Biriyani King

Positives: Majority of the dishes I have tried are good, flavorful, orders are fulfilled quickly, best suited for takeaway. Not-so-positives: Price for the small quantity they provide is very high. I say this after comparing with other Indian restaurants in the same neighborhood. Eg: Biryanis. The grilled fish doesn't meet the mark. The chicken lollipop is a fusion of Indian recipe (which is good) and Chinese sauce (not so good as it negates the crunchiness that's already good)I still give it a generous 4 due to friendly staff. They respect their customers very well compared to other restaurants.

Been eating here since 2014 when the place was called "Biryani Factory". The first biryani I tried was the Bezawada biryani. It was very spicy and flavorful. Since then I have also tried the Hyderabadi Dum and Nizam biryani (which became my go to option). I moved out of San Diego a few years ago and made a trip recently. So thought of visiting the place again. I couldnt find Biryani Factory on Yelp anymore. I decided to drive to the plaza anyways and found the restaurant with the same interior but a different name. Ordered the same Nizam biryani that I had been eating for years. The taste was not the same. The biryani was a bit dry and not as flavorful. Not sure if the chef was changed when they changed the name. P.S: The picture I have uploaded is from 8 years ago :)

How this place does not have at least 4 stars is beyond me... But maybe my 5-star rating will help boost this restaurant bc OMG. This place is amazing!I tried Biriyani King out for the first time with a couple friends who had already been here before and I honestly didn't know what to expect. I'm not usually one to try things (if you couldn't tell from the fact that I've lived in SD for 7+ years but never heard about this place) and I haven't had biriyani before so take this review with a grain of salt...Our order for a party of 4 consisted of: - Gobi 65: If you want to get any appetizer, ORDER THIS ONE. I promise, you will not regret it. The cauliflower was fried to perfection and exploding with flavor--it was quickly inhaled by the 4 of us.- Lamb Biryani: - Hyderabadi Goat Dum Biryani (hubby's order)- Keema Biryani (friends' order)- Butter Chicken Masala: A safe yet delicious option for curry. The chicken wasn't dry and the curry was flavorful. I still think my favorite chicken masala is from Taste of Himalayas.- Mango Lassi: Strong, concentrated mango flavor. Small but refreshing!The spicy level ranges from none, mild, medium, and spicy. I opted for "mild" since I can handle a kick, but don't want my tongue to go numb; my dish tasted more like a "medium" spiciness bc phew, it was a slow (yet addictive) burn.All in all, everyone enjoyed their food and had plenty of leftovers for the next day. My hubby and I will be back for more for sure, especially since we told the lady that was serving us (I think she was the owner) that we would :)

Very rarely I have got disappointed with Biryani King food. Been here several times and tried quite a few dishes and love them all.During COVID, this is one place we went regularly and seen no issue with cleanliness.For appetizers, we always for Chicken chukka and chillie chicken. Lamb and chicken Briyanis cannot go wrong here. It is not the best, but it's very decent. If you are veggie, stay away from Biriyani but go with Vegetable Manchurian. The vegetable Manchurian is very crispy and juicy, the sauce is delicious. Downside: Not many chicken or lamb peices in Biriyani and the cost is little high for the quantity. Nizam Biriyani is great but $16 is too much.Masala tea is pass here, instead go for Lassi. Location is convineit with all Indian shops around.

Yelp gives this place $$ but really it's the same value as you get from other Indian restaurants around with $. They just don't have the small portions for 5-6 dollars and instead get a fairly large portion for 10 dollars. Unlike most Indian restaurants, the rice is already mixed into the curry when you get it rather having it separate. I rather prefer to mix it myself but it really just comes down to your personal preference. The vegetable biryani was delicious although a bit too spicy for my liking. Unfortunately, you don't get to choose the level of spice that you want. Nevertheless, I was still very pleased with the meal and the establishment. They stay open a little later than the other places so that's a huge plus for me!

I didn't know there was a biryani place in San Diego until a friend took me here. The biryani definitely lives up to its name. It's not overtly spicy (I would definitely prefer spicier) but it's delicious. The chicken was well cooked, seasoned and marinated. The raita and saag accompanying balanced out the flavours well. The portion size is definitely larger than what the vessel represented. Its enough for 2 people with a starter. We also chose chicken 65 for a starter. That was too fried. I like my chicken 65 to be a little bit softer. The Chutney made it better for sure. Not as oily as I'd thought either. Just fry it a little while shorter next time. It's an ok place to sit in and enjoy - basic Indian restaurant feel.

I really don't know why this place has such a bad rating. I ate here for the first time yesterday and I actually liked the food.Food: we got the chicken dum biryani, chilli paneer and chicken lollipop, and all of it tasted really good.Service: we went in half hour before close an yet the servive was good. The food arrived fast and the servers were sweet and attentive.In-all: I will surely go here again to try more stuff.

Questionable food quality. Patchy service. Avoid this place.Parotta with chicken salna is good, but got sick once after eating here.

THIS PLACE IS NOT CLOSED! Jack had awesome customer service! I ordered the butter chicken with naan bread and let me tell u, IT WAS DELICIOUS!! Savory, flavorful & great portion size. I will definitely be coming back again. Thank u!!
