights but maybe down the road and after reading my review they will:)We shared a few dishes: Sesame Noodles, Chicken Fried Rice, and Fried Chicken. All were excellent and shareable which I liked. The Fried Rice was the only item that we couldn't finish. I highly recommend coming here for date night since the ambiance and vibe is super sexy. I can't wait to come back and try some of their other menu items."
"This place was a hidden gem; even their entrance felt hidden. We came here after dinner to drink; we ordered three rounds. We tried Rio to Tokyo, San Juan to Hanoi, Lima to Dubai, Pennies del cielo, and Guavaleada. It was interesting that they mixed flavors from the departure city to the final destination into a drink. All drinks are presented beautifully, and you really can taste the alcohol. Since we both can't drink without snacks, even though we had dinner less than half an hour ago, we ordered the wagyu temaki, snow crab temaki, negi toro temaki, and yuzu rotate temaki. The quality of the ingredients was fresh, and there was not much rice. The menu is limited; don't come here if you expect a full meal unless you want to eat a poke bowl and/or are willing to pay a lot more just for small bites.I am willing to return if I am around the area for drinks and small bites."
"Cute little noodle place that offers some delicious dishes. Service was quick and the servers were so nice and attentive. The place was minimal and very clean.I really enjoyed my sweet pork don and my friends were elated over their delicious noodle dishes! My dish was filling and really affordable. Excited to try more of their items next time."
"Super fresh and melts in your mouth! Look at all that fish roe on my sushi! Presentation : 8/10 Super stylish with the black plates and flower!I love the way everything laid out and the sushi is topped off beautifully. Wasabi is shaped like poop though heheTaste: 8/10 Creamy avocado and fresh fish in the salmon avocado roll! I love the torched salmon too but a little too well done for me. I love how generous they are with the fish roe on top! Overall, I give it a 8/10. It is pricy but for a fine Asian cuisine I think it lives up to the name!"
"I've eaten here again several times and decided my favorite sushi roll is the Paradise Maki, yum!"
"Great food on Newbury st! They serve Omakase nigiris 13pc for dinner, 11pc for lunch at $38 and $37 respectively. Dinner comes with miso soup and lunch comes with miso soup and salad. Both come with matcha mochi which were freshly made and so delicious! Fish pieces were not as vibrant in color compared most other good sushi restaurants but that might be because they choose fish without (much or any! coloring added. I'm not entirely sure. Fish options for the omakase dinner included sea bream, ikura, uni, squid (one of the best i've had!), unagi, salmon, fatty tuna, regular tuna, marinated tuna, yellowtail, jumbo shrimp, scallop and omelet. Rice was also not too much which I appreciate. Also ordered the potato salad which is one their signature. Comes in a bed of fried onion. Potato salad is made with boiled eggs, pickled vegetables. Not too salty or sweet. Service was wonderful. Our server was very kind and friendly. Tailored to our needs well! The interior is a mix of modern, class and Japanese styles. Very clean space and comforting yet upbeat music."
"Formerly New Sushi, Kyoaji sits at the corner of Brighton Ave and Chester Street with red awnings. I ordered takeout poke bowls on a weekday for dinner and service was fairly quick. The pickup was quick and the layout of the restaurant is the same with a few small tables if you're dining in. They have QR codes to order from their menu at each table. I created my own poke bowl and got tuna, shrimp tempura with avocado, seaweed salad, corn, edamame with yazu sauce and sesame seeds. They don't have a surcharge for avocado and the bowls are reasonably priced for the amount of food given. At first glance, it doesn't seem like much protein and just a lot of sides, but it's definitely a filling poke bowl. The shrimp tempura was still crispy and there was a lot of sauce in my bowl. If you order from their website there's 3 different offers 10% off your first purchase, $3 off $20 or more, or 15% of $65 or more. They're still using old New Sushi bowls, but they have their Kyoaji stickers on the top of the containers. They also have ramen, sushi (sushiritos), and appetizers on their menu. Overall, a good place to grab a bite to eat in Allston."
"The Internet seems to have a very positive opinion about Yamato. After walking by and having a mental bookmark for over a decade, it was finally time to stop in. I blame Reddit - plus I had a nearby interview that got out just as lunch was starting. Off the bat: $24.50 for AYCE sushi lunch is a great deal, especially in downtown Boston. However, $25 can get you all sorts of delicious lunches, and I'm not sure Yamato has gone in my Rolodex of places to revisit. I do think it is worth a second chance though... only maybe for dinner.I had the opportunity to try:- Crab Rangoons- Brighton Maki- Volcano Maki- Salmon & Tuna Sushi- Salmon Skin Hand RollThe Crab Rangoons were alright. The filling was A-OK, however the fried wonton was on the thicker and chewier side for my taste. The Brighton Maki was a bit unsure. Rather than having a spicy tuna filling, in this case it was the exterior topping! Inside was avocado and white fish. Flavor-wise, this role wasn't much to write home about. I found the pieces a little inconsistent as well (more or less spicy tuna topping, smaller or larger bit of white fish, etc). Texture-wise, the large amount of spicy tuna, rice, and avocado led to a mouthfeel that hid the white fish. Overall though, pretty average: I'm glad I ordered it, but not necessarily something I'd order on future visits.Something I would skip on future visits is is the Volcano Maki. This one contained...cheese? I'm not sure, but it was a simple spicy tuna maki topped with a seemingly cheese-bound "torched scallop, tobiko, scallion, crab meat and mushroom mixture." Points for creativity, however seems like something I would make when trying to empty my fridge pre-vacation. It did not work here in my opinion. The salmon skin hand roll was very good. This one had balanced textures and ingredients, and allowed the quality of the rice to shine. While I deviation from my usual eel hand roll, this is something I would happily order again (though maybe in the eel variety). Also a favorite were the salmon and tuna sushi (nigiri, I suppose?). The simplicity is what works here. High quality rice and fresh fish, plus a little soy sauce makes for a winning combination. Finally, the service was friendly and attentive, no complaints there. The location was generally pleasant, but felt a little musty, and the mirrors could use a good wipe down. Thus, while the rice and fish are fresh and tasty, the execution could use some work overall. As such, I have the agree with Yelp's 3-star average, and disagree with those friends and Redditors who extol Yamato's virtues."
