This hole-in-the-wall joint serves up crispy, dry rub spiced hot chicken. Their heat level is much hotter than other hot chicken places in town. Order at least a level down from Prince's and Hattie B's.Catfish was the superb - highly recommend

Got a leg plate today. Chicken was spoiled and smelled really bad. Waste of money and time. Either it's spoiled or their chicken smells horrible. Tried a bite and it was obviously bad. Wonder if anyone got sick today. I see another review complaining about same thing. Also the cashier is doing too many things with his gloves on. Literally takes cash with gloves on and does everything else with the same glove on without changing it once.

We did takeout via Uber Eats. We ordered two leg quarters - one hot and one very hot. We couldn't eat either because the meat was so clearly spoiled. It made our car smell so bad. When we opened the boxes to cut into the chicken, the odor was even worse. We threw it out right away.

We were recommended this place during our Nashville visit and the first thing she mentioned was the catfish. I'm glad she did because the chicken was bland but the Catfish was delicious. We also ordered green beans and mac and cheese. The green beans were from a can and bland and the mac and cheese was bland also.Don't expect great service (it is what it is) but if you're looking for fresh catfish, I recommend.

A small hole in the wall spot, this place really surprised me. I got a fish sando and chicken and it was good, This place imo had the hottest seasoning on their chicken compared to the other well know spots in Nashville. The parking here is easy and a decent amount of seating. The set up here is real simple, counter to order and pick up. They do take card which is nice. The fish sando was crispy and well cooked. The chicken was hott and well spiced.

Solid spot overall, but I think you're better served going to other hot chicken spots whether you're a local or visiting town.I went for the breast plate and had it at the hot spice level. It brought a good amount of heat and had a nice flavor, but the breading to chicken ratio was crazy high. It reminded me of Popeyes, which isn't the worst thing, but not quite what I would expect with the level of hype. The sides tasted solid, though the beans were pretty chilly leading me to believe they'd been out most of the day. I also highly recommend bringing your own water as they don't have there. The spot overall is all about the chicken/fish and doesn't do much by way of ambiance, which I can definitely appreciate, but that won't be everyone's jam

This is my second time at Bolton's. Had to make it back to the renowned chicken and fish spot while I was in Nashville! This is the south, so no one was in a rush to get our order, but I didn't mind since it's small and staff is limited. It's a homey restaurant, and the gentleman that took our order was quite pleasant. They have a walk up window to order and available seating inside and tables outside as well. Everything is served to go.Don't rely on the menu items you might find online, as options may be different once you get there. I ordered a catfish plate with coleslaw and potato salad. Alright, let's talk spice....the options are non-spicy (there's a reason for that), light mild, mild, medium, hot, and extra spicy. I can normally handle some spice, but erred on the side of caution and went with mild. I got my order fairly quickly after placing it.It was time to dig in as soon as we got back home. The fish was fried to perfection and boy am I glad I got mild; it was definitely hot enough. Others got medium, and said it was on the hotter side. The plate also comes with raw onions and pickles (which I got on the side), and bread. The coleslaw and potato salad were pretty good.Bolton's will always be a Nashville staple, and is definitely worth trying if you haven't had a chance to swing by.

The service was great! Every single employee was so nice. And well the chicken is hot AF and tasty. Potatoe salad pretty good too. I'm Jamaican and I could not handle mild. My Cameroonian friend gave it 7/10 spice level. Will definitely be back the next time I want to set my soul on fire

As a spicy food lover, from TX, I was excited to try some Nashville hot chicken while in town. I listed to the waiter and ordered mild based on their recommendation that the spice level was about one level higher. Friends, the chicken was anything but mild. It wouldn't even qualify as medium, or hot at most places. Within one bite my eyes were watering and I felt as though i was on the final stages of an episode of hot ones. The chicken completely blew out my taste buds and was somehow simultaneously spicy and bland. I don't think there's any seasoning on it beyond the dry rub... Oh and it's crazy overpriced... $40 for two people to eat some mediocre fried chicken. Hard pass
