Tempoo Restaurant

I'm not sure if it's a new owner but the prices have went up crazy! My gin and tonic went from $8 to $20!They are now DC prices without the DC ambience. The music is great though. People are always dancing and enjoying a good time. I have yet to eat there so can not review on the food. I wouldn't mind coming back but it wouldn't be my first choice.

My husband and I were looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon this restaurant. Baby when I say, the food is GOOD. The food is good. It's flavorful and the portions are good. My husband and I both had the red snapper. The owner and staff are also nice. The owner came over and spoke to us multiple times throughout the night. Oh, yeah, don't get me started on the drinks. The drinks are also good. 10/10 I highly recommend you will not be disappointed.

This place is so much different than any other restaurant I have been in. We tried this place out because of the five stars reviews on Google and Yelp. When we walked in, they sat us at a table, then the owner, TJ, came to us and asked, "what do you want here?". It was a really weird question to ask customers. We were like "food!". Then he was, "do you know what you want?". We were not sure what we wanted because it was our first time there, and he did not even give us a menu yet but asked us what we wanted. It was a bit weird. We told him that it was our first time here and we wanted to try to food out. He finally gave us the menu. The menu was a one-page paper. He asked us if we wanted to try the food out, he will provide us with something different from the menu. We asked for chicken, fish, and meat as our main dishes. With the drink, they gave us a punch that tastes good and very gingerly. He also asked us if we wanted anything while waiting for the main dishes. He told us to try their kabob. The kabob tastes like beef jerky with a spicy powder and onion pickles on top. We are all like the kabob.I personally like the fish the best among the main dishes. The fish dish has plantains, I like the plantains, but my friends do not like the plantains. The chicken was okay, and the meat was assorted, so it tastes a bit weird to me, but one of my friends likes the meat. The price was pricy there. It was more expensive than we expected. And because what he gave us was not on the menu, we have no idea if the price was right. He told us he gave us a bit of everything to try out. Customer service was a bit weird when they asked you want do you want here but did not give you any menu. Lol. This place is fun to try once, but I don't think we will come back again.

The restaurant hours are listed wrong They are not open for lunch. I was looking forward to trying their fish based on the reviews I saw on yelp. I was told to come back at 5p . I was very disappointed. Not sure how to tell when they will be open. It looked like a nice place. I was surprised with the location cause I have passed by many times.

This was a nice hidden gem we stumbled across on our brief time through town. We always aim to support black owned business -- so of course we were excited to try it out. The owner, TJ, was very hospitable and helped us on what to order. Everything was DELICIOUS. Service is quick, food was fresh, and everything perfectly seasoned. The best red snapper we have ever had. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food and even greater service!

Maaaan! This food is excellent EVERY single time I come here. I've had the chicken, the beef, the shrimp and scallops, the plantains, and the Jollof rice. They haven't missed yet! As long as it's not Sunday or Monday, if you go there during business hours and it looks closed, just push the button, the owner will be right out. It's worth it!

I recently moved to the area, and my visiting family chose Tempoo for dinner. The owner, TJ, warmly welcomed us and offered to make us dishes across the menu at his recommendation rather than ordering ourselves. Every single dish was packed with flavor from the punch of the homemade Fizze drink to the delightfully carmalized Suya to the carefully seasoned Red Snapper with pickled onions and peppers. I couldn't pick a favorite, and I can't imagine missing any single dish we got to eat. Exquisite African dining at an unbelievable price with the best customer service. Will be coming back!

My girlfriend and I came on a random Wednesday around 7:30 pm for food and drinks. I really enjoyed their efo elegusi. The owner was kind and accommodating. The music was great and there is def a nice vibe to the place. Will be returning soon!

The food was phenomenal wow the pompano fish just outstanding and the jollof too. Good music and ambiance in the restaurant and the owner was a nice man!

ONLY ONE OTHER THING MAKES HIS EYES ROLL TO THE BACK OF HIS HEAD. My Husband's eyes rolled to tu he back of his head when he too the first bite of the SPINACH, with SALMON, SHRIMPand SCALLOPS served with coconut white rice and plantain. He then continued to made sounds of admiration throughout the entire meal. Luckily we were at home. For the rest of the family we had the RED SNAPPER fried with red sauce and onion and green pepper, with a side of jollof rice and spinach. We all really enjoyed all the food. The fish was made to order, so be patient. Although we did not have to wait too long, but definitely worth it. The owner was extremely warm and welcoming, as though you were visiting his home. As we spoke he made us his signature punch, which was delicious. We will definitely be back. He opened a few days before the pandemic, and had to close. So glad Tempoo is back and ready to accept you. Also, I called and the call did not seem to go through. But the owner could see the call, and called me back. I was impressed with his customer service, even before I stepped foot in the door.
