Savior African Food is a low key, small business restaurant. I really wanted to try their Oxtail Stew, but unfortunately they did not have any oxtail available. So instead I got the Assorted Meat with Jollof Rice ($13) and my partner got the Curry Goat, which also came with Jollof Rice and Plaintains ($16). I was disappointed with the Assorted Meat dish. It seemed like it was leftover, old meat that they were trying the get rid of. The fried fish that came with the dish was extremely dry and over cooked to the point that it was inedible. There was what seemed to be a beef tendon, which was too chewy and pieces of beef, which are touch and stringy. I would not call this an Assorted Meat dish. To top it off, the meat was smothered in a tomato-based sauce, which I think was unnecessary. The curry goat had good flavor, but the Jollof rice and plantains were the best. The rice was packed with so much flavor and even had a slight spicy kick to it. I loved the Jollof rice so much that I plan to try the recipe out myself. The dining area is pretty small as well - about 10 diners could eat. They do seem to have a fly issue and the bathroom is unisex and clean, but unfortunately there was no hand soap. Fortunately, they had a sink with hand soap in the dining area that I could use, but no napkins. They had a wide variety of beverages in their fridge ranging from regular sodas to Malta and Jamaican sodas. Overall, I think this place is worth trying. It hi n I just ordered a poorly executed dish and would give this place a 3.5 instead of a 3. I would come back again, if I'm ever in the area, just for their rice and plantains and update my review. However, I do believe they could re-vamp the place to make it more welcoming (getting rid of the flies and properly stocking the bathroom).
