Yes, it's all about the fish and chips here at Bayside, but I decided on the Smoked Beef Sandwich for $9 and some change.It's a no frills sandwich, with just the chopped smoked beef on a bun with a side of BBQ side. A few pickles here would have been nice to break into the beefy flavor, which was good, but the meat was heavy on the salt, especially towards the end of a bite and chew. It also would have been nice if it were a little juicier. The bun was good and effective. I would have preferred if they served the bun warm, however. It would have complimented the warm beef better and the sandwich as a whole. The BBQ sauce was good and just tad elevated the flavor of the sandwich. It was a decent beef sandwich overall, I can't help thinking of those sour pickles, though.Service was friendly enough but not much for conversation, and the place is very simple inside with a few tables. Like I said, no frills, not that there is anything wrong with that.

The last time I visited this suite in the Rolando neighborhood, Filipino cuisine was being served. Apparently, a relative of the owner was given an opportunity to run that food service, but it was unable to succeed. The lower line of the new marquee sign noted that 'BBQ & Southern Style Food' was also offered at Bayside Fish & Chips. Those items made up the right menu screen while the left screen displayed the traditional fried seafood fare.I picked the Fish Sandwich which was the first of five listings. A fried whitefish fillet (my choice) or catfish nuggets was available as the protein served on a bun with tartar sauce. The batter used on the fish was a light cornmeal. I appreciated that it was not heavily coated on the fillet. I also ordered a serving of the Creole Gumbo. The roux was not as dark as have I seen in other versions of this classic Southern recipe. A medley of crab pieces, clams, chicken, and andouille sausage was mixed together while a dish of white rice was provided on the side to add into the broth.There were only four tables for on-site dining so most of the business at Bayside Fish & Chips was for takeout orders. The BBQ meats were not available at the time of my afternoon visit. The brisket and pork ribs would be worth trying on another occasion when I am in this neighborhood. The food quality and prices were worth a four star rating.

I was excited to see a new fish and chip place had opened. There is a choice of either fried cod or catfish. The friendly person doing everything here offered to make me a half and half order. Fries were crunchy and I loved the flavor of the seasoning. Fried catfish was battered in cornmeal. Loved the fresh catfish flavor. Fried cod was flaky, tender, and juicy. Loved the mix of flavors from the cornmeal batter and the mild flavored cod.The friendly staffer also gave me a sample of pork rib to try. Smoky aroma filled the air in front of me as I took a bite. Tender and lots of smoky flavor. Dry rub accented the mild pork flavor. Great tasting rib.Agua de Piedra was bubbly and I loved the refreshing flavor.2nd visit I tried the fried shrimp and chips. Loved the fries which were crispy and nicely seasoned. Shrimp had a crunchy batter and I loved the flavor of the seasoning. Great tasting dish. Excellent customer service at Bayside Fish & Chips. Order came out quickly.

I had the fish and chips with white fish, and my husband had the shrimp & fish and chips. Everything was well-seasoned and perfectly battered. The employees were nice and greeted us and took our order right away. I could say you could sit at a table to eat, but we brought our food home. The sauces were great, and the fish was PERFECT with the fresh lemon and malt vinegar! Lots of great seasoned fries too! - this place was worth every cent. We'll be returning for sure!

So this storefront has been open for about 2months, but I understand the business has been doing catering for a few years. The fish and chips was great, crispy cornmeal coating and the fish was moist and tasty. The shoestring fries were good. The coleslaw that came with was interesting I think they used pickle juice which made for a good flavor, but it also made the coleslaw too wet. The Smokey Beef fries, well the fries were good, but the beef was way over salted and seemed to covering an over smoked meat making me wonder if they smoke their own beef or use something like liquid smoke. Fortunately those went to my husband who doctors everything. Finally the clam chowder, I'd pass on this. I did see the vegetable clam broth that they took away and added some milk product. not what one would expect for a Clam Chowder. I will say the portions were generous. The interior is not unpleasant, definitely speaks to take out and the gentleman who served me was the only one there and appeared a bit stressed. Certainly didn't give me that warm Southern feel that would make me come back. I will give them a few months to settle in.

Got the combo catfish and shrimp plate to go. Cornmeal breading was light and crispy, and everything was tasty. Not pictured is the cole slaw, and variety of sauces provided. I'm going to try the white fish next time!

Excellent fried seafood. Both the fish and shrimp were crispy and moist. Really liked the cornmeal breading, which never got heavy or thick like some batters do. If you're craving fried fish/shrimp, this is your spot.
