Joseph's Sub Shop & Pizza

After living in Boston for the last two years, I've been here countless times, most recently on a Tuesday night. Despite having a teeny space on the border of JP, Mission Hill, and Brookline, the owner has leveraged the space well - while I recommend take out for most cases, there is some cute counter seating that looks out the window on to South Huntington.The owner usually runs front of house, and while slightly curt at times, she epitomizes the "kind but not nice" aura of Boston. She's easy to talk to, and her son creates a lot of the art on sale in the shop. I almost hope none of it sells - it's so lovely to look at while enjoying a slice!And speaking of slices, the food here hasn't been a miss for me. I usually stick with a couple of cheese slices, and they're always piping hot. I've also had the eggplant parm sub, which is perhaps my favorite eggplant parm in Boston thus far (sorry, Parish Cafe! I'd recommend people come here instead!). Added bonus: It's open super late, unlike most other places in Boston.Strongly recommend. Worth your time to come to prep for tomorrow's hangover. Or just because. You won't regret it.

I was picking up an order here from door dash, I didn't actually try any food myself. But while I waited I watched the main woman touch the iPad screen, her glasses 10 times all while making pizza dough. No hand washing, no gloves. Just a bunch or cross contamination. She went from station to station touching everything in between and didn't wash her hands once.

So, have had this pizza many times while son was in cancer treatment down the road. Usually pretty good but pizza we got tonight was not great. Cheese one was not edible. Over cooked, old looking and didn't taste good at all. Meat lovers was cooked good not had no sauce but a little next to crust edge. If it had sauce would have been great. Other stuff was good. Very disappointed to spend hard earned money on garbage.... Hopefully this isn't the new normal here

This place is pretty good for the price and convenience. When I first moved here I looked at the couple places within walking distance and this place came up and is open until 3AM. Perfect. I was missing my fish and chips from back home in Ca, so I ordered that. As I waited I saw people file in for their steak subs and the lady busily making them fresh on the grill. I realized I should have gone that way because the fish and chips were a bit soggy and not great. But I went back for a steak and peppers sub and I enjoyed it very much. Next time I went for a slice of pizza and it is generic but again, good for the price. The crust was nice and well done which I prefer.I find most hole in the walls here lack a bit of the friendliness as back home but the guy at the register is not rude and is efficient, so I appreciate that. Is this a gourmet spot,? No, but it is a great spot for drunk grub late at night. And I recommend the steak peppers onions and cheese sub.

I have eaten at Joseph's for numerous years. the service is good when you get to know the husband and wife team who run it. I love the steak subs but today I might try a couple of slices of pizza for a late lunch.I love them for "Take Out" but never tried to eat in the restaurant Yet.

Customer service is horrible! Please remove the older lady from the register and from taking orders. She's beyond rude. Listen to your customers if you want to keep them. Time to make a change!! I ignored her attitude for so long, but today drew the line, after I noticed I got over charged. Not worth it! I'll stay away, take my business elsewhere and just pray to God to take control and change whatever is inside of her, if they decide to keep her and for the best of other customers.

May be biased but love this place. Steak and cheese is great, reminds me of an Italian beef style sandwhich you mainly get in Chicago. Onion rings are me and my friends favorite. Good place if you need something quick to eat

Out of town, here in Boston for 6 days for the NCAA Championships for Track and Field! I have ate at this place each day for lunch- great service, great price, & great food!

Terrible customer service the lady at the cash register always had a attitude. She's alway talking to the customers in a very bad way. I personally don't recommend anybody to spend they money in this place of business y'all are better off spending your money else where.And the location is very unsanitary I seen flies,cockroaches,rats whatever you name it in this location.

Helped me through late night munchies . The pizza is fire. The empanadas are too small though. But thank you Joe
