Great speakeasy in a Japanese bakery, you tell the cashier and a secret door just kinda opens, taking you to a different dimension. Dark, lively, and cool, you Narnia™or get Spirited Away™ to an adult space. My partner and I had visited, we wondered what a business casual dress code bar would be like, but it was fancy. A little loud, we had to get real close and intimate to have a conversation. Perhaps that's the goal. So for those who want to keep people in the friend zone, maybe avoid the location, but those who want to take a leap and get closer to that special someone, go for it. lolThe cocktails all cost around 15-20$ but it was an experience! We started with the melon highball (my intimate conversation partner ordered) and the umeboshi sour (for me). Umeboshi is one of my favorite foods, and if I were not headed towards a life with high blood pressure(curse my Japanese genes!!) I would probably have this cocktail every day in the summer after a nice workout. Get back my lost sodium. The melon highball was so SO refreshing. My partner is 6ft (and I am 5ft) we both agreed we can pound these all night. Even me. Then we ordered the ube jungle bird (partner) and jiro dreams of breakfast. I personally was so interested in the kombu-infused sake and honestly it was interesting. Salt rim, kombu sake, mint and notes of lime and citrus... it was missing the middle notes(?) the base of umami was there and the top note was there with the refreshing lime and mint. But something was missing. Like a meal missing an entree. We spent the rest of the night wondering what the missing aspect was and maybe a sweet miso? shinshu miso + sweet liquor(?). The ube jungle bird?!?! nutty, tropical yet ube not overpowering, it felt like drinking Christmas on a tropical island. We ended on Hojicha Negroni, and ramen cocktail. Lemme talk about the ramen cocktail (5th element). It was fully formed unlike jiro, it had kombu sake, miso, pork fat washed alcohol. Um. It was an experience. I don't regret it, but I'm not sure... I may be back to try to form an opinion on it. INTERESTING IT WAS I'm going to rave about the Negroni. Refreshing and pleasant, it was a great drink to finish off the night. It comes with a Swiss chocolate so it even comes with a lil snack~ the Hojicha lingers so nice, it was probably my favorite drink of the night. My partner liked the melon highball. All in alll, great experience, made me want to infuse my sake with kombu and try cooking and making drinks. Thanks for the inspiration and experience. We'll be back!I need to figure out jiro.

Feeling like I got whisked back to 1920s Japan in this beautiful, Japanese and zen-inspired whiskey lounge. This was probably the least crowded and most spacious speakeasy that I went to in San Diego, which really reinforced the exclusive feelings of finding and being in a real speakeasy. As for the drinks, most of them had a weird artificial syrupy flavor that I could taste. Some of the textures and flavors were also really off, such as the ube junglebird, which had a refreshing, clear liquid on the bottom and a thick, warm and creamy ube cream on top that did not physically mix together. My favorite was The Stache, which reminds me of a cheese foam milk tea drink, while my boyfriend loved the black sesame old fashioned and trash panda (which actually has an authentic durian flavor that is pungent). Overall, would highly recommend checking out this elegant speakeasy, especially for their beautiful Zen decor and Asian-inspired cocktails. Service was also kind and attentive, and the bartender seemed happy to talk to customers, although we personally didn't get a chance to talk to him.

I was grabbing ice cream croissants with a friend when I saw what I thought was a wall opening up a door into a secret bar. This secret entry was to Bar Kamon! To enter you must make a reservation and ask the counter for entrance. Once you step inside, you are instantly transported into a bar that feels like you're in Japan. Such great ambiance, music and service! The drinks are also delicious and have a well thought out menu! Will come back next time to try out their food. A definite must visit!

Inside is smaller and more intimate than I expected from pictures. But honestly it was great! I ended up loving the seating, our server and our drinks. They have a bunch of specialty drinks that are fun to try and pass around your group. It's easy to relax and feel comfortable here. Parking was really rough for us but we called ahead and let them know our situation and they were extremely understanding. I would come back!

What a pleasant surprise! Located within a secret door of the famous Asa bakery is this Japanese inspired speakeasy which opens up in the night when the bakery is closed. It is small but intimate and beautifully decorated. They have bar seating, small tables scattered around, and one large lounge private room in the back for larger groups of 8-10 people (we were in this room and it was amazing!). The service did not disappoint. Someone checked in throughout the evening to see if we needed anything. Everyone was friendly, professional, and inviting. The food and drinks were a perfect night cap to our evening out! The selection of appetizers and snacks were fresh, tasty, and melted in our mouths. Everything came out within a few minutes. Everyone was happy with their drinks which were reasonably priced. They are known for their glass length ice which kept my drink cold. Only downside is trying to find parking in downtown SD is always impossible but not the speakeasy's fault ;) arrive early to hunt for parking.

Very nice and aesthetic speakeasy hidden inside Asa bakery. Service was great and the drinks were delicious. We tried the Trash Panda which was surprisingly light and refreshing. I have never seen a durian cocktail before but the durian flavor was light and didn't over power the drink. The Umeboshi sour was also really good and was my favorite drink there. My partner tried the black sesame old fashioned which had a light black sesame finish and Jiro Dreams of Breakfast which was great. Chicken karaage was juicy, crispy and complimented the drinks well. Would definitely come back to try their other drinks!

Super cute Asian inspired speakeasy inside the bakery. Reservations are always recommended unless you go on an off day. Inside you'll be transported into a sophisticated bar that seats about 50 people. We sat at the bar and had some drinks and food. katsu chicken sandwich was very flavorful. The bread was so soft and a good portion to share between 2 people. The drinks are fancy, fun, and very good. I had the Melon Higball and it was fruity, and very refreshing.I would love to come back and try other items on the menu.

Speakeasy in Asa Bakery, super cool!!! You get to through the secret door to Bar Kamon for some good eats and Asian cocktails. Reasonably priced and delicious, unique drinks. Come early or make a reservation! Took us 50 minutes on a Saturday to get seated for 2 people. Worth the wait and there's stuff to do in the area. Ambiance was rad and the service was great! I only don't recommend getting a tiny bowl of bar snacks for $5, that is indeed a scam. Thought it would be bigger smh

My friends and I loved our experience! It just got hot inside after a little bit. Park on the street and go through Asa Cafe Bakery. We ordered the Karaage and Crispy Spicy Tuna. Both were really good! I just wished the crispy spicy tuna was cheaper for it only being 5 pieces. My friends and I also thought the caviar didn't do much on elevating the flavor. The Karaage was perfectly crispy, salty, and sweet. The bartender that made our drinks was helpful and did a great job. I got the Stache and it was perfect! I don't like the taste of alcohol and the foam on the top helped mask the alcohol taste. The restroom is in the back and you also have to leave through the back.

Our server was fantastic! I forgot his name but on the receipt it says Bar K.. He made lots of good recommendations to our liking. The drinks were so well crafted! The vibes and atmosphere were great and chill. My friend and I made reservations and were quickly seated. The interior was dimly lit and vintage looking. We ordered the ube jungle bird, melon highball, and the Stache. Rum, pistachio and cheese foam?! I was intrigued and actually impressed on the smooth subtle flavor. Melon highball was my fave! My friend really liked her ube jingle bird drink. So photogenic. Nagoya karaage -- needed a tad bit more salt. Appreciate the big pieces of chicken but to me, I think karaage should be smaller? crispy spicy tuna with caviar -- I thought was overpriced, probably due to the caviar. I think I would prefer the spicy tuna rice more than bread. I think I would want to try the chicken katsu sando or scallops dish next time! Overall, I would come back.
