The BBQ was excellent! (We had pulled chicken sandwich and an Austin brisket sandwich.) The collards greens were fantastic as well.

Tucked inside a higher-end bodega, this location does a brisk carryout business. They have a good, varied menu and great fries. The guy taking orders was very helpful and friendly. The food takes a while to prepare so you want to order ahead. They have a sister location on New Mexico Ave. Try the strawberry lemonade!

The St. Louis ribs are definitely the stand out dish! Falling-off-the-bone tender, it earns an "eat with your hands endorsement". The dry rub is excellent, and the ribs stand on their own even without sauce. It's a quality cut of meat, not all bone and cartilage. The broasted chicken is also very good, moist and tasty. However, we found our order of the Texas prime brisket to be dry, and not a particularly great cut of meat. Don't forget a good selection of comfort food sides: Oma's cheesy Tennessee potatoes are my favorite. The cornbread comes with jalapeño jelly and the fried okra comes with a zippy aioli. It's not quite crispy with takeout (understandably), but we'll look forward to dining in when there isn't a COVID surge underway. Service is always prompt and friendly and our orders have been packaged well and well-timed so that the food is nice and hot at pick up.

Ordered the Burnt ends cheddar biscuits. Ends were 50% inedible. Only half were tender enough to chew thoroughly and some had a lot of fat. They looked and tasted "old". The overpriced biscuits were inconsistent. The first one was tasty with a crisp shell. The second was very spicy. I like spicy food but wasn't prepared for it after the first. And the second also tasted "old". Almost musty. I have eaten here before and rather enjoyed it. Not so much this time. If I do go back I'll get something else......

I think their St. Louis ribs are outstanding. My family adores them; we get a half rack without the bread and side, and it runs $14 and some change (includes tax).Other menu selections that are respectable include burnt ends; fried okra; and Texas sidewinder fries (plain or loaded).Sandwiches are what they offer most, but I've not had many of them. I favor the larger cuts of meats, such as pork ribs and prime beef ribs.I'm not keen on their granny's apple slaw or mother-in-slaw. Ditto on the slices of white bread.I appreciate the way the food items are carefully boxed up and placed in a paper bag with strong handles for carry-out--very important for transporting a long distance. In fact, carry-out is the only option at Pitmasters Back Alley. There is no dining on-site.

(This review is for the MacArthur Blvd. location). Easy to give this place five stars. Everything I've had has been delicious (including side dishes) and my dining companions have said the same. I'm going to keep returning and work my way through the entire menu. Also, the pricing is reasonable. There is a very nice shaded outdoor dining area. (There is also some indoor seating). The staff are absolutely delightful, helpful, and accommodating. Parking has been plentiful.

Now... let me first start by saying when I was leaving the manager "dapped" me up ... he won me over as a customer since then. I mean, very homey feeling. Laid back. I mean people walking around. Everyone talking to asking you wanna try different food and trying this . I got a brisket sandwich to-go with fries. An as soon as I se em my sandwich I knew this had to be ate immediately. Very tasty and different from conventional barbecue places they have multiple choices of different sides of different sandwiches different salads just protein I mean is really hard to give this place a bad review I mean just off the people and the environment five stars all the way around definitely coming back really appreciate it

The brisket is so good, just as good as Texas. 10/10 for quick and pleasant service and ambiance. A fair amount of sides upgrades at a reasonable cost.

Egg shell in cornbread. Was excited to try this place. Never had a big piece of eggshell in any food I've ordered anywhere. So this is a first.
