I LOVE cookbooks. They're my favorite type of book. I love reading cookbooks and learning from them. I love looking at cookbooks with great photos. 95% of the books I check out from the library are cookbooks. This is why I was so excited when I learned about Book Larder! We stopped in one afternoon while visiting Seattle and I had a field day just looking around. There were so many cookbooks I've never heard of, and I have heard of a lot! The shop itself is thoughtfully arranged with great displays. If I lived nearby I would go to all their events! They have a small kitchen setup and someone was cooking something on the stovetop when we were there. I love the vintage window display. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because we were completely ignored by both the women working while we were there. It was sort of awkward since the store is not big and they didn't even look at us, smile, say hello... nothing. The only interaction we received was when we politely said thank you when leaving. I thought it was really weird since anyone coming into a store like this probably has something in common with the people working there. My friend also commented on how strange it was. A simple "hello, let us know if you need help with anything," when a customer enters can go a long way for making people feel welcome.

Catching up on Yelp reviews. This was for an author visit the MKE Yelper wanted to attend at Book Larder on 10/12/18. I love supporting indie bookstores, especially when the focus is all things related to cookbooks. That evening also happen to coincide with their 7th anniversary where they were hosting a multifaceted chef who divides her time between Seattle and Karachi, Pakistan. It was a small, intimate gathering where we got to sample a recipe from her cookbook, listen to the chef/author's anecdotes, and of course, Q&A.I've attended several of these type of author readings/lectures. Book Larder has monthly events like that, cooking/baking classes, helpful professional staff, and an amazing selection of cookbooks and culinary related gifts. Make sure to sign up for their monthly newsletter. Plus join their buyer's club where you accrue enough for free gifts and a mighty discount on a future purchase. With the volume of books I've purchased over the years, it a miracle the second floor of my townhouse hasn't collapsed!

BC: Book larder is a small, independent book store that caters to the art of cookery. There are loads of different options available to shoppers including loads of different options sorted by cuisine. In the days before C, it was also home to instructional cookery classes and catered to a lunch and learn crowd with a small section of unique books. AC: This used to be my go-to book store in the Seattle area but sadly is no longer the case. Before going to the store, you need to register online via their website as traffic for the store is strictly limited due to C. I didn't have a booking and waited approximately 10 minutes before being allowed in between appointments - so registering ahead of time is strongly advisable. When I finally gained access, one of the staff members was blunt when I declined sanitising my hands due to the chronic skin condition I've formed from hand sanitiser which sadly left a really sour taste in my mouth. When I asked about their second hand/older book selection which was the main reason I would keep coming back I was informed that they stopped doing it. Sadly they killed one of the main things that made this store unique and served the bad news to me with some attitude. If you want to support an independent book seller who specialises in cookery books then shop here. If you're after something special or a unique gem, sadly they no longer carry those.

Oh, Book Larder. You feed my addiction and I love you for it. As the owner of somewhere north of (ahem) 500 cookbooks, I'm pretty picky about adding new ones to my collection. Book Larder has the most comprehensive selection in the city, and I never walk away empty handed. I appreciate that they have a decent selection of British imports, and a strong section of local authors as well. The staff are friendly and willing to help you find something if you need a recommendation, and they have a great lineup of author talks (currently online).Would it be cheaper to get most of these books on Amazon? Undoubtedly. But this place is a treasure and it is worth supporting, even if it costs a bit more.

Adorable shop!!! This is a little slice of heaven for anyone who is looking for a cookbook! I have heard of this shop for over a year. I was finally able to get into one of their cooking classes later this summer. I listen to their podcast and was lucky enough to be a taster for their French Pastry Bake off. What a fun community they are building. I just wish I lived in the neighborhood so I could be a regular.

One of my FAVORITE things about Seattle. If you like bookstores and if you LOVE cookbooks; check this place out! I think my bf and I spent 2 hours browsing the store and I didn't even get to walk around the whole store! They have a HUGE selection of both newer and older releases. I ended up buying 3 "Shortstack" Cookbooks since I couldn't buy an actual cookbook to bring back to CA (we chose to travel living out of our backpacks). Also, I think they do cooking demos or events at their store because they have a stocked kitchen with chairs in the center of their shop. Pretty cool! I would spend sooo much time AND money here if I lived in the Seattle area! Lol. Check it out!

This place is a magical bookstore focusing only on cookbooks. The magic comes in a few ways - but I'd say the first is that by focusing on a specific genre of books, it allows the store to more fully explore that category. I find traditional bookstores (particularly small and independent ones) try to be everything to everyone. The result is a superficial level of the top sellers.Book Larder is a place that can fully explore the wide range of the cookbook section, it's really a delight. The magic here also comes through in their strong partnerships with authors and chefs. They always have reading or some other events in addition to a lot of signed books available. They also have a demonstration kitchen in the middle of the bookstore which is fun for some hands on demonstrations. If you're in the area and enjoy cooking and/or bookstores - Book Larder is a must.

I finally went here for the first time and it's a cookbook lover's heaven!! I can't wait to go back. Books are nicely displayed and categorized. I went for Polina Chesnakova's cookbook talk on her new book Everyday Cakes. It was lovely and ended with some of her cake! It was a little toasty in there on a summer evening with the sun besting into a small room but fans were going. I look forward to returning to more cookbook author talks and perusing the best selection of cookbooks that I've ever seen!
