The pastries that I sampled were good but nothing special. While there are a variety of items available, none of the sweets my friends and I purchased wowed me enough to return (many are not pictured). Somewhat disappointing because of how well-liked this place seemed on social media. The employees, however, were so kind (angels even) for letting us order past close (as well as several other customers). Excellent customer service!! Additionally, there is a pretty layout and the place is practically sparkling. Sadly this is not enough to entice me to come again.

I was super excited after reading rave reviews from Eater, but man was I disappointed. There don't show prices, so getting a $15 bill for two small pastries was surprising. The vanilla crumb cake, which the person behind the counter told me it was a "vanilla cream cake", was dry and sandy, with the top part feeling stale and was hard to eat. I took home a pecan tart to have after work, and I wish I hadn't. It tasted like burnt tree bark, and not in a maple-syrup way. I ended up throwing in the trash. Not worth the money, go a few blocks to Flour or Jonquils for something good.

Pros: It's not too loud here, plenty of places to sit, a wide selection of baked goods, relaxing environment, beautiful decor, kind staff, the coffee and food are pretty cheap, the food looks so beautiful as wellTo note: You must purchase at least two pastries, if you purchase the mini pastries.Overall score: A+

I'm *truly* shocked writing this review. Somehow this was one of the worst things I've ever put in my mouth. I don't know what happened- if this is how it's supposed to be- if something happened- idk but it did not taste edible.I went in because I was nearby and knew they were opening a new location. I was super excited and the workers were so nice helping me pick out what to get. I got two cupcakes (Oreo and red velvet), a s'mores brownie, a coconut cake ball, an Oreo cheesecake, and a strawberry petit four. It all came out to $22.98.The only way I can describe the taste was plastic. It tasted like melted plastic was in everything?? The frosting on the cupcakes, the actual cupcakes, the brownie, all of it. My gf thought so too so I am not crazy! Lol. However, I do think something must have been wrong. I don't think anybody would purposely sell something that awful. I don't know what happened but I hope other people have a better experience!

Black Rose European Bakery is the second outpost (Westborough was the first) of an eclectic set of pastries and desserts that astound the senses. The new spot is in the heart of Back Bay - right at the corner of Newbury and Hereford. The venue provides for a spacious and comfortable indoor area as well as a remarkably charming "European" outdoor section. In terms of the offerings, you will find here: tarts, cannolis, mini cheesecakes, standard cheesecakes, mini cakes, cake slices, truffle cake pops, cupcakes, eclairs, panna cotta, brownies, butter cookies, massively decadent cookies, macarons, macaroons, biscotti, embellished croissants, petit fours, and palmiers. Exhausted yet? Moreover, don't forget about the savory items: You'll see a dynamic menu on the wall behind the cashier - with sandwiches of various flavors. I especially enjoyed the mushroom croissant option.Staff is super friendly - willing to answer all your questions about the panoply of delicacies!

I was so excited to see "european bakery" and visited at late night at first. I was more interested in basic bakeries but could see more sweets. Fortunately, we were able to get some samples of bakeries, which did not meet my expectations. The breads were so dry and hard without any savory tastes. When I chewed it in my mouth it was more like spreading crumbs, than foods are melting. The second visit we had so called sfogliatelle, and it was around lunch time. There were more breads than sweets but still nothing caught my eyes. Staffs are nice and friendly but I believe bakeries could be so much better. Maybe that could be the reason it wasn't that crowded during weekend even when the location is great.

I was excited to try this bakery because they have soo many treats and they all look so beautiful, but there is definitely something off with the cake slices. The chocolate raspberry slice tasted musty and old and the frosting had a very bad taste, practically inedible. I did have a chocolate m&m cookie that was pretty good so I wasn't all disappointed, but definitely expected better from this new addition to newbury street! At least the staff was super friendly and efficient.

The staff was very friendly but the prices were a bit extreme. We got a lobster tail croissant, cannoli and mini tart. Each item tasted freezer burnt and stale. Everything looked so perfect but tasted like it had been sitting in a smelly fridge. It was quite the bummer. Lots of potential but there is no way they actually bake anything there.

I went here with my husband, it was one of the few places that were still open late at night in newbury. Nice ambiance and its bright, staff were nice and patient. Im very picky with food so take my review lightly. I got three mini pastries (2 mini cupcakes and a mini strawberry cheesecake) and a chocolate pecan tart. My husband liked the cheesecake mini and the cupcakes were okay. The icing was a thick tart cream cheese icing. I didn't like either one because they were stale to me and the icing tasted like straight cream cheese. The tart was dry and thick, you can see the pecans but barely taste any pecan filling. There are no price tags anywhere for any item. You would have to ask the staff for the prices but they mainly range around 3-8 dollars. The 3 mini pastries were 9.84 and the tart was 7.28Presentation looks great and beautiful but the taste didn't match personally for me.

Paid almost $5 for a below average cupcake. The frosting was hard and the cupcake itself was small and didn't taste good. I've had better from almost any grocery store.
