Blackmarket Bakery is one of my favorite spots in San Diego. I usually frequent the North Park location because it's a little more convenient, but I found myself in East Village and appreciated getting to stop in for the perfect pick me up! The matcha latte is my favorite and I enjoy getting it with a pump of lavender. Besides their great drinks, I love their breakfast sandwich (the fresh prince is so refreshing and tasty) and the baked goods. They have amazing cookies and croissants. I could rave on and on but I love this spot!

Omg. Love this location and vibe. First time today but excited to come back and try more things. Fast and friendly service! Pastries are out of this world in the flavor universe.

Cako and I had just finished our downtown walk and I was hungry. Typed in "bakeries" and Blackmarket came up. I didn't know they had a new location downtown, and they were open! Friendly greeting, and I just started ordering: pumpkin scone, mixed berry scone, plain croissant, almond croissant, pan au chocolate, and a loaf of sourdough bread.Everything was delicious! Same great quality as their North Park location. The interior is pleasant, and they have a patio that's dog friendly. Great addition to the changing East Village. I will definitely stop back by when in the neighborhood.Cako Approves!

Loved the ambiance of this place. I felt like I could sit and relax there without being bothered. You could sit down outside or inside. I got the sticky bun and it was cooked to perfection. It wasn't too sweet and nice and yummy in the inside. I need to go back and try there cookies.

This new East Village location of Blackmarket Bakery is much larger than the original shop in University Heights/North Park. The curbside parking (some metered) was also easier, however be wary of the transients that hang out in this area. There was a live band playing on the adjacent patio during the grand opening weekend last month when I visited near closing time. It was quite festive, and most of the indoor and outdoor seating was occupied. The menu board was dominated by breakfast and lunch sandwiches with descriptions. The beverages, pastries, and sweets were listed by name only. Plenty of baked goods were on display at the service counter. Also on display in the middle of the room at several tables forming an island were merchandise and prepackaged dried goods. I chose one savory and one sweet item for my to-go order. The Phoenix was the lunch sandwich of choice. The combination was made up of turkey, pepper jack cheese, avocado, roma tomatoes, arugula, and red pepper mayo on toasted Dutch crunch. I love that type of chewy, crunchy bread and normally choose it when available. Unfortunately, the kitchen had run out of supply. They made the sandwich using white bread which made it look rather plain. The sweet treat was a creme brulee which was served on a cardboard disc with a tab that made it easy to lift from inside the takeout box. I had no issues with the creamy tart at all. The service was a tad slow in preparing my order. The staff working the counter was very pleasant though. The neighborhood can be really gritty on some nearby streets, but I am happy to see the owners take a risk to open where such a business is needed.

Super cute inside, with games like checkers and plenty of tables with cute pillows. The server was super nice and welcoming. Croissants were really good. We liked the Jalapeño, cream cheese, and bacon the best. Loads flavor and super fresh. Can't wait to try more!

Noticed this cute place pop up not too long ago and decided to give it a try. First and foremost there is plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. I got here around 10am, wasn't too busy, order was taken as soon I walked in. I tried their Fresh Prince sandwich, which really hit the spot(the sauce really brings it all together). I also had a mocha but I really wish I would have gotten to try one of their pasties. They all looked so good, I will have to come back to see what those are all about.

I an a fan of Blackmarket Bakery, and I am so happy to learn that they are continuing to expand. This new location in East Village on 15th street. This location is spacious with inside and outside seating. I like what they done here with their packaged baked good displayed about and fresh baked goods behind a protective glass wall. During my visit, I had a cortado and the Farmhouse breakfast sandwich upgraded from a brioche bun to one of their wonderful house butter croissants. $9 plus the $2 for the upgrade. The cortado was $3.75.The farmhouse was not only large but tasty. It came with egg, bacon, ham, and cheddar cheese. It certainly had a great combination of flavors, and I loved the quality of the croissant. One thing they need to perfect is the temperature of the meal. Upon arrival, the croissant was still at room temp at the center, so I asked them to reheat it as a whole. It was better on the second arrival, but realistically it need more heat, but it was a tasty breakfast sandwich that I would not hesitate to order again. The staff members were all super cool and friendly.
