We drove quite a way to try out Cafe Valenciano in Winthrop.First of all its not easy to get to Winthrop no matter where you come from unless you live there. The parking is extremely hard as they do not have a parking lot and there is only parking on one side of the street. There are not many businesses near them so I would guess the residents are taking up most of the parking....Finally found a space after driving back and forth several times, and took the short walk to the restaurant. This is a very small place. We walked in and there were many seats open but a lot of them on top of other patrons. It was about 8:45 pm and the restaurant closes at 9:00 pm.A lady who appeared to hate her job comes up to us with no smile, no welcome...just said "reservations?" I kind of chuckled because you might think we were in some high-end fancy restaurant. There were many empty seats and interior was low budget. She promptly told us to sit "there" and pointed her finger to a 2 seat table that was literally on top of the door. Anyone entering would be brushing up against the table. We said no, that we did not want to site there. There was a table in front of the windows, so we asked if we could be seated there. She said no, people are coming in for that table. So, we said OK, and proceeded to leave. As we were leaving, she muttered "Ok you can sit there". Unfortunately, we were totally turned off from the experience so far and left. The space in the restaurant is a shoe box. There were a few people in there but certainly nothing that warrants a "reservation".The hostess (and I use that word loosely), was the most unfriendly, unaccommodating, miserable person I have encountered in a long while. If you hate your job, GO DO SOMETHING ELSE!This entire time, the two owners were standing there watching potential customers walk out the door. And a point worth mentioning. In a restaurant so small, you should be smelling the aromas of the food cooking. I smelled nothing.

Greeting and Service remain old school warm and welcoming. Have to lead off with the fact that The Veal saltimbocca was the best I've had in years; it was wonderfully tender, a thick and genius portion and fabulous in flavor. The updated facade and outdoor tables are a nice addition and I was so pleased to see the old photo's remain in place to add to the ambiance. The brother chef's have kept and, perhaps, enhanced the quality of the offerings based the veal I had. Nice to see a great destination still available and love the fact that is BYOB... Be sure to tip well!!Pics next time... couldn't wait to dive in!
