I came here for a casual date night on a recommendation from a friend and was thoroughly pleased. We got the sichuan cold noodles, which I'm already a big fan of, and they were on point--perfectly numbing, great balance of flavors, and good texture to the noodle. It was very refreshing. We also tried something new for us and got the chicken with sour mustard and green pepper. My partner absolutely loved it! I happen to hate sour mustard, and even despite that the dish was extremely well executed and I ate it quite happily. Chili Garden reminds me of all my family's go-to chinese restaurants growing up in the bay area--a good mix of "authentic" and "american style" classics on the menu, comfortable family-friendly vibe, and great execution. I'm overjoyed that such a restaurant is in the area.

We were in the mood for Sichuan cuisine so when we found out that this place is in Medford, super close to our place, we had to try. The menu is very extensive but we were able to find what we wanted. I got the less spicy version of mapo tofu with shrimp and my boyfriend got general tsao chicken. We were a little nervous since there's no mention of white rice or rice of any kind on the side but we thought it'd make sense if these items have rice included. The pickup process was pretty easy but when we got home and opened the bag up, our stomachs were so sad. There was no rice lol?!! So we had to quickly made some to eat with these orders. The food was ok, very very soupy and that's for both. Don't know if we ever gonna find ourselves here again

Good Szechuan cuisine. Lunch specials $9.50 could be better value than dinner menu $16-$20+. Popular dishes include:- house special cat fish $20 is fragrant spicy and good. Recommended. - eggplant with garlic sauce $12.50 comes with yummy spicy sauce. Recommended. - sesame chicken $15 has some pieces really good, some overcooked dry. Kids favorite. - dry diced chicken with green pepper $16. Chicken meat can be dry and over fried. Spices are nicely fragrant. - general Tso chicken $15 is slightly spicy, also too dry. Can skip.

First time Came here on a Saturday afternoon, two big party has and other 5tables there, only two server but we're seated immediately, after ordered, the food came out in 10 minutes! Super efficient!Food is decent, fair sized, we ordered Sichuan style jelly noodles, fried string beans & double fried pork belly. the jelly noodle is not spicy at all, string bean and pork belly are delicious! So we went the following day again due to it is close to where we stay during the trip! Numb chili pepper fish filets, Ramen (Sichuan style peanuts noodle, fried lamb with bean paste. Everything came out good, will recommend to anyone craving spicy food!

We've gotten take away twice and I've had mixed experiences. The first time I had ma po tofu which was very peanuty and unlike any ma po I've had before. I was not a fan and just ate garlic broccoli, which was as expected. The second time I got the dry braised vegetables and they were HOT. So good though. My partner always gets the szechuan chicken and loves it.

I went with a group of friends to eat dinner here recently, and two of our friends have gluten intolerance. Chilli Garden was equipped to accommodate, which was wonderful. My husband and I split an order of egg rolls - and they were the best egg rolls I have ever had. I don't know what they do, but the light and crispy outer layer was delicious. Not greasy! My order of sesame chicken was the same... just beautiful. I didn't feel like I ate a super heavy meal after it was all over, which tends to happen when I eat American style Chinese dishes at any other place. Our rice was served in a large dish, family style, which was also nice. This is a must try! We will definitely be heading back.

5 stars for going above and beyond being open on Christmas. You would expect Chinese food to be open on Christmas, but we all should not take it for granted.Short staffed and the food was still spot on. There's definitely an opportunity if any food places want to be open on Christmas, people still need to eat.

I've been coming to Chilli Garden for over 10 years, initially with my mom who is from Sichuan. The food is authentic, delicious, and well priced. I stopped by for a quick lunch today after a 3 hour car ride and was not disappointed. My favorite dishes are the spicy beef tendon, which has great flavor and a kick, and eggplant. The lunch special of kung-pao chicken, soup, and rice for $10 is unbeatable too. Food was served piping hot within 10 minutes of ordering and I was impressed as always. Best to dine in for this reason. The service and atmosphere are always excellent too. This place is incredible and my favorite Chinese food in the Boston area. I'll be coming back for many years to come.

I'm really surprised this place has 4 stars. We placed a to go order today consisting of the following:Scallion PancakesBeef TeriyakiChicken with PeapodCrispy Shrimp with WalnutsMinced Beef with Cilantro SoupKing Oyster Mushroom with GarlicScallion Pancakes - nothing to rave about. It is expected that when you get to this to go it comes a bit soggy. A consideration would be to poke holes out to let the heat transfer out so it doesn't get trapped in and turn into liquid. I'd rather my scallion pancakes are a bit cooler but still crisp.Beef Teriyaki - got this for my toddler. It was overcooked, dried, and lacked flavor. Disappointed and my toddler spit it out. We couldn't finish this and threw it out.Chicken with Peapod - nothing to rave about, the flavor was ok. However, I was very disappointed that they did not thoroughly clean the pea pods. The stems and the strings were still on the peapods which is a major no no. Crispy Shrimp with Walnuts - this was probably the most disappointing dish given the price point. 1) the shrimp tail was not peeled off. It is ok to leave the shrimp tail on a dish like salt and pepper shrimp, but I have not seen a restaurant leave the shrimp tail shell on for this dish. 2) way too much breading. typically you use a little bit of cornstarch to give it a bit of crisp, but they put a tempura batter on it or something. I peeled most of that off so that I could actually get to the shrimp. 3) the mayo sauce itself was not well coated on the shrimp and it was a bit thicker then I am used to. 3) Lastly the walnuts were over toasted and I don't believe they added any flavor to the walnuts, typically you'd make a simple syrup to mix in after toasting the walnuts. Minced Beef with Cilantro Soup - flavor was there but again nothing to rave about. King Oyster Mushroom with Garlic - flavor was there, but mushroom can easily absorb flavor and you really can't mess up a king oyster mushroom dish, so I wouldn't say that this is an indication of the ability of the restaurant to cook a good dish. I felt compelled to write my review given the good reviews this restaurant received and it unfortunately missed the mark big time. It could be that we didn't order their Szechuan dishes, but I cannot in good conscious recommend this place based on their basic decision on how they prepare and prep some of their dishes.

I decided to give this spot a second chance after reading some positive reviews about their Szechuan-style items and I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Their popular Szechuan items are hearty and pair very well with some white rice (must be ordered separately). The spice levels are pretty decent if you are a fan of heat and there weren't any peppercorn balls, which was perfect for me because I'm not a fan of that numbing taste. If you wish to try out Chilli Garden, avoid their typical American-Chinese offerings and go for their more exotic hot foods.
