My first stop at this place even though I have wanted to try it for some time. Ordered at the counter for take out and it took 30 minutes to get my order. May be best to order in advance. We tried three sides and they were good, not anything spectacular, but good. The pulled bbq was tangy and I liked it. I would definitely get it again. We wanted the ribs, but they were sold out when I came about 5 PM. I also ordered wings and requested that they were extra crispy, but they were extra soft, so I was pretty disappointed in that. The insides of the wings were too pink for me, so I had to put them into the microwave to make sure they were cooked. I'll give them another try the ribs.

Haven't been here for years but Sea King was always known for good food. However things have changed drastically. Ordered the Colossal Crab cake Platter which I thought was way overpriced (even for 2 cakes). They contained very little lump crab meat. Mostly smaller bits and pieces and lots of filler. This proved to be a big disappointment and assured I would not return again. Certainly not the same quality it used to be. Perhaps the BBQ focus has put the seafood on the back burner? At any rate, if you want good crab cakes go to Fratellis in Hampstead Md or maybe Jimmy's or G&M.

We ordered delivery from here through GrubHub because our go-to BBQ place does not deliver to our new address. We got the full rack of wet ribs, the beef brisket sandwich with horseradish and bbq, a side of macaroni and cheese and of greens, and two cornbread. The brisket was on the dry side, but delicious and tender, and reheated especially well the following day. The ribs were perfectly smoked and tender, with good flavor throughout. The macaroni and cheese was made with real cheese, not a cheese sauce, and the pasta was not overcooked-- a very successful execution. The greens were collard greens that had been cooked in a broth, maybe with a little garlic, and reheated well the following day, too. And the price point was very good for this kind of food. The cornbread was on the dry side and wanted butter, and also came out of the fridge so it didn't have crunchy tips. It also tasted very strongly of banana, which wasn't a bad thing, but unexpected. All in all, it really was all good food. I'm sorry to hear so many others have had poor experiences, but we were comparing it to what we get from Famous Dave's and the price point and quality were up to spec.

Our second visit to this establishment, which is a merged business of Sea King Seafood and Pig Picker's. And the last.My 'pit beef' sandwich was totally tasteless. As were the BBQ beans. He said his crabcake was 'ok' but nothing special.

Ugh, was looking forward to an easy dinner, but that was not the case. Placed an order for pick up the day before but they lost the order. So we ordered again and they almost got it right after 15 minutes. They brought everything out but the crabs which took another 10 minutes. The rest is history, some cold, some warm food once we got back home. Need to step up the service here or they will be out of business like the Crab Shanty in no time.

Nothing is more confusing than a restaurant with two names. Sea King Seafood Markets used to be part of the Crab Shanty but moved across the street, dropping the Crab Shanty moniker and adding the Pig Picker's name in expanding to the BBQ market. So this review is only of Pig Picker's even though the business has Sea King in its name. The official business name is Sea King Seafood Markets and Pig Picker's Besides the store name, BBQ is a confusing cuisine. There are as many different types of BBQ as there are cooks in the world. No wonder, it was the first way man cooked food when he invented the campfire.Today, I ordered St. Louis ribs BBQ'ed Memphis style. St. Louis ribs are trimmed so only the straight ribs are left. This is the neatest and cleanest way to eat ribs. Personlly I like caveman style ribs...with all the connective tissue, meaty brisket, and all the chewable cartilage connected to the rib bone. The type where you grab one end of a rib, you gnaw on the other end...pull.....and the suddenly retracting chewy meat rebounds and BBQ sauce flies across your plate over to the table next to you. They did an excellent job of making the Memphis BBQ. Memphis style tends to cook the meat far past what I personally prefer, but that's the style and they do it well. The rub spices were very tasty....but didn't overpower the taste of the pork ribs. Far too often, BBQ places put so much sauce on their food that you can't taste the meat....you might as well eat hamburgers and hot dogs with that much sauce.Overall these ribs were a solid 4 stars, highly recommended for ribs. Now I need to eat St. Louis style ribs BBQ'ed Memphis style with a Tennessee rub, a Georgian mop, and Carolina dipping sauces in a Texan restaurant.

I asked about their crabs (which are inconsistently available). They said it would take 10 minutes - - too short to cook-to-order and too long if they are ready. I asked why 10 minutes and they stated they re-heated crabs that are already cooked - - enough said?? Needless to say, I didn't order them - you can take your chances but not for me. Plus their crab prices are high and their sizes are smaller .By the way - are they a BBQ place or a Seafood place. Are they a carry-out or a dine-in? It seems they're trying to be both - neither very effectively.

Surprisingly, my husband and I are here last year and the food was delicious. We ate here on12/22/13 and the foot was horrible! The beans were undercooked, the greens were tasteless and the ribs were just okay. The muffins were good but not as good as I remembered them previously. I would give this place two stars but the girl who took our order was impersonal and had an attitude. I reside in the Cockeysville/Lutherville-Timonium area so if service like this was rendered in that area, this place would be closing their doors by the end of this year.

This place has gone downhill so much lately. They have the worst crabs in the state of Maryland. My last 3 orders were sad. This place was not like this before.Spoke to the manager today, he was hard for the staff to find and a jerk to me on the phone. No making it up to a customer. There was 4 people with lost or screwed up orders on my last trip there.I wouldn't leave with my last order of crabs. They had to replace some because my finger broke the shells open because they are trash crabs or whitey'sBeware. Lousy service, lost orders and the worst crabs.Maryland deserves better than this. Too many other good options.Save your time and money. Find another place

Meh. We are still on the search for a good BBQ place, and Ellicott City just doesn't have it. We have gotten raw oysters (in season) at the Sea King side of the restaurant before and those was good, so we thought we'd come back and try the BBQ. It just wasn't good, plus one of our orders was entirely wrong. The buns don't hold up on the pulled pork sandwich, either. It had potential, but this won't do.
