Old South Smokehouse

Oh friends I'm sort of a bbq snob and not really a "burger" connoisseur but I took a chance on The Smokehouse Beast Burger which is a unique blend of meats with cheese and fried onions, o added crispy bacon. OMG it's literally the best burger I have ever had. I paired it with a half rack which was also amazing and sides of Mac n cheese, smokehouse beans, and piece of cornbread. For not being anywhere near Kansas or St. Louis, or Memphis or anywhere famous for bbq. This meal was off the charts good. I'm not joking when I say "best burger ever"

Food is always good. Big portions. Good prices. If you're looking for ambiance or white glove treatment this ain't it! It's about the food!

good food offered with many options allowing for maximum customization. we started with the nachos . they were tasty but for me the cheese was a bit heavy. we also enjoyed the burnt end sandwich and the brisket sandwich. our friend enjoyed the potato with plenty to take home for lunch. portions are large and service is good. not fine dining but good local establishment. restaurant was clean with front door parking. the menus could use an upgrade but overall a good choice.

The interior is simple with illustrations of meat cuts. The briskets and baby back ribs were very good. For sides the pig tail fries were made well and the smoked sauerkraut was delicious! The mustard based sauce was great! The service is unfortunately slow. It's a good place to eat if you are in the GWL area.

If you come to Perryville and never stop by for the Old South Smokehouse. You are missing out. We came here during our trip to GWL. It will now be our tradition along with other lodge goers. The prices are great compared totals he pizza and burgers you get at GWL. The bbq is quality. We came for rib night and it was 12$ for a full rack, side and cornbread!!!! Next time I'll get more to go!! My 6 and 9 year old girls devoured everything. The caramel cake was also inhaled in seconds!The wait staff was friendly and the hotel had a nice Christmas vibe. Skeleton at the front and all :)Easy 5 stars!

Tried this place for takeout while staying at great wolf lodge. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Place was a packed house on a Wednesday evening which is always a good sign. We just had a bbq platter with a little bit of everything. Everything was great. Meat was cooked well, great flavor, good sauces. Deserts also a big hit. Chicken tenders and fries for the kids also pretty good. Would definitely recommend this place if looking for some decent bbq.

Awesome barbecue joint that we went to lunch the other day. The food came out fast and hot. Corn fritters were nice, crispy and sweet. The beast burger was the perfect medium and very juicy. I put barbecue sauce on top to try it out, which was very bold and flavorful as well. Would love to try the regular barbecue next time as the platters are well portioned and smelled very mesquite. I had one of the seasonal cocktails, well two, as I liked it that much. The server was attentive and made some excellent recommendations.

Great local place with amazing food and staff! The moved to this location from a smaller place next door and it's a good thing, because they are always packed. Inside is nice and clean, open area seating with booths and a bar with fully stocked coolers or beverages and big screen TVs for all your sports viewing pleasure. The staff greets you as you walk in, very welcoming. The menu is smokehouse style, hence the name, and you must try the brisket.. melt in your mouth, so good! The chips are house made and crispy and delicious, I could eat a whole bag. Definitely a fantastic local place to eat when you're in the area. Popular with the locals as well as guests from the Great Wolf Lodge - Perryville down the road about 10 mins away.

Very friendly service staff here and they accommodated my guest's special request to bring home a six pack of one of our new favorite beers (see picture). I ordered hush puppy appetizer and for my meal brisket and baby back ribs. The hush puppies provide this dipping sauce which would best be described as maple syrup. After having lived in Texas I'm gonna be a tough critic and say the brisket tasted barely smoked at all, and the baby back ribs were so small they looked like ribs from a smaller animal. Hardly any sauce cooked on them but plenty on the side. I expected maybe one more slice of brisket than what was offered. BBQ beans were very tasty as was the cornbread. In the end, I'm gonna say I'm not a fan but maybe worthy one more try for the chicken or sausage.

Amazing gem of a barbeque spot on what seems like the outskirts of town. Sitting alone on a well traveled road I've wanted to try this place for a while. I finally got the opportunity and am frustrated with myself being took me so long. Parking is plentiful. When I entered I was immediately treated by the hostess and escorted to our seats. There's nothing fancy as it is true barbecue spot. Little frills, but you don't need frills when the food is so good. My children both got burgers and fries, my wife a BLT... I got the barbecue platter with potato salad, rack of ribs, brisket, pulled pork, burnt ends and cornbread. Everything was very good to excellent! My wife's BLT was the best I've ever eaten. Stacked with bacon it was probably enough for two people. My kids said they enjoyed their burgers despite the fact they only serve double patty burgers. They looked delicious. My barbecue platter was excellent. Ribs and brisket stood out particularly. The burnt ends and pulled pork were good. The potato salad was great. The drinks were good too. We left happy and will return again.
