Came here for a friend's birthday dinner. Seating was plentiful on a Friday night and we were seated immediately. We called ahead and they were good with us bringing in an outside birthday cake.We got some mixed vegetables with noodles, shrimp dumplings, combo fried rice, Peking duck, mapo tofu, and a bunch of other dim sum dishes. The service was a bit slow, but the food was decent. The Peking duck was really good--they shave the pieces close to the skin and then give you fried rice with the duck meat. The duck fried rice was actually better (less soggy too) than the combo fried rice!

I haven't been to Hei La Moon since 2016 when my family came for my graduation. And to my surprise they moved from their old location outside the gate!It was always a hit or miss, not with the food but with the service. I had a friend with his family visiting and expected it to be a big group of us so I chose for us to come here. Thankfully the service was good that day. The food was good as I remembered. I don't know if this was always a thing but they serve peeking duck and the server builds it up for you instead of yourself and I love that little detail. This restaurant is smaller but they made sure to fit as many tables and seats inside! We didn't have to wait very long for a table.

Clearly you are overlooked if not a large table full of Asians. Rice. I ordered fried rice along with a few other dishes. Checked the box, waitress circled it. As those around us were well served i asked politely 3 seperate times - never got it.Chicken dish was cold and overly sweet. Street noodles were bone dry and flavorless.Been in Chinatown in NYC, SF, HTX - all great - would pick somewhere else in Boston. This place was just awful.

Had high hopes for this place.Walked in and it was full of local residents. We went here thinking the dim sum is served nonstop but that happens only on the weekends. During the week you can order a la carte. We ordered lots of appetizers and some were good: chicken wings and friend pork goyza.I didn't care for anything else because it either tasted too salty, lower quality on the meat, or the texture itself.Service was regularly present but there was a language barrier and I don't think smiles are encouraged or prized in this restaurant's culture. The place was clean overall and the food came out sooner than later. I don't think I would give it another try unless I was super hungry for Chinese food.Take me to Din Tai Fung instead!!!

Somewhat shady dimsum place for luring tourists and the uninformed. Don't let the colorful menu and popularity fool you, a lot of red flags. Different from other dimsum places is that this place didn't ask us what kind of tea we wanted. Most traditional dimsum places will ask what kind of tea you want and you can ask for black tea puer, chrysantheum, oolong, dragonwell etc. But here they straight up dropped a standard pot of tea at the table and they still charge you $1 per person for it. That's usually done at run of the mill chinese restaurant's that aren't serving dimsum traditionally. I tasted it and definitely was a normal class of tea that's no where near the quality of places like Mings or Windsor. For $1 per person tea charge, the expectation is able to choose a tea type and it should be of at least sufficient quality, but it didn't happen here.Second red flag is the prices. They didn't give us any menus but instead pointed to the QR code on table. This opened up the chowbus site with all the dimsum, entrees, rice and noodle dishes. Here is where the deception begins as the prices for most of the dimsum was $5.95 a dish which was actually pretty cheap compared to most places. When we got the check, it was actually $8.95 a dish. WTH? When we asked to see a paper menu, the dimsum listed had no prices next to them, they were blank! If you read further down (see screenshot) there's some text that says "Prices subject to change without notice". So they basically can charge whatever that day and you won't know until you get the bill. There was no signage, posting, or waitstaff letting us know of the dimsum prices. Third - Food The fried shrimp chives was deathly cold. Per pic, apparently, if you push a cart full of fried food around in open air dollar tree foil trays with no warmer, in a fully air conditioned dining room, things tend to get cold and congealed fast. Doesn't matter to them, they'll still server it so we can bit into frigid fried shrimp that's got a congealed oily core. The rest of the dimsum was so mediocre, myself who grew up on dimsum and my mother who is an old school dimsum lover, was so disappointed, we didn't even finish. The only good dish was the wonton brisket noodle soup. Although it was good, it can't save this place. Overall, I miss the old Hel La Moon that was originally on beach street. The Hei La Moon of today is just a greedy shadow of its former self that preys on tourist money and relies on its previous prestige and location to survive.

Good dim sum and good service. Good amount of seating. Probably one of my go to for dim sum when in Boston.

There are two parts for this review. One for the dimsum and one for the dinner. Dimsum was a 3.5/5 stars. We are visiting from NYC and all the reviews we read said this was the best restaurant for dimsum so we had to try it out. We ordered 3 dishes to go and the total came out to a little over $20. We got the spare ribs, chicken feet and beef rice noodles. The spare ribs were mediocre, chicken feet were standard but the beef rice noodles were delicious! The beef was very well seasoned and the noodles were silky and smooth. Definitely on my list of top 3 best rice noodles ever!Dinner was a 0/5 stars. It was terrible. What a huge difference from dimsum! I should've known not to come here for dinner since all the Yelp reviews only rave about the dimsum and there aren't much reviews on the dinner portion. We ordered 4 dishes and came out to over $120 before tip. Definitely on the pricier end! We ordered the peking pork chop, lobster with ginger and scallion, half a fried chicken and spinach. -The peking pork chop was terrible. The sauce was way too sweet and tasted very fishy. The pork chop didn't even taste like it was fried and the meat was very gamey. -The lobster with ginger and scallion was terrible too. The lobster was small but pretty meaty but it was lacking a lot of flavor. -The fried chicken was SO dry! It was inedible and hard as a rock. You can barely chew on the meat if there was even any to begin with. Picture for reference.-The spinach dish we requested was spinach in soup with salted egg yolk. We ended up getting the dish with century year old egg with crumbles of an egg yolk. Mediocre at best. The service during dinner was terrible too. We barely got any help and it was so hard to flag down a waiter. Avoid this place for dinner at all cost. It was pricey and not worth it at all.

The prices were kinda scary, but its filling, and pretty tasty. I usually don't care for Dim Sum, which is generally plain, bland, food that's usually overly salty, overly sweet & sugary, tons of starch, and sea food is their general vibe, but this had a mix of all kinds of things, that I could see myself returning again. I tend to prefer more Northern Chinese cuisine, and this actually had Northern stuff options. So, I was overall pretty happy, despite it being a Southern thing.I must admit that I love the Cantonese Chashao bao (Sweet pork steamed buns) much better than the Northern styles, and this place had a some really good ones!

Came on a Sunday around noon and waited around 10 minutes for a table. Surprised to get a table at a very busy place. Food and service is mid at best. I would not come again. Ordered har gow, siu mai, steamed rice rolls, chicken feet, chasiu bao buns, shrimp and chive dumplings, and sweet tofu soup. Nothing was fresh or hot, despite being fresh from the carts. The steamed rice rolls and dumplings were not soft and the soy sauce had weak flavor. The best thing was the sweet tofu soup with the ginger syrup. Bill was around $100 including tip. We left hungry and unsatisfied. Not worth the drive or trying to find parking. Felt like the overall experience was a waste of time.

Food measures up! My second visit and I would recommend in a heartbeat. Service is fast and courteous. Only thing I would want is chart service!! I might have gotten there after chart service so that could explain it. The ambiance is welcoming and feels like a Chinese Dim Sum place!
