I had been here years ago when I lived in the neighborhood and my husband and I frequent it now especially when we don't feel like dealing with parking on the avenue/Wine Source. The staff is always friendly and helpful and I have enjoyed going to a wine tasting downstairs in their cellar. They have a decent selection of wine, craft beers, and spirits. Prices are comparable to Wine Source. Once I had a money mix up with Rakesh and I didn't get a receipt and am pretty sure I overpaid by $ 20 but it was my fault for being distracted and not asking for a receipt. Now I always ask for receipts, despite Rakesh not working there anymore.Overall it's a solid neighborhood shop and I am glad it's nearby.

I loved this tucked away wine store. The two owners were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I rarely leave there unhappy with my selection. It's not an expansive collection, but has wide representation. It's also convenient to NE Baltimore and has a secure feeling. But, the store was recently sold and I've gotten awful service since. Previously, I could find anything I needed and be happy with the price and vintage. Now, they read labels off to me and never seem sure about what it is they have or what I'm looking for.I think you're better off at some of the other stores in the Hampden area rather than this one.

This store is truly a gem. When I wanted to find Maynard James Keenan's Stronghold or Caduceus brands, I found this place online that carried them. When I got there the guys working there were awesome, we must have talked for about an hour about beer wine and music. I have since tried many of the owners suggestions. I even got one for my Mom for her birthday and it was amazing. I just moved to the area so I don't have to drive 30 min to stop by anymore and it's awesome. They also have a great beer selection too and the wine is cheaper than the other puppy-mill hipster wine stores around town.

I'm writing this as I enjoy a wonderful red wine recommended by Rakesh. This is the best wine shop in the area. Everything in the store is very curated and Rakesh knows about everything that he carries. Whenever I ask a question about a beer or wine or ask for a recommendation, he always tells me exactly what to expect from it. He's never steered me wrong. This is just a great wine and beer shop and I've always left happy. I always enjoy chatting with the employees and there is always a new wine or beer to try. We just moved to within a half mile of the place and I love being able to walk to it for tastings or just to pick up something to pair with dinner.

Wine Underground is a surprising little shop- you wouldn't even realize it is there! There is plenty of street parking which is a huge plus for me.They have Wine and liquor specials, also frequent wine tastings.I've been to several of the wine tastings now, they were fun & I learned alot. Also I love the tastings so I can try new varieties, then I can venture out and buy something new already knowing if I like it! :)There are also specialty beers which are fun to try also!

Whenever I need some expert opinion on a nice bottle of wine, Wine Underground is my first stop. The guys inside are always friendly and ready to recommend the perfect bottle for whatever my needs. Last time I was here, I was buying a bottle as a gift. I said "I need a red that will go really well with a steak." Right away, he took me over to a nice bottle which my boyfriend really enjoyed that night. For such a small place, they really have a great selection and I never leave disappointed!

This is a locally owned wine store and really great. Rakesh is really great - he's always helpful, knowledgable, and always happy to spend time having a friendly conversation - not to mention his kid is really sweet. They have a great selection and very competitive prices. The celler (hence their name) is filled with a impressive selection of wonderful wines. Don't miss going down there. Always have specials for something - some unique liquors & wines that many area stores don't carry. Not to mention - it's a heck of a lot easier parking 10 feet away from the door...not having to wait on one of the only7 parking spots some wine shop has nearby (so it's not the only SOURCE for great wines).Go there! Just ignore the bad Mondrian painted building - and enjoy a pleasant shopping experience.

I found myself here for the first time today and will most definitely be back. The place is interesting and the proprietor Rakesh was pleasant to talk to, quick with suggestions but not pushy, and seemed knowledgeable. Despite warnings about the smallness and limited selection it didn't feel that way to me at all. Sure, they don't have everything you have ever heard of and they don't stock piles of mainstream beers and liquors, BUT they probably have something similar that you may not have heard of, and if you need something really exotic they can get it. Those characteristics make it feel like a good place to look for gifts or to experiment (for beer as well as wine). Not sure about the competitiveness of prices, but they have a decent case discount. The store is located on a residential street corner set back from the main streets, which is a charming feature, though I would imagine it can't be great for business. At least we'll always have Yelp.Bottom line: Whether you're into wine or a total noob, if you haven't been here yet you owe it to yourself to check it out -- and make sure you go downstairs to see the cellar!

I love this place. Its a good antidote to the larger wine shops in the area. Instead of 7 indifferent cashiers you always see the same person here and he is great. Their wine selection feels more hand picked than larger stores.

This is where you go when you want wine, and you want knowledge about wine. Don't go for the selection, don't go for the prices (though there are some steals). Go because they know their stuff and will send you out the door with what you need.
