far out is one of two major ice cream shops in coolidge corner. i love far out's fresh flavors and quirky seasonal menu. this summer is hot honey peach (complete with a peach ring candy) and has been one of my favorite flavors! you can order at the counter or at one of two kiosk. they also have a rewards program that i highly recommend! it does get pretty busy there, so don't forget to check outside for seating options!

Flavors - 3/5Textures - 4/5Presentation - 4/5Value for Money - 3/5I love the idea here, but I think the experience will be highly dependent on the flavors. I got their best seller (Kookaberry) and it was good, but lacked sweetness, tanginess and excitement. It felt like a low fat/calorie ice cream (which if it is my score would be different, but they don't advertise it that way). I did love the presentation, but not the price. I also tried their vanilla base by itself and it was pretty good! Actually better than the blended ice cream, but you can't get it as soft serve, just as hard scoop. I liked the service ordering through the screen, although because this ice cream is so different, it might be a better experience to talk to someone about it that can help guide your choice.

The staff is always friendly. And there is always a rotation of interesting flavors. For hot and humid nights this place is my go to as the ice cream is very light and refreshing with the fruit based flavors. Fair prices too My favorite is the banana or the raspberry icecream

I was running errands with my mom in the neighborhood when I spotted this cute little ice cream shop. The woman working behind the counter was really friendly and explained how to order: first pick a base (vanilla or chocolate), then add in fresh fruit, which would be blended into the ice cream to make it more of a soft serve consistency, then you could opt for toppings. My mom got a vanilla with blueberries and strawberries in a cone and I decided on a vanilla with strawberries and banana in a cone. The ice cream was really smooth and tasty and the cones were crunchy and fresh. My only callout would be that it needed more fruit--the bottom of my cone was just vanilla. Overall, it's a fun place that I'd visit when I'm back in the area.

This was a very cute and interesting place serving New Zealand style ice cream. There are kiosks in the back of the place where you can customize your order. They gave options of different fruits to blend and different bases to choose from. After you order, they would call you up when your order is ready. This type of ice cream isn't my style but it's definitely worth a try. It is definitely a cute place and there is plenty of seating available both inside and outside the place.

We got the kookaberry with a vanilla base and chocolate base, to compare. The vanilla emphasized the berry flavors (wasn't prominent in the background) while the chocolate flavor was a bit stronger (and better imo!)We went on a Wednesday night and the wait was very long- maybe 10 min between ordering through the kiosk and receiving our ice creams. Granted there were only 2 people behind the counter and it was very busy, but this place is much slower than your typical ice cream shop.This was my first time here and I intentionally chose a basic flavor combo to try first- I'd return to try other funkier combinations for sure!

We had far out today after dinner for the first time and we really enjoyed it!! I had the raspberry mudslide and it was delicious! My only complaint is all of our cones were broken on the bottom and though the ice cream doesn't melt super fast, it does eventually start to leak so good to look out of that! Otherwise the people behind the counter were nice and it was mostly clean, very well lit, and not too loud.

Creamiest ice cream I've ever had!! So smooth and perfect amount of sweetness. I got the chocolate base with mango and added matcha as a topping, ran me about $7.50. Mango was subtle but definitely there; matcha could have been stronger. One star off because cones were an extra $1.50 on top of an already higher priced ice cream, but otherwise so good.

This place is such a unique and delicious treat! Every time I've visited, my experience has been great. And you know it's good when the smell of freshly baked waffle cones is the first smell that greets you as you walk inside. On my last visit, I tried one of their new specialty flavors which was made of strawberry and had honey drizzled on top. I love how fresh and fruity (without being artificial tasting) their ice cream is. Their cones are also delicious, although I wish they offered more varieties. I will say too that there is very limited seating inside. If you're coming with a large group, just expect that you'll probably have to take your ice cream to-go.

Love this place! Usually I don't get ice cream when the weather starts getting cold but this place is the exception. Super friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Plus they have cool merch too
