Stopped by yesterday (Sunday) afternoon for a drink with friends and definitely was not disappointed! The bartender was funny, quick and really attentive. All of the drinks were delicious, particularly the coffee based ones! We were the first ones in the bar, but in fairness it was snowing and I think the bar just opened. The seats are like saddles, but you can toggle them and sit in it like a normal chair. Either way, the place is really big and has two bars which started to fill up when we were leaving.

Really cool historical bar with amazing decor, energy and ambiance. The night I popped in there was live music. Bathrooms were really clean and had an attendant. Great bar to hang out at and enjoy the vibes.

This is a legendary bar. It was the legend of Edgar Allen Poe that brought me in. Which I was hoping for an old fashion bar to some how still exist, this was very much not what I found. I may not have got what I was looking for entirely, but I did find very pleasant service, lively people, a comforting bar environment some wood and noods to its very old roots. Love the current beer choices on the East Coast, like Dogfish Head on tap! Yes please!

First time visiting with friends and was a great experience. Lots of western decor and embraces the Texas lifestyle while in Baltimore.Drinks were reasonably priced and does get packed on weekdays/weekends. Lots of great local beers on tap to meet any palette.Highly recommend visiting and grab a souvenir.

Was looking for things 2 do in Baltimore.. so I decided to come to the oldest bar in the country.. I came in on July 3rd, so the place was pretty empty..but so was every other place.. but hitting up the oldest bar in the country is an easy future Icebreaker..The bar was nice though, right by the water.. They were playing live music and the chairs were in the shape of a horseshoe..

I don't travel to Baltimore that often but when I do, I'm going to hit this bar. It's located in the historic harbor area of Baltimore. This super historic bar is beyond cool and rich with history. They have always had live music and it's always been solid. The bartenders are very experienced and make great drinks. Never tried the food but I would recommend this place as a wonderful place to hang out with friends to listen to good, live music.

A poet's last stop -- and as I stepped out its narrow door onto the pleasantly cool brick street at the end of the night, I too felt (in the most respectful way) that I could be found mysteriously expired in the gutter the next morning.Seemingly a hotspot for tourist and townie alike, conversations at the bar ranged from a crash course in local brewing history to an overview of Maryland's waterways and nautical culture, with brief interludes about the word "yuppie" drifting back into the local lexicon and when a man can and can't pull off a mustache. The oldest continually operating saloon in the United States (open since 1775!), the Horse saloon is aware of its connection to Poe but lets you forget it in favor of saddle seats, a visual horse gag for the times, and live music all night. The walls are plastered in a blend of east coast and old world Americana, and the bathrooms were a step up from what I've come to expect from my usual dives. At one point, a young woman came in and asked where another popular local bar was, and while others may have told her to pound sand, the bartender gave her wholly non-sardonic instructions on how to get where she wanted to go. I liked that. For one night in a city I had no business being in, this little hole in the wall felt like home. Check it out if you appreciate colonial history and local color. I'm told the beer isn't as cheap as it was just a few years ago, but where is it?

Came here for the history and experience. The guy playing acoustic music was awesome, but the bartender could care less if you were bleeding to death. Oh well, the bathroom is clean and the beers are cold. Not a bad place to try out especially if you like history and live music.

Known for being the oldest saloon and the last place Edgar Allan Poe was seen before his death, The Horse You Came In On Saloon is one of those places that everyone visits when in Baltimore due to its history, and we stopped in for drinks after the ghost tour. The main area of the saloon was not my kind of scene -- it was chaotic and packed with young people dancing to extremely loud music, but at the back there was another bar area that was for older people -- not too loud, and with seating. I ordered an Old Fashioned, which lead into a conversation about bourbon with the bartender, who was a young girl who looked about the age of 12. But as the saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover, and to my surprise, she had heard of Blade and Bow and actually jumped up and shrieked in excitement when I mentioned it! My husband and I were there for a couple of hours, getting pretty drunk, enjoying our last night in Baltimore. There's nothing special about the saloon, but we had a pretty good time. Thank goodness there was a quieter area in the back![Yelp collections: East Coast 2022; Baltimore, MD 2022]