"Positively the worst takeout order I have ever had in my life! I ordered the tofu pad thai but it bore no resemblance whatsoever to this menu description. Just some noodles with lots and lots of onions. Absolutely horrible."
"I came to sushi express for the $20 (can't remember exact price) 3 roll sushi combo that comes with a side salad, miso soup, three 6 piece rolls, and soda. The sushi is very average for the three roll combo where I got the spicy crab, spicy tiny and spicy salmon. All the sushi had a similar orange inside with a deep fried part. I could not necessarily taste the fish quality as there was the crispy/fried taste. The miso soup, salad, and soda was decent. This place when I went was quite empty but great for a quick in and out meal for a good price"
"Interesting Thai and sushi bar(?j. We stuck to the Thai menu and enjoyed the delicious food. We had the crispy chicken, panang curry chicken, and Thai basil vegetables. Everything was good and I particularly liked the crispy chicken dish. Service was good and the vibe is of a local neighborhood place."
"Xoxo Sushi Bar is brand new on route 9 in Chestnut Hill. The inside is modern and elegant, with bar seating and limited tables. That means you should get yourself a reservation now! I predict this fusion spot is going to be very busy once fully open this week. They have music playing throughout, which gives a very trendy city feel to it. The lighting is subdued which adds even more to the vibe. This is your ideal date place in the area for incredible cocktails and food. But heck, bring your friends too. Service was killer. Jose was my waiter and on point with every thing. He had the food coming out steadily and was always highlighting the chefs favorite dishes. Gold star to Jose for stellar service. The bar area looks cool. They had a full staff. Although I had table seating, I still ordered a signature cocktail. You are guaranteed to find a drink you will fall in love with. On to the main event... the food. The nigiri omakase option delivered fresh cuts of prime fish. So good. The chef nailed the rice flavor and ratio of rice to fish. These things are commonly missed at some places, so the chefs here know what they're doing. Grilled skirt steak on skewers was divine. Hokkaido scallops were sweet and succulent. I ate my way through the menu. Fried rock shrimp provided a bit of a kick and definitely filled me up before I could order some more handrolls. The handrolls I did get to were so perfect though. Loved the negi toro and the spicy tuna. If I didn't fill up on all the other food I would have ordered more. Definitely don't skip the handrolls. Jose talked me into dessert. I tried to refuse but the man has a way of persuading people to get this fruity, delicious concoction. To be honest, I don't even remember what it was, he was just saying so many words that sounded like dessert paradise and my mind drifted into bliss. What that was i don't know, but it was so good. This is an easy 5 stars. I hope my fellow Yelpers fall in love with it too. I highly recommend checking it out. The chef is clearly skilled and the food is prepared with passion. Tip. The parking lot is tiny but if you turn on to the street before or after the entrance, you can access free street parking behind it. That's your best bet since route 9 isn't great for street parking."
"Yamato is decent AYCE sushi with appetizers, entrees, and dessert. Since it's a buffet, don't expect the best quality. I usually go here for their dinner service and order mostly sashimi, especially the tuna, white tuna, salmon, and mackerel. For appetizers, I love their shumai (fried or steamed), crab rangoon, agedashi tofu, and fried tempera. I would skip the fried calamari and spring rolls since they are frozen supermarket quality. I would also pass on their soups (udon and ramen). I like their salmon teriyaki and steak. For rolls, the rainbow, dragon, yellowtail & scallion, salmon & avocado, philly, and spicy salmon are some of my favorites. For dessert, I would pass on the fried banana and get the fried ice cream (only comes in vanilla) and regular ice cream (comes in green tea, red bean, or vanilla). The sashimi is good quality for a buffet. Their sushi rolls are padded with a fair amount of rice so I wouldn't order too many.I recommend ordering the most with the first round because they tend to drop items or give you less pieces with future rounds. I've also noticed that the food takes longer to come after the first two rounds so re-order early. The service is typical for an Asian restaurant and you will need to flag your server down from time to time.As fast as food waste goes, as long as it's reasonable, you won't be charged, but I have seen them charge items a la carta pricing if alot of sashimi or rolls are left uneaten. There is a 2 hour seating limit after you sit down. Currently, lunch (till 3pm) is $23.00 M-F and $26 on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. Dinner is $31.99 Sunday to Thursday and $33.99 on Friday, Saturday, and holidays. There are some dinner exclusive items such as sashimi, sushi combos, dessert, and a few entree items."
