I stopped by without planning ahead because it was one of the nearby restaurants with tamales. I was having a craving! There were only 4 patrons when we arrived on Monday night. We were greeted immediately and proceeded to the bar to place a to-go order. We ordered 3 chicken tamales, 3 beef tacos and plantains. The food was ready in about 15 min and it was packaged well and hot. Unfortunately, once we unpacked the food at home, we realized we received the wrong order. What should have been beef tacos were actually chicken taquitos. They were ok. The tamales were fresh but lacked sufficient meat so I it felt like I was just eating breading thus, I didn't finish them. They also needed more seasoning. I have had better Mexican food elsewhere. In contrast, the plantains were excellent! Overall, the 3 stars is for the freshness not the flavor (with the plantains as the exception).

This was some good Mexican food. It reminded me of a chill lunge which sold great food. The tamale de pollo and pollo asada were both really flavorful. The tamale reminded me of a chicken pot pie without the crust. The service was good. I think they make their corn tortillas in-house.

Tela Mares has beautiful decorations that makes for a great atmosphere and photo-op. They have a "tunes juxebox" electronic thing so that you can play your music (you have to pay). The restaurant had no music playing but my family played some on the jukebox for the birthday boy and it set the vibe for the dinner. I ordered a tamarindo juice drink and it was absolutely amazing, the perfect amount of sweetness. I ordered the "Plato el trovador" which consists of beef, chicken fajita, shrimp and bbq ribs served with rice, beans and salad. Mexican food is my favorite therefore I can genuinely say the food was delicious. Sadly they were out of cake /deserts and this was a birthday dinner so that was a little disappointing. The food gets a solid 4/5 stars because it was delicious but I wouldn't say its the best. Not overpriced at all, very good pricing on the food. I recommend this place for dinner or birthday (mention the cake before to ensure they don't run out ahead of time)

Hadn't been here in about a year and it was great to walk back into this nice atmosphere. I dined solo, so just had chips, a Negro Mexican beer, and the Tacos al Pastor. All were served quickly and were excellent.Glad to support a family business too!

This is my favorite spot for tamales and pupusas. Highly recommend the chicken tamal, and my favorite pupusa is loroco, but they're all good. The nachos are another fav. I love when every chip is loved on and adorned with equal amounts of delicious! The steak nachos are my fav, but chicken is good too (haven't had the others).All in all, it's a solid spot. Not my top choice for tacos, but they are also pretty good. Try it out!

The salsa that went with the chips was delicate yet carried enough of a spicy tinge. The chips were fresh, crunchy, and tasty.I had the the Sopa de Marisco and I couldn't believe the generous portions of seafood (clam, mussels, fish, calamari, and shrimp). The broth was just right - not too much or too little salt and the flavor was amazing.There was so much soup (it came in a 24 oz bowl) that I was able to save some in a plastic tub they provided upon request and take it home for another meal.The decor and quality of the interior was impeccably clean and pleasant.This is a place to go if you and the gals/pals want some great affordable Mexican food or if you want to impress a date.

No question about the food it's goodUsually I'm a good tipper, there is people there they over charge tips as well as much as your pay for the food it's almost paying doble I had asked for some food to take outAnd I got charged again extra $7 dollars as a tip afterwards If you give credit cards they do even worse. I have no Money problems coming to pay for what I likeIt's all about coming for the tip. They're money hungry They don't care. They just take whatever come to their minds no coming back. They did it twice so enough it's enough :/ no rating

Ceviche mixto was just not good. Sitting in a puddle of brown liquid, hardly any flavor, salt, or taste of lime. Weird looking shrimp pieces. Funny because a review from nine years ago says basically the same thing - you'd think someone would've given it a second thought by now, it doesn't even look palatable. Guacamole was also pretty mediocre. Margarita tasted like they thought I wanted it virgin. Servers were nice at least.Check out bmore taqueria if you want to have some good ceviche.

Strawberry margaritas and their Bistec Mexicano which is steak flavoured to perfection with peppers and onions with rice that is so good (steamed with vegetables with homemade beans refried !!! I did take out twice from this place, and their food is absolutely delicious!! the portions are very generous, and the prices were great, especially compared to DC prices. i had the special platter with lobster and rice, and other seafoods. i loved it so much that i ordered the same dish again. I am sad that there is no comparable price in Montgomery COunty, MD.
