ZZ Pizza & Kabob

I am amazed that I had no idea ZZ Pizza & Kabob existed until a Yelp Elite event directed me here.I had the hot honey pizza and was soooooo happy with it. I got all the satisfaction of eating a pizza with trying a new food. I honestly don't know how I haven't ended up back there after a workout yet.

I've never been to their store in person but I order from them often on Slice and I've dealt with the folks there a couple of times via phone or delivery. Staff is always a pleasure.Their food (I've tried their pizza, subs, fries, wings, tenders, calzones, salad, falafel/chickpeas/rice/spinach, biryani) is really all tasty. I always get compliments when I offer their pizza at gatherings because it's light (thin crust, not dense) but flavorful. zzPizza has a definite "local business" attitude and comportment. If you're lucky enough to live nearby and have them as a possible delivery go-to, take advantage!!

When ZZ opened, we went out of our way to patronize them. The food was great for a local carry out. When the kids ordered pizza, we made sure they ordered from ZZ. We often called ZZ to bring food to the pool and promoted them to other members.Over the years, I've heard lots of complaints about service, the quality of the food, the changing menu, as well as other grievances. At a certain point, the kids refused to patronize ZZ's. Today, I thought I'd give them another chance. I ordered a veggie sub. The young woman behind the counter was a bit short with me, but I at first made nothing of it. It's only when I get home, open up the wrapping, and find that she gave me a meat sub that I began to suspect something was up. It was confirmed when I came back. She made me wait before dealing with me and then tried to gaslight me my saying I ordered a meat sub and not a veggie sub. It was weird, and she refused to refund my money at first after I realized she was messing with me. After yelling at me, another staff member must have told her to give me a refund. Even as she's returning a partial refund (I was two dollars short), she continued to badger me. I really believe I faced discrimination and may file a complaint with the Human Relations Commission. We can't have businesses treat us with open hostility.

I like pizza and I like theirs. Being Hilal is a plus! You can have your toppings minus the pork. This is my go to pizza place. Hopefully others will have positive experiences as I have.

We ordered a large pizza and it was great-ready on time, perfect temperature and tasty.

I have never been to ZZ Pizza's physical location, but after my experience on Saturday, I plan on checking them out soon. This was a relatively large online order so I can only speak on the quality and the customer service. The online order/transaction thru Yelp was decent although it took me a minute to distinguish adding a special vs a regular order. Also, and this is quite minor, I asked them to deliver the pizza at 1:15 pm and the pizzas arrived at 12:40 pm. Luckily the students who came to our workshop were really early so it actually worked out perfectly. Under other conditions.....mmmm.The delivery man was very friendly. I wasn't a fan of pre-paying for tip, but $2 ain't never hurt nobody (I hope!). We'll be using ZZ Pizza again for our end of the month meeting.

I have had terrible experiences with their customer service. The food actually tastes good - but the odds of getting the food on time, or at all, are shockingly low. The prior two times I ordered from them: 1. Once I ordered pizza to be delivered for my son and a babysitter online, got confirmation, etc. As my wife and I were out, we got a call from the babysitter: No pizza. So I interrupted my date to call the place, and got no answer. I tried and tried, and then called the other Zz Pizza operation, which reported that their Mt. Rainier store was out of electricity. How is a customer supposed to deal with that? When I finally called the other store they offered to deliver -- three hours later, well after my son and his friend would have gone to bed.2. Later I ordered to the PG Pool, where they deliver regularly, only a few minutes away, on a regular Sunday afternoon. Again the order went through, and again: No pizza after more than an hour. I called and called, got no answer. In frustration I got in my car and drove by to find the store flat-out-closed in the middle of a weekend. Lights out, no one home. In frustration I called the other store in DC, and yet again was told, "We can deliver one for you in a few hours." What is up with that? I have heard from other neighbors in Mt. Rainier and Northeast DC that their delivery has gotten increasingly unreliable, but that is just beyond the pale. I am not ordering from there again.

I first heard of it when I got the carry-out style paper menu in the mail. I was skeptical at first considering there are too many crappy carryouts around here. The first thing I ordered was a pizza because it's the first thing on the menu and you can really tell a place by the pizza. Not 100% true with this place They do have some unique styles of pizza, but it's not the best tasting. I got a "NY Stake Pizza" (and yes I know how to spell, there are numerous spelling errors on the menu) it has Philly Cheese Steak on it which is odd because it's called a New York pizza....The second time I ordered from them I got a "Meat Special" Strombolli. Mmmmm....It was huge!!! and it really did have every meat!!! From Pepperoni, Sausage, Cheese Steak, Bacon... and it was really good too!!!!Third time I ordered I got a Gyro with lamb AND chicken.The chicken was not a strip of frozen deep fried chicken like a lot of other carryouts, the chicken was cubed up but it was good quality grilled chicken breast! and the lamb wasn't half bad either. Home-Made tziki sauce too!!! It came with fries, but by the time they got to our house they were soggy. My fiance tiffany, ordered a Philly Cheese Steak Sub.... a whole one.... it was hugggeee. It says its sup[posed to be a 12 inch sub but i swear it was 16 inches. and it was sooo good. It didn't come with fries tho, and it was a bit pricey for not coming with fries.They also have 30 different types of milk shakes which all taste like they're supposed to and they are thick and creamy! YUM!! I got mint and it was amazing. They also have items you wouldn't find in a normal carryout. Like Kabobs, and quesadillas. which I haven't tried yet. They have a full section for vegetarian food, and a healthy choices section.This place has some downfalls but i'd call it, sit down qualtiy food, for delivery!Ps. Delivery time is about 20-25 minutes but its only 3 blocks away... its worth it tho!!- Rocket

Terrible customer service..food was okay.Went at lunchtime and wasn't offered the lunch specials?Makes this spot questionable and out for a buck!

Update: THE HUMMUS IS SO GOOD!!! - The secret star of their menu in my opinion... It is some of the best I've had anywhere - so fresh and creamy, with delicious tahini and spices. I have ordered more just to stock my fridge with it. Better than any grocery store hummus I've had (and that's a lot)! Whatever else you order here, if you like hummus, ORDER THE HUMMUS.
