My friend took us here after saying that it's one of his favorite places to get brunch, so my expectations were already high. Luckily, Barleymash actually exceeded my expectations! We ordered: -B'Fast Burger ($21): beef patty, cheddar, two fried eggs, bacon, ale aioli, bourbon brown butter hollandaise, barley bun, and fries. This was such a savory delight, and I love how there was no shortage of sauce. It was everything that I want a burger to be: juicy, tender, and savory. It also came with crispy fries, and if you know me, I can always eat fries. -Pretzel Benedict ($19.25): eggs benedict, bourbon brown butter hollandaise, roasted potato hash, and your choice of short rib, pork shoulder, or bacon. We loved the short rib, so I highly recommend that you pick short rib. It is so tender, and after eating it, you'll wish for more. It came with double fried crispy potatoes. I actually liked these even more than the fries because it was crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. -All In Barley Hash ($19.75): potato hash, short rib, pork shoulder, bacon, eggs, peppers, onions, and pepper jack beer cheese sauce. If you're craving protein, this is such a perfect entree to get! It's served on a hot skillet, so it stays sizzling hot as you're eating it. After eating all that we can, the three of us all took leftovers home. This really shows how filling each entree is, and how you really get your money's worth here. You will not leave here hungry! The place was pretty packed, so the food came out a bit slowly. However, our waitress was attentive, and stopped by several times to refill our water and to check to see how we were doing. The ambiance was a lot of fun, and we even saw a bachelorette party happening. This restaurant would be a great venue to host birthday gatherings, and other larger hang outs with friends!

Favorite SD food spot consistently the best. This place just does it right. I love it here. Eat here every time. The unique menu is always consistently good. A modern take on americana. Higher end ingredients. Heightened flavors. Heavy dishes that still have elegance and fill you up. The service here is great except for some reason they have rude hostesses. No idea why. Just stand off-ish. A simple hello goes a long way. It's not a nightclub during the day. Be courteous to your paying customers. The servers and bar backs are pretty on point. This is a locals tourist bar so i never get too offended by the home court advantage. Thats what makes the energy keep going. The service, food, and drinks move fast! Food served hot. Drinks, cold. Unless you want hot drinks. Great food. Ambiance is great. Place is always clean and never smells like a dirty party bar. It never smells of old alcohol or filled with fruit flies. Great bar/restaurant. Pics to come

Ate here two nights in a row, that's probably better than saying the food and service were great! It actually got better on the second night when we order the mushrooms Mac and cheese, Turkey hamburger and blue cheese fries. And to add to it the Padres had just played a great game during a 4th July week and so the ambiance was amazing.

My girl Amy is the BEST. She's so good at mixing drinks and she made sure we were taken care of all night. We ended up coming back just to see her because we had a blast. Such a cool spot!

Happy Hour time! Stopped in for some San Diego Happy Hour and was pleasantly surprised. We were seated very quickly by the very nice staff. We opted to sit outside since there was a wait inside due to the Padres game. We appreciated that the staff turned in the outdoor heaters because it was chilly. We ordered the spicy shrimp skillet and bacon blue cheese iron fries. Both appetizers were very good and seasoned perfectly. The only recommendation I would have is for the shrimp to be grilled and not boiled in water. I didn't care for the texture. However, the saucy was money with the bread. The minus one star is because the drinks were very inconsistent. The first round was perfect and the second round had to be sent back. All in all, I wouldn't go back but would recommend for others to try!

Just from the pure size of the place makes it cool I'm already a fan of downtown San Diego but this is a cool spot. Had a couple of beers and watched baseball. The servers were nice. It's a cool downtown bar

Gotta love Barleymash! Located on the corner of 5th Ave. and Market St. in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, this place is where you want to be any night of the week. I've only been here twice, but I love the setup and that there's a DJ spinning sick beats nightly (I think?!). My kind of music, and although there didn't seem to be a designated dance floor, you can dance wherever your little heart desires! On my first visit, I didn't know about the bar downstairs, as we stayed upstairs at the huge bar. That thing is pretty massive, and there are seats all around it. The bar downstairs is considerably smaller, but that would be a good place to host a private party. The staff is very attentive, and they're also super friendly. They do have security at the doors checking IDs, but I think they're only there after a certain time. I wanna say that after 9 p.m., they start checking to keep the young 'uns out? Lol, don't quote me on that! The food is freaking DELICIOUS!! I didn't order any food the first time. The second time, I definitely ate, but Idk what the dishes were called since friends just ordered, and the food magically appeared in front of me, haha! The mac and cheese dish was bomb!! So damn good and bursting with flavor. I think it had pancetta or bacon bits. Whatever the fries were, they were so damn good I had to force myself to stop eating!! The drinks will leave you wanting more. I'm a fan of Barleymash and will be heading back again sooner or later. Bonus: it's 2 blocks away from that bomb-dizzle taco spot we all know and love, Tacos El Gordo!! So, if you're still hangered, it's just a quick hop, skip, and jump away! Knock yourself out!!

We stopped in during lunch time and were seated quickly. The decor was your typical bar scene but found it odd there is a photo of a woman in lingerie by the bathrooms(if bringing your kiddos). Food was hit or miss. My wife got the pork fries which was underwhelming but I got the mushroom Mac and it was one of the best Mac's I've ever had. Kiddos had burgers and they were good. Overall pricing was in line with other similar places. Parking might be hard to find nearby.
