OMG what happened to Borelli's? They've been our go-to for family-style Italian in Coastal North County for 20+ years. I would've given them 4 or 5 stars for every visit. Our visit last night was decidedly underwhelming. When we arrived, we saw a 'Servers Wanted' sign at the entry. Note that's not a typo. Multiple openings for wait staff is often not a good sign. Our server admitted she's brand new. It showed. The service was subpar. The food was no better than the service. We shared a medium cheese & black olive pizza, and a 'Greek' Salad with 'grilled' chicken. The 'standard' pizza crust at Borelli's has always been thick. Thin crust is available upon request. We did not specify thin crust but that's what we got. We called this out to our server, who immediately ordered the kitchen to make us a new pizza. We knew another pizza would take 10-15 minutes, so we started on the thin crust offering. The crust was bland and undercooked. The pizza sauce was salty. The cheese was also undercooked and bland. The black olives were nothing special. Overall, the thin crust pizza we got was quite disappointing. I've had better frozen pizza. The 'Greek' salad with 'chicken' was also a big disappointment. In the past, A Greek salad from Borelli's was made with romaine/iceberg mix, large pieces of tomatoes, cucumbers, green & red bell peppers, red onion, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, and a very good Greek dressing. They were plenty big enough for 2-3 people. Not so this time. The 'Greek' salad last night had iceberg lettuce, no romaine, no tomatoes, no cucumbers, no Kalamata, shaved carrots, tiny bits of green pepper, tiny bits of feta, sundried tomatoes, and black olives. The salad was overdressed in a bland and salty dressing that tasted more Italian than Greek. The chicken was one smallish breast that looked and tasted like it was boiled. Very bland. It was sprinkled with black pepper. This salad was barely big enough for two people. Honestly, there was nothing 'Greek' about this salad. For $21 we expect more. The replacement pizza arrived in a takeout box 45 minutes after our waitress ordered it. It appeared to be a thicker crust but was still undercooked. It's sitting uneaten in our fridge. It may go straight into the trash. The one thing about our visit that was consistent is the ambiance of the restaurant. At least that hasn't changed. For what it is, we like it.Borelli's has always been a family style Italian restaurant. As such, it will never be confused with a high-end Italian eatery. It is what it is. And for what it had been, it was a great place for a very decent Italian meal. I can't say that after this experience.I doubt we will be back.

We did a "to go" order here recently as my parents no longer go out. Apparently they used to think this place was good long ago. It is far from that now.A very basic dinner for four came out to over $140 with service fees and mandatory tips. This might have been okay if the food was good, but it wasn't. The simplest spaghetti bolognese tasted like canned sauce. I easily could have gone down the street to Trader Joes and picked up a couple of frozen italian entrees to share for less than $20 and thrown them in the microwave. There are far better choices in the area...

I'm not really sure I understand this place.I stopped in with my girlfriend for lunch, and no waiters would help us. It was bizarre, never seen anything like it. We literally just sat there for 5 minutes in what felt like an empty restaurant while someone who may or may not work here sat on her phone. Completely insane...Must be money laundering or something

If I could leave ZERO stars I would ! We ordered two Italian subs $17.49 A PIECE with NO OIL AND VINEGAR because we weren't going to eat it right away. My husband gets home and not only did they add it THEY LOADED THEM UP . The bread on top and bottom was so soggy and gross it wasn't edible . We also had ordered a pizza so thank god there was SOMETHING to eat . I called them right away but since they were closed I had to leave a message . No one called me the next day and I tried 7 TIMES to call them through the next two days and NO ONE answered or returned my calls . We have been LONG time customers for YEARS and I have no idea what has happened to this place . VERY DISAPPOINTING. Maybe there is new ownership but if they want to stay afloat their customer service had better improve and hire staff and kitchen people who can actually READ a food order .

When you want to be surprised if a restaurant is open or not, this is your place.Last Monday night we went there at 6pm, closed. Last night (Wednesday) tried to call several times, answering machine said they were closed.Appears to be out of business or just has very poor management.

It's like if Fillipi's and Costco food court had a baby (I mean this in the best way possible) for some reason reminds me of Costco pizza but if the ingredients were better and the ridiculous cheesiness of a Fillipis pizza. I was scared when I saw reviews saying stuff had changed but it's still great and what I expected

We LOVE this place ! It has been our neighborhood favorite for many years. It's down home style; warm service and great food and portions. Many years ago , during Covid I think.. when I didn't like a change to my dish. Chicken parmigiana, I called to share my feedback with the owner .. its namesake .. and he was very gracious, patient and understood. Ever since then.. it's been back to their amazing best I ever tasted chicken parmigiana!! Another day a couple of months ago; my husband felt like a beer in the late afternoon, and decided to come here. The staff was so nice to him ; he felt so comfortable and welcome .. really enjoyed it! Tonight we brought a friend for his birthday... and the food was great as always and service - Bailey was absolutely amazing ! A true delight. She was so thoughtful and pro active. Brought bags with takeout containers etc. Thank you Bailey and thank you Borellis !

We are regulars and last night we decided at the last minute to go for dinner. We saw a new waitress but nobody else. My husband and I were saying we hadn't seen Bailey in a long time and then suddenly we saw her! We were so happy to see her and she took care of us and was her usual friendly and sweet self. She not only takes care of us but always asks how we're doing and makes you feel good. Thank you Bailey for always being so thoughtful!
